Story
Otis is a sweet, loyal boy who is looking for a new forever home through no fault of his own. He was adopted last year and deeply loved, but sadly returned to us after his owner passed away. Otis thrives when he has space to stretch his legs and enjoy the outdoors. He would do best in a home with a fenced yard or with adopters who can give him plenty of outside time and daily activity. He bonds strongly with his people and is happiest when he can be part of their routine. Because Otis has a prey drive, he is not a good fit for a home with small dogs or cats. With the right environment and guidance, he does wonderfully and has so much love to give. Otis is ready to start a new chapter with someone who can offer stability, patience, and room to roam. If you’re looking for a devoted companion and have the space to meet his needs, Otis may be your perfect match.

Story
Hi there, I'm Susie Q! I love spending my days lounging around, enjoying the quiet moments, and soaking up all the love I can get. I'm known for my sweet nature and smart mind. I've mastered many tricks and always impress my friends here with my quick learning. I'm also very loyal; once I find my person, I stick by them through thick and thin. I'm just looking for someone who appreciates a calm, loving companion. Adopting me means gaining a faithful friend forever. Adoption Process If you are ready to meet the pet, please fill out an online adoption application by copying and pasting the following link into your internet browser: https://www.petstablished.com/adoption_form/10666/generic Once your application is submitted, we will contact the vet reference provided. If you do not yet have a vet, please provide three personal references – these could be family and friends who can attest to your pet parenting skills. A volunteer will schedule a phone interview with you. The interview and application help our fosters find their forever home by ensuring a good match.   The Louisa Humane Society does not have a brick and mortar facility, so all of our pets are in foster care. Once approved, the foster parent will reach out to arrange a visit. The foster family can tell you all about her likes, dislikes, and little quirks.  The application and visit do not oblige you to adopt, but if you’re ready to take the pet home as your furry forever friend, the adoption fee is $150. ##2635938##

Story
Hi there, I'm Lucky! Despite being deaf, I'm a cheerful, gentle soul with a playful streak. I've been told I'm quite the comedian, always up to some goofy antic that brings laughter to my friends here. I'm smart too, you know. I've learned to understand hand signals and can perform tricks that'll amaze you. I'm also independent, so I won't be under your feet all the time. But when you need a cuddle, I'm your guy. I'm mellow and sweet, just the right companion to brighten your day. So, why should you adopt me? Well, my goofy antics will keep you entertained, my gentleness will bring calm to your home, and my intelligence will keep you on your toes. Most of all, I promise to be your best friend, always there to offer a wagging tail and a cuddly snuggle. Let's make beautiful memories together! Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.   Dr. Pepper is two and a half years old but has an old-school hound vibe. When he came to us a year and a half ago he was very shy and took a long time to trust people. He has many people and dog friends now, and once he knows you and trusts you he is quite the snuggler. He waits patiently for that perfect person to come take him home. He is a very reasonable guy, will walk calmly on lead, and isn’t much of a crooner. Dr. Pepper loves to be stroked on his head and face-- of course he enjoys body rubs too. He plays with the toys in his room and kennel. Dr. Pepper regularly goes to daycare at Camp Merricks and enjoys running around with other dog friends. He LOVES to play with other dogs. And often doesn't want to return to the shelter. He will need a little time and patience to adjust to his new home, but this handsome boy is totally worth it! Fill out an application and come meet Dr. Pepper soon!Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.    April 29, 2026, 6:59 am

Story
Beethoven is a 4-year-old Basset mix with a gentle soul and a heart full of quiet devotion. This sweet, mellow boy is happiest in a calm, familiar environment where he can relax and be close to his people. He is fully housetrained, rarely barks, and has wonderful house manners, making him an easy and comforting companion. While he may be a bit shy at first, a few treats and a little patience will quickly win him over.Beethoven is a true homebody who prefers cozy nights on the couch or sunbathing on the deck over busy outings or social gatherings. He enjoys leisurely walks, soft stuffed toys, and the occasional zoomie in the yard, but his favorite activity is simply being near his people. He gets along with calm, respectful dogs but would also be perfectly happy as an only dog in a peaceful home. Because he can be fearful of new people and overly energetic dogs, he does best with slow introductions and a low-key lifestyle and would be best in a home with calm, older children. This handsome boy is incredibly polite and well-mannered, happily sitting and waiting for his meals or treats and even catching snacks mid-air with impressive skill. He is crate trained, has great recall in the yard, and thrives with positive reinforcement and a consistent routine. Beethoven will need a home with a secure fenced yard where he feels safe and comfortable. He does have skin allergies that are easily managed with a daily oral medication. If you’re looking for a loyal, affectionate companion who values quiet moments and deep bonds, Beethoven is ready to be your perfect match. Contact BROOD today to meet Beethoven! His adoption fee is $250.00.**Only BROOD-approved adopters can meet a dog (no exceptions). Our adoption application is on the BROOD website at https://brood-va.org/adoptionapp/. We adopt to residents of Virginia, Maryland, West Virginia, DC, Delaware, and southern Pennsylvania. Do not apply to adopt from BROOD if you live in another state. We require a virtual home visit and a veterinary reference. The age of BROOD dogs is an estimate, as very few come with exact age records. 04/17/2026
