Please contact the foster directly at 856-275-6905 (call or text) or via email at Fureverpawsdogrescue@gmail.com&#226&#128&#139 Fur Ever Paws Dog Rescue is a small no kill rescue operating in the Delaware/Maryland area. We are a 501(c)(3) non-profit that rescues and places homeless, neglected or abused dogs from high-kill shelters in the south into loving, responsible committed and permanent homes. We feel our comprehensive adoption process which includes not only taking the time to match the dog to the prospective new owner but helping to educate that owner in responsible dog care, allows us to find the best homes for our little buddies and the best companions for you! Each week we use USDA certified transports to bring dogs from high-kill shelters in the south to our fosters where they all receive the appropriate medical care and are placed in nurturing loving homes while they await placement in their forever homes. Interested in one of our dogs? Great! Now that you've seen them here, you'll need to go to our website where you'll find our list of adoptable dogs (updated every week). Then, it's just a simple process of finding a dog you're interested in and filling out an application on our site. Once we receive your application, whoever is fostering that particular dog will contact you and do a short over the phone interview to complete your application process. If everything works out, they will set an appointment with you so come out and "visit" with the dog you're interested in (we want to make sure that not only are you a good fit for the dog but that the dog will fit with you). If everything works out, you'll be able to take rover (or spot, or jax) home with you that very day. A couple of things you should know: We can't hold dogs over the phone or via email. Adoption fees vary based on breed. All of our dogs have been vet checked and dewormed (if possible due to age, additional treatment may be needed). We provide a spay or neuter voucher to all of our adopters. &#226&#128&#139 January 27, 2026, 1:42 pm

Story
ABOUT TONKA Calling GSD lovers, meet Tonka! This sweet, handsome boy is a 6-year-old German Shepherd with the biggest heart. Tonka came to HAP when his owners were no longer able to care for him. Understandably, after living in a home, Tonka is feeling confused and scared. Despite his worries, he doesn’t have a mean bone in his body! The shelter can be fast-paced and loud, which can be overwhelming at times. When Tonka feels anxious, he’s quick to lean on his friends for reassurance and looks to you for guidance and comfort. In true GSD fashion, he is incredibly loyal and loving to those who care for him. He loves butt scratches, ear rubs, and the occasional boop on the nose. However, he does not appear to have separation anxiety, as he is content to be left alone in our offices, as long as he has a comfy bed, of course! While Tonka has behaved beautifully with us, he is visibly sad to be here, which has made it difficult to fully see just how amazing he can be. He has not shown much interest in toys, his ears may perk up at the sound of a squeaker, but he is so overwhelmed by his environment that he does not engage in play. On walks, he is often looking around as if he wants to go home. We know this boy has so much love to give, he just needs to leave the shelter and return to a calmer, more peaceful environment. If you are interested in adopting this dog, please submit an adoption questionnaire! Our adoption process is on a first-come, best-match basis and we are not able to hold animals. If you are interested in this specific dog but it ends up not being the best fit upon meeting, our adoption counselors will work with you to help find a match! All household members, including children and other dogs, must come along for the meeting to make sure it's a good fit. If a match is made, we encourage same-day adoptions! Our adoption fees include the animals' spay/neuter, microchip, age-appropriate vaccinations and preventatives, fecal testing, heartworm testing, and a small bag of food to get you started.
