Sometimes all a dog needs is a second chance and someone willing to see beyond where they started. When Dutton first arrived at Caroline County Humane Society, finding a home wasn't our immediate priority. This handsome German Shepherd was suffering from severe skin issues and other medical concerns caused by his previous living conditions. Our focus was simply helping him heal and become comfortable again. After weeks of dedicated care, Dutton has made incredible progress, and as he's started feeling better, his true personality has come to life. Dutton is a smart, affectionate boy with just the right amount of playful energy. He absolutely loves treats and is highly food motivated, making him eager to learn and a great candidate for continued training. He already knows basic commands like sit and down, and he enjoys showing off his skills when snacks are involved. When it's time to play, Dutton enjoys rope toys, stretching his legs with a good run around the yard, and showing off a little bit of spunk. It has been wonderful watching his confidence grow as he continues to recover, and every day he seems more ready to embrace life. Dutton would do best with an adopter who is familiar with German Shepherds and can provide regular exercise, training, and enrichment to keep him mentally and physically stimulated. A yard where he can run and play would be a great fit for his energy level. As he continues healing, he'll need someone committed to continuing the care that's helped him come so far. Dutton's behavior around children, cats, and other dogs is currently unknown. If you have another dog in your home, we require a meet and greet at the shelter to help determine if they may be a good match. Dutton has already overcome so much, and while his journey isn't quite finished, he is more than ready to begin the next chapter of his life with a family who will help him continue to thrive.
