Story
I am a super sweet and handsome young man who was sadly transferred here from another facility because I was out of time and on the urgent list. Thankfully, I was given another chance here. On walks and sniffaris - I’m all about business - sniffing, exploring, and taking in the world around me. I don’t pull much on a leash, and I can keep up a great pace. I am super smart and young with a lot of training potential! If you’re looking for a sturdy, quirky explorer with shepherd smarts, short-leg charm, and so much love to give - I might be your guy! Weighs around 57 lbs - Loves water! From a dog walking volunteer: `Meet Bendy — The Low-Rider Shepherd Remix You Didn’t Know You Needed Bendy is a 2-year-old, short-legged, brindle German Shepherd mix… and yes, that is quite a combo. Imagine a German Shepherd that decided to stay compact. A shepherd in a travel size. A low-rider with serious presence. On leash, Bendy didn’t pull much—which was impressive considering how many smells needed immediate investigation. He wasn’t particularly interested in me or my treats either. His focus? Walk. Sniff. Explore. Log the data. His mission seemed clear: “If I move enough now, maybe I’ll be tired enough to nap peacefully once I’m back in that kennel.”He may look a little chunky (we’ll call it “extra insulation”), but don’t let that fool you—Bendy happily kept up a fast pace and clearly enjoys getting out and moving. The boy can walk.In his kennel, he can be reactive when other dogs pass by—but let’s be fair. Being cooped up with constant noise, smells, movement, and visual chaos would test anyone’s patience. That environment brings out intensity in a lot of dogs. Outside? He was focused on the world, not the drama.Bendy is quirky, sturdy, and full of character. A shepherd brain in a low-riding body is something you don’t see every day—and honestly, it works. If you’re ready for a compact explorer with shepherd energy and short-leg charm, contact the shelter directly with any questions—and go meet Bendy in person.`

Story
I am having the HARDEST time rehoming my dog, Piper. She was originally my dad’s dog, and when he passed I took over her care. Since doing so I’ve not been able to keep up with costs/energy it takes to care for a dog. I’ve called every place in St. John’s, clay, and duval that takes dogs. I’ve even called to surrender her completely, and nobody will get back to me. I NEED help, Piper still has a lot of life left to live, and currently shes alone all day in a house just sitting. She’s a great dog. Here is everything to know about Piper: -12 y/0 black German shepherd/pit bull mix -fixed and microchipped -last vet appt May 2025, no complications or health concerns. Just arthritis. Started flea medication and finished the cycle. -somewhat house broken. My dad never trained her so she is used to going inside the house. She WILL go outside if given the opportunity though -can follow simple commands such as “sit” and “stay.” Does respond to her name, and stays in the yard

Story
Sky is 1 year and 5 months old. I adopted her at 8 weeks from a shelter where she was born in a litter of 9. She is sweet and high energy when it’s play time, but has a mixed record with small dogs. Large bread dogs, no issues. She is house broken, create trained, a dog park veteran and driven by belly rubs and treats. I’m moving and unfortunately my new schedule will not allow me to provide the one-on-one attention her breed requires and she deserves. She is smart, needs challenges and plenty of outside time. She takes direction and training very well, but without enough outdoor time, additional training can be tough. She is good with kids and Sky has taken my youngest as her personal protection mission. I pray that I’m able to re-home her into a loving home that has the time required for her to thrive.
