Story
Otis is a sweet, loyal boy who is looking for a new forever home through no fault of his own. He was adopted last year and deeply loved, but sadly returned to us after his owner passed away. Otis thrives when he has space to stretch his legs and enjoy the outdoors. He would do best in a home with a fenced yard or with adopters who can give him plenty of outside time and daily activity. He bonds strongly with his people and is happiest when he can be part of their routine. Because Otis has a prey drive, he is not a good fit for a home with small dogs or cats. With the right environment and guidance, he does wonderfully and has so much love to give. Otis is ready to start a new chapter with someone who can offer stability, patience, and room to roam. If you’re looking for a devoted companion and have the space to meet his needs, Otis may be your perfect match.

Story
Hi there, I'm Susie Q! I love spending my days lounging around, enjoying the quiet moments, and soaking up all the love I can get. I'm known for my sweet nature and smart mind. I've mastered many tricks and always impress my friends here with my quick learning. I'm also very loyal; once I find my person, I stick by them through thick and thin. I'm just looking for someone who appreciates a calm, loving companion. Adopting me means gaining a faithful friend forever. Adoption Process If you are ready to meet the pet, please fill out an online adoption application by copying and pasting the following link into your internet browser: https://www.petstablished.com/adoption_form/10666/generic Once your application is submitted, we will contact the vet reference provided. If you do not yet have a vet, please provide three personal references – these could be family and friends who can attest to your pet parenting skills. A volunteer will schedule a phone interview with you. The interview and application help our fosters find their forever home by ensuring a good match.   The Louisa Humane Society does not have a brick and mortar facility, so all of our pets are in foster care. Once approved, the foster parent will reach out to arrange a visit. The foster family can tell you all about her likes, dislikes, and little quirks.  The application and visit do not oblige you to adopt, but if you’re ready to take the pet home as your furry forever friend, the adoption fee is $150. ##2635938##

Story
Hi there, I'm Lucky! Despite being deaf, I'm a cheerful, gentle soul with a playful streak. I've been told I'm quite the comedian, always up to some goofy antic that brings laughter to my friends here. I'm smart too, you know. I've learned to understand hand signals and can perform tricks that'll amaze you. I'm also independent, so I won't be under your feet all the time. But when you need a cuddle, I'm your guy. I'm mellow and sweet, just the right companion to brighten your day. So, why should you adopt me? Well, my goofy antics will keep you entertained, my gentleness will bring calm to your home, and my intelligence will keep you on your toes. Most of all, I promise to be your best friend, always there to offer a wagging tail and a cuddly snuggle. Let's make beautiful memories together! Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.   Dr. Pepper is two and a half years old but has an old-school hound vibe. When he came to us a year and a half ago he was very shy and took a long time to trust people. He has many people and dog friends now, and once he knows you and trusts you he is quite the snuggler. He waits patiently for that perfect person to come take him home. He is a very reasonable guy, will walk calmly on lead, and isn’t much of a crooner. Dr. Pepper loves to be stroked on his head and face-- of course he enjoys body rubs too. He plays with the toys in his room and kennel. Dr. Pepper regularly goes to daycare at Camp Merricks and enjoys running around with other dog friends. He LOVES to play with other dogs. And often doesn't want to return to the shelter. He will need a little time and patience to adjust to his new home, but this handsome boy is totally worth it! Fill out an application and come meet Dr. Pepper soon!Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.    May 31, 2026, 8:09 am

Story
Meet Millie 🤍 Millie came to us after our field team found her sick and chained outside — but if you met her today, you'd never guess how hard her start was. She is pure sweetness, the kind of dog who just wants to be close to you and soak up every bit of love she can get. And honestly? She's earned it. She's currently working through heartworm treatment, taking things slow and resting up — but she's handling it like a champ. In the meantime, she's been discovering what it feels like to be truly cared for: cool air, soft beds, a full belly, and a family who adores her. Safe to say she's settling in just fine. When she's ready, Millie will be looking for a home where she can keep right on being loved. She does great with kids and other dogs, and we think she'll thrive anywhere she's given the chance to just be a dog — cherished, comfortable, and finally at peace. She didn't have someone in her corner before. Now she does — and we're not stopping until she has a forever home to match. We urge you to apply to adopt Millie if a sweet hound sounds like the perfect addition to your family🐾

Story
Meet Tank 💛 This sweet, loving boy is a 2-year-old, 50 lb hound who is about as easygoing and affectionate as they come. Tank loves his people — he’s cuddly, gentle, and happiest when he’s close to his family. While Tank is generally an easy dog, he is very much a hound at heart. He follows his nose wherever it leads and is always on the lookout for his next snack. Tank loves other dogs and enjoys wrestling and romping with his canine friends. He has lived successfully with a confident cat and small children. He also enjoys his toys — especially a good rope toy, which he’ll happily toss around all by himself. He really enjoys the outdoors, whether he’s sunbathing or sniffing around the yard. But despite his love for being outside, Tank is absolutely a house dog at heart. At the end of the day, nothing makes him happier than curling up on the couch and snoozing with his people. Tank has also shown to be fully house trained and trustworthy when left home alone. Tank is also quite the character. He does occasionally bay, but more often he communicates through a series of grunts, sighs, and some truly hilarious facial expressions — think side-eyes, eye rolls, and full-on pouting. If you’re looking for a dog with personality, affection, and just the right amount of hound charm, Tank is your guy. 💛🐾
