Story
Maggie is a 2 - 3 yr old female German Shepherd mix. She has a medium energy level, so she should fit well into most homes provided she receives a moderate amount of daily exercise and play. She is loose and wiggly when greeting, and comes when called for snuggles and kisses. Maggie walks well on a leash with no pulling. She is food motivated, and knows the commands sit and down. She mixes well with other dogs in a kennel, but is intensely interested in cats in the shelter environment. Dogs are generally tested with dogs of their own size; and dog meets with the resident dogs are always encouraged. Our cat test should be used as a general-purpose screening only to rule out overt aggression; we always recommend caution when introducing dogs to cats in the home. Recommendation on suitability of placement with children by their ages is based on behavioral observations including energy level and response to body handling. We never recommend leaving young children unsupervised with dogs, and we cannot guarantee the behavior of dogs with children, other pets, or cats. Behavior evaluations should be considered as a snapshot of the behavior of the dog at this point in time; JHS believes all dog families need to be prepared to invest time and energy into training as well as provide common sense management of their new dog. We always encourage family to do some research on the breeds or mixes of breeds prior to adoption as many can have some unique characteristics that may or may not fit into their families. Always remember that the majority of dogs at our shelter have been exposed to or may have kennel cough. Kennel cough is contagious to other dogs, please talk to your vet if you have any questions about kennel cough prior to adoption. Please ask your adoption counselor at time of adoption if you have any unanswered questions regarding illnesses and treatments of the pet that you are adopting. For more information about this dog or any others at our Shelter, please visit www.joplinhumane.org. We are the Joplin Humane Society in Joplin, Missouri. 417-623-3642.

Story
Thanos is a 2 - 3 yr old male Leonberger mix. He has a high energy level, so he would benefit from an active home with a fenced yard and plenty of space for daily exercise and play. He is loose and wiggly when greeting, and comes when called for snuggles. He also loves to hop up into your lap for hugs and kisses. Thanos does pull on a leash, but with basic obedience training, he should be walking like a champ in no time! He is food motivated; and knows the commands sit, shake, and down. He mixes well with other dogs in a kennel, but is afraid of cats in the shelter environment. Dogs are generally tested with dogs of their own size; and dog meets with the resident dogs are always encouraged. Story
We got Samson as a puppy from a sweet couple who had two purebred German Shepards that happened to have puppies. He has been a wonderful dog and we have enjoyed having him in our family for 5 years. He is very calm and likes to lay around. He loves peanut butter and people. He hates cats and being alone. He is well mannered and well trained, but could use more love and attention. He has never been free to roam the entire house, but he has been house trained to the laundry room and crate trained. He has been trained to stay in the boundaries of an under ground fence. He is not a barker unless he is home and there are cats or foxes around.

Story
Beautiful 55 Lb Beth is a German Shepherd and Beauceron mix. She was born sometime in September,2022. Beth and her siblings were dumped on a dirt road and her kind foster took them in. She has spent most of his life outside on a farm, but now her new foster is teaching her to sleep in the house in a crate and she is also learning the doggy door. When Beth meets someone new, it takes her just a New York minute to warm up. Treats help with that, and she is definitely treat motivated. Beth does know sit and she does like to play ball and she also enjoys playing with her brother. Beth likes to run and would make a good jogging partner. Beth is fully vaccinated, dewormed, flea and tick treated, micro-chipped and spayed. $150 rescue adoption fee applies.
