Story
Otis is a sweet, loyal boy who is looking for a new forever home through no fault of his own. He was adopted last year and deeply loved, but sadly returned to us after his owner passed away. Otis thrives when he has space to stretch his legs and enjoy the outdoors. He would do best in a home with a fenced yard or with adopters who can give him plenty of outside time and daily activity. He bonds strongly with his people and is happiest when he can be part of their routine. Because Otis has a prey drive, he is not a good fit for a home with small dogs or cats. With the right environment and guidance, he does wonderfully and has so much love to give. Otis is ready to start a new chapter with someone who can offer stability, patience, and room to roam. If you’re looking for a devoted companion and have the space to meet his needs, Otis may be your perfect match.

Story
Hi there, I'm Susie Q! I love spending my days lounging around, enjoying the quiet moments, and soaking up all the love I can get. I'm known for my sweet nature and smart mind. I've mastered many tricks and always impress my friends here with my quick learning. I'm also very loyal; once I find my person, I stick by them through thick and thin. I'm just looking for someone who appreciates a calm, loving companion. Adopting me means gaining a faithful friend forever. Adoption Process If you are ready to meet the pet, please fill out an online adoption application by copying and pasting the following link into your internet browser: https://www.petstablished.com/adoption_form/10666/generic Once your application is submitted, we will contact the vet reference provided. If you do not yet have a vet, please provide three personal references – these could be family and friends who can attest to your pet parenting skills. A volunteer will schedule a phone interview with you. The interview and application help our fosters find their forever home by ensuring a good match.   The Louisa Humane Society does not have a brick and mortar facility, so all of our pets are in foster care. Once approved, the foster parent will reach out to arrange a visit. The foster family can tell you all about her likes, dislikes, and little quirks.  The application and visit do not oblige you to adopt, but if you’re ready to take the pet home as your furry forever friend, the adoption fee is $150. ##2635938##

Story
Hi there, I'm Lucky! Despite being deaf, I'm a cheerful, gentle soul with a playful streak. I've been told I'm quite the comedian, always up to some goofy antic that brings laughter to my friends here. I'm smart too, you know. I've learned to understand hand signals and can perform tricks that'll amaze you. I'm also independent, so I won't be under your feet all the time. But when you need a cuddle, I'm your guy. I'm mellow and sweet, just the right companion to brighten your day. So, why should you adopt me? Well, my goofy antics will keep you entertained, my gentleness will bring calm to your home, and my intelligence will keep you on your toes. Most of all, I promise to be your best friend, always there to offer a wagging tail and a cuddly snuggle. Let's make beautiful memories together! Story
Diane, who also goes by Lulu in her foster home, is a 2-year-old classic Basset with a soft coat, a gentle heart, and a deep love for her people. This sweet girl is quiet and calm indoors, often described as a “love bug” who will happily place her paws in your lap to ask for pets and attention. She’s housetrained, uses a doggie door, and settles nicely into the home, even sleeping peacefully on her own bed at night. Diane truly thrives on companionship and forms strong bonds with her humans.Diane enjoys her daily walks and has made great progress with training, especially when it comes to staying focused on her person. She’s smart, food-motivated, and responds well to guidance and positive reinforcement. While she loves people, she does best as the only dog in the home, as other dogs can make her feel stressed. With continued training and a patient handler, she’s learning how to calmly pass other dogs when given space and direction.Diane would do best in a quieter home where she won’t encounter constant dog traffic and where her adopter is committed to continuing her training. She can be a bit of a food opportunist, so keeping counters clear and working on boundaries will be important. Because she may guard high-value treats, she’s best suited for a home with older, dog-savvy children, age 10 or older. With the right environment and guidance, Diane will reward her family with loyalty, affection, and plenty of sweet, snuggly moments. Contact BROOD today to meet Diane! Her adoption fee is $300.00.**Only BROOD-approved adopters can meet a dog (no exceptions). Our adoption application is on the BROOD website at https://brood-va.org/adoptionapp/. We adopt to residents of Virginia, Maryland, West Virginia, DC, Delaware, and southern Pennsylvania. Do not apply to adopt from BROOD if you live in another state. We require a virtual home visit and a veterinary reference. The age of BROOD dogs is an estimate, as very few come with exact age records. 04/26/2026
