Story
Say hi to Jolly! This sweet hound has been in foster and this is what his foster dad says about him: "He's definitely a gentle soul and is great around other dogs. He's a bit shy at first but warms up pretty quickly. Very playful and energetic but also can be very calm. He's a fast learner and does well with routine. (I've taught him how to stay out of the kitchen when I'm cooking.) He's been playing with toys but he and my resident dog Charlie have yet to engage in play. He loves being outside, I think a yard is essential. He does like his crate but prefers sleeping on the couch." This guy has so much love to give but has been waiting TOO long for a forever home. He is housetrained, crate trained, and 100% American Fox Hound according to his DNA test. Give this perfect hound a chance!

Story
Hi there, I'm Lucky! Despite being deaf, I'm a cheerful, gentle soul with a playful streak. I've been told I'm quite the comedian, always up to some goofy antic that brings laughter to my friends here. I'm smart too, you know. I've learned to understand hand signals and can perform tricks that'll amaze you. I'm also independent, so I won't be under your feet all the time. But when you need a cuddle, I'm your guy. I'm mellow and sweet, just the right companion to brighten your day. So, why should you adopt me? Well, my goofy antics will keep you entertained, my gentleness will bring calm to your home, and my intelligence will keep you on your toes. Most of all, I promise to be your best friend, always there to offer a wagging tail and a cuddly snuggle. Let's make beautiful memories together! This pet is eligible for the PETS FOR PATRIOTS adoption program. Adoption Process If you are ready to meet the pet, please fill out an online adoption application by copying and pasting the following link into your internet browser: https://www.petstablished.com/adoption_form/10666/generic Once your application is submitted, we will contact the vet reference provided. If you do not yet have a vet, please provide three personal references – these could be family and friends who can attest to your pet parenting skills. A volunteer will schedule a phone interview with you. The interview and application help our fosters find their forever home by ensuring a good match.   The Louisa Humane Society does not have a brick and mortar facility, so all of our pets are in foster care. Once approved, the foster parent will reach out to arrange a visit. The foster family can tell you all about her likes, dislikes, and little quirks.  The application and visit do not oblige you to adopt, but if you’re ready to take the pet home as your furry forever friend, his adoption fee is being sponsored by one of our generous volunteers. ##1673771##

Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.   Dr. Pepper is two and a half years old but has an old-school hound vibe. When he came to us a year and a half ago he was very shy and took a long time to trust people. He has many people and dog friends now, and once he knows you and trusts you he is quite the snuggler. He waits patiently for that perfect person to come take him home. He is a very reasonable guy, will walk calmly on lead, and isn’t much of a crooner. Dr. Pepper loves to be stroked on his head and face-- of course he enjoys body rubs too. He plays with the toys in his room and kennel. Dr. Pepper regularly goes to daycare at Camp Merricks and enjoys running around with other dog friends. He LOVES to play with other dogs. And often doesn't want to return to the shelter. He will need a little time and patience to adjust to his new home, but this handsome boy is totally worth it! Fill out an application and come meet Dr. Pepper soon!Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.    November 7, 2025, 7:04 am

Story
Molly is an 8-year-old classic Basset Hound with a big personality and more energy than you’d expect from a senior gal! Independent and confident, she loves spending time outdoors with her nose to the ground, exploring every scent the world has to offer. Walks are one of her favorite activities, and she enjoys every adventure with her family by her side.Molly is house-trained, uses a doggie door, and prefers to sleep in her crate overnight. She loves being around people and soaks up every bit of affection she can get—pets, belly rubs, and kisses are always welcome! She gets along well with other dogs as long as they respect her space, food, and toys—and understand that she’s the boss. Her previous owner also reported that she does well with cats. While Molly adores people, she’d do best in a home without young children under 10, as she appreciates her space and quiet time. She has learned to use her voice since settling in and will bark to alert her family about visitors or passing dogs, wants food or snacks, ready to get in bed, excitement over walks, or just needs some love. She does have mild separation anxiety and whines for a bit when her family leaves. Combined with her barking, she may be disturbing to close neighbors like in a townhouse, apartment, or condo setting.Molly has mild skin allergies that are easily managed with daily medication to keep her looking and feeling her best. Full of sass, love, and classic Basset charm, Molly is ready to find her forever home. Contact BROOD today to meet Molly! Her adoption fee is $200.00.**Only BROOD-approved adopters can meet a dog (no exceptions). Our adoption application is on the BROOD website at https://brood-va.org/adoptionapp/. We adopt to residents of Virginia, Maryland, West Virginia, DC, Delaware, and southern Pennsylvania. Do not apply to adopt from BROOD if you live in another state.
