Story
We got Rex when he was a few months old. He is currently 4 years old. He is house and crate trained. He is a purebred, no papers. We have never experienced issues with aggression toward us or any family or friends. He is incredibly sweet. He can be a little vocal and he likes to dig. Unfortunately about a month ago he got out of the backyard following a storm. The kids did not know the fence was open when they let him out of his crate. During his time out, he got into the neighbors cat food. When she attempted to take the food, he bit her hand. To the best of my knowledge she experienced only a minor injury. Given the circumstances, the local police did not deem him viscous. We have attempted to relinquish him to multiple local shelters and even contacted a German shepherd sanctuary in KC, but they are all full. We were told, regardless of how severe the injury was, we should contact our vet about having him put down because it is unlikely anyone will adopt him.

It’s so hard to believe that our beautiful Nikita is still waiting for a family to love her for over 170 days now! Nikita is young, gentle, easy to walk on a leash, and absolutely precious! She can be picky about dog friends — Meet & greets are required. Please make plans to meet Nikita soon. She doesn’t want to spend another day all alone.

Story
Oakley is a young German Shepherd mix. He and his sister Daphne came to the shelter after their mom had jumped the fence and come back pregnant; he and his sister were struggling to find a home and we are very glad that they came to us since their condition was not fantastic when they first arrived. They were infested with fleas and fur mites that had them missing hair, skinny, anemic, and itchy. Their first night here we bathed and loved on them, and they quickly grew their beautiful coats back. Oakley and Daphne got to attend our adoption event at the FFAA thrift store at the beginning of June. At this event, they proved themselves to be friendly and social dogs who can cope well with overwhelming environments. They had a ton of fun running around with the other puppies their age, walking on a leash around the parking lot, and making lots of human friends. When they weren't running and playing, they did a great job of relaxing in their puppy pen and taking naps or chewing on their bones. Where Daphne is super social and immediately goes for the hug with strangers and friends alike, Oakley can be a little more withdrawn. However, once you've won him over, he's all love. Oakley has fantastic food drive and has great instinct to follow food lures around. He's going to be super easy to train due to luring around so easily and closely; he also picks up on new concepts rapidly and retains them as well. His focus is super impressive for a puppy his age. Due to getting sick with coccidia, he hasn't been able to practice his leash skills until recently, but he's so smart that he will catch up easily. He's recently been enjoying getting to play outside of his kennel and is a big fan of the kiddie pool.

Daphne is a young German Shepherd mix. She and her brother Oakley came to the shelter after their mom had jumped the fence and come back pregnant; she and her brother were struggling to find a home, and we are very glad that they came to us since their condition was not fantastic when they first arrived. They had a ton of fun running around with the other puppies their age, walking on a leash around the parking lot, and making lots of human friends. When they weren't running and playing, they did a great job of relaxing in their puppy pen and taking naps or chewing on their bones. Where Oakley has a more typical GSD personality and can be a little standoffish with strangers, Daphne is super social and immediately goes for the hug with strangers and friends alike. Due to being in quarantine for the fur mites and then immediately after that, coccidia, Daphne is only just now getting to go outside and start working on her leash skills. However, she's got great food drive and instinctively follows a food lure. This makes her super easy to train, and I am certain that any ground that she has lost, she can quickly make up. She's loving her newfound freedom and has just discovered that she LOVES water. She plays well with her brother still, and is overall just a pleasant puppy to be around.
