Story
There's no dog who loves tumbling, bounding fun more than Houndour! Houndour is an energetic guy, who is curious about the world around him. As a true hound, he loves to explore the world through his nose, but as soon as you call, he'll come running back to seek affection. He is the best play-group buddy, and enjoys playing with dogs of all sizes: big and small. We think he will thrive in a home with other canine friends. We also think Houndour would be the perfect dog for those who travel on the road frequently. He has been to plenty of our adoption events, so he's an expert at meeting new human friends, though we can't promise he won't "love-tackle" you. Love-tackle (v.): a CASPCA term used to describe the good-est of boys, characterized by face-licks, happy barks, and trying to get as close as he can to you! After some time to play, Houndour will happily settle down for an afternoon snooze. Treats are the key to Houndour's heart, and will do great learning in a patient home. Come meet this special guy at the Charlottesville-Albemarle SPCA today! We are open Tuesday-Friday 12-6PM and Saturday-Sunday 12-5PM for walk-ins, no appointment required. You can also call us at (434)-973-5959 to learn more about him!

Story
Meet the handsome Millie, born in Texas on May 27, 2023, when her momma delivered 9 beautiful puppies. While her momma is believed to be a purebred Harrier, the identity of the daddy remains a mystery. Millie found her way to our rescue due to challenges in securing her a new home. Like many in Texas, Millie faced the risk of abandonment, poverty, starvation, sickness, or euthanasia without suitable homes. Her foster, struggling to ensure their safety, could no longer keep Millie or her siblings, leading to their transfer to our rescue in search of their forever homes. Millie is up-to-date on vaccines, microchipped, dewormed, and comes with a health certificate. This playful, smart, and laid-back pup is the perfect overall family companion, expected to reach about 50-60 pounds. If Millie has captured your heart, please visit our website: https://serendipityanimalrescue.org for more information.

Story
TF? Well, meet Wayne. Wayne came to us when his shelter kill date was set and no one else offered to take him. We also got his friend, Willie and three other hounds from the same shelter at the same time. If you are wondering why TF he had TF stamped on his hips, he was hunting dog. Running deer west of the Blue Ridge is not legal so we don't see many deer dogs in our area. This is also a common way to identify hounds used for hunting fox and coyotes...the letters being the owners initials. Unlike the freeze brands we sometimes see, this is just paint and didn't hurt him. It's long since washed off in the months Wayne has been waiting for an adopter. Wayne is a middle aged hound who is short and stout and has gained a lof of weight with us! He kinda looks like a beagle and barks like one too. Wayne is all kindness and happiness with a love of fine food...or any food. He may be a bit hard of hearing as the scars on his ears hint to chronic, intreated ear infections. But hey, it just makes him a better sleeper. Wayne has learned all kinds of good things in his foster home! He LOVES baby pools, naps and has good manners and we don't know why TF no one wants sweet Wayne! Wayne's adoption fee is reduced to $100. Augusta Dog Adoptions is a 501c3, foster- based rescue. We take applications online and schedule adoptions in Waynesboro, VA. A $175.00 adoption fee ($300 for puppies under 6 months old) helps us take care of all the dogs we rescue. All dogs are spayed/neutered, tested for heartworm and tick borne diseases (if old enough), microchipped, and vaccinated for rabies (if old enough), distemper/parvo and bordetella. They are also treated for internal and external parasites. Many dogs also receive extensive medical care such as dental work and major surgeries. Hey y'all, my name's Brantley. I'm just a good ol'boy looking for my forever home. I came to Augusta Dog Adoptions from a rural shelter with not enough adopters! Thank goodness they were able to get me out of there because my kill date had been set! My foster mom says I'm an easy keeper and that I do better than my half brothers. I don't know what she means. They seem like alright boys to me, so that must mean that I'm above average! I do like to play with them, especially the spunky beagle. I like all company, big dogs, little dogs, but I do not like cats. I've been told I'm very good mannered, I give little kisses on the hand or arm, I keep my crate clean and when given full house privileges I've been a very good guest. I'd love to have some friends to play with and a comfy spot to nap. My foster mom thinks I'd be gentle around young kids but I'm still a little scared of loud noises. I can't say for sure but I think I'm about 5-7 years old and weight about 55 pounds. I do know that I've been through a lot, and with your help, I'll find a family who will make the rest of my life the best of my life! Story
Meet Rocky and Emma!!!!! They are BROOD's latest bonded pair!! They are each 6-year-old Basset mixes, most likely Bassadors with the long and low body of a Basset with the face of a Labrador. They came to BROOD after their owner's job changed and were no longer able to give them the attention they needed. Rocky and Emma have been be each other's side their whole life, are highly bonded, and need to be adopted to the same home together. They are house-trained and crate-trained. They must be crated at night to sleep at in a room separate from their family. They also use a doggie door and would be happiest in a home with a fenced yard. Though they love spending their time in the yard hunting down wild critters, they must be walked 2-3 times per day for exercise in addition to unlimited yard exercise. They are both extremely friendly and love meeting new friends and do great with children of all ages and sizes. They get along with all the dogs they meet, barking occasionally to get their attention, and tend to be very submissive when around others, especially large very energetic dogs. Their original owner did have cats and both Rocky and Emma were very friendly with them. Rocky and Emma are low-key and don't require much more than each other to be happy! They enjoy being near their family for cuddles but are also content to find a cozy place to nap the day away! Please contact BROOD today!!! The total adoption fee for both Rocky and Emma as a pair is $375.00.**Only BROOD-approved adopters can meet a dog (no exceptions). Our adoption application is on the BROOD website at https://brood-va.org/adoptionapp/. We adopt to residents of Virginia, Maryland, West Virginia, DC, Delaware, and southern Pennsylvania. Do not apply to adopt from BROOD if you live in another state. We require a virtual home visit and a veterinary reference. The age of many BROOD dogs is unknown, as very few come with official records. The estimate on the dog's age is usually the initial estimate given by the receiving shelter, which may be different from that given at the time of the initial checkup. Different veterinarians may also give different ages, and those different opinions are sometimes reflected on the record. ***BROOD's adoption fees are determined based on the age of the dog. 02/19/2024

Story
I am an honorary Basset named Fannie Mae. The best guess is that I am mostly, if not all, Foxhound. My foster mom is really curious so she sent off some swabs for a DNA test. I can't wait to see the results!I am a sweet, calm, laid-back lady of about 9 years. I came to BROOD after I was found to be living in some pretty bad conditions with an owner who wasn't taking care of me properly. I am so grateful to have a second chance now at a happy life and can't wait to meet my forever family.I am house-trained, crate-trained, and can use a doggie dog. I love going on long walks around the neighborhood to meet new friends. I am very quiet. In fact, my foster mom said it was a few weeks before I barked at all and then it was because I saw foxes outside through the window. I love people and children and would be best in a home with kids older than 10 as I am a pretty sound sleeper and don't like to be startled awake by sudden noise or movement. I would do well as an only dog as well as an apartment dweller, as long as I got in lots of walk time. ! I'd love to have a home with a fenced-in yard for me to run and play in.I am so easy to love and care for, happy all the time and ready to live my best life! Please contact BROOD today!!! My adoption fee is $150.00.**Only BROOD-approved adopters can meet a dog (no exceptions). Our adoption application is on the BROOD website at https://brood-va.org/adoptionapp/.
