Story
GSD/Husky/Lab/Catahoula mixFour year old Dexter W. is a mixture of Labrador, GSD, Husky and Catahoula. His former owner’s parents have recently taken him in and he is just too much dog for them. They describe him as “a fun, smart and energetic companion. He loves to be near us and is a loyal best friend who loves to play.”  They believe he would be best with a family with older children or a family of young adults because of his energy level.  He has never been around cats. Please include your phone number if you would like to hear more about Dexter W. November 2, 2024, 2:03 pm

Story
I was rescued roaming around downtown, but I would love an outdoorsy family to go on hikes and adventures with! I'm a big girl with a big heart. I'm very strong and love getting attention. While I love people, I would probably do best in a home without small children. Little humans are fun, but they're easy to knock over on accident. If you're looking for someone to have a big time with, send in your application asap! I'm ready to ride.   *Due to state laws regarding out of state adoptions, we cannot adopt to families in Massachusetts or Rhode Island.*   Listed breed is an educated guess made by our veterinarian and is NOT a guarantee - this also means we have no way of knowing what a puppy's adult size will be. This dog is currently being fostered in Mississippi and will be transported via Barton's Barkers transport services upon adoption. Their adoption fee is $350 and includes spay/neuter, age appropriate vaccinations, a nose to tail vet check, microchip and transport costs. Second Chances lists dogs as being available in White River Junction, VT because we transport our dogs to the area every 3rd week after they have been adopted. All of our local shelters have a high euthanasia rate due to overpopulation so we created our rescue group to primarily adopt to the northern states to help keep as many dogs as we can from entering our kill shelters.   ##1312536##

Story
Looking for a dog for all seasons, a dog of many talents, jack of all trades, adventure by day - cuddle buddy by night type of pal? We'll you're in luck because Dobbie Boy is everything you could want in a companion and more. He's affectionate, loves to learn, dog friendly, loves people, is an affectionate guy, and an all around good boy. He's a master of all, paw-some at everything, hence why we added the "ultimate paw-some buddy" to his name because he really is an awesome dog that can do it all. He is currently fostered in Houston but we transport to many different areas. Locations are listed below Watch his video and you'll be wanting to take him home: https://youtu.be/h4vdQwWJVX4?si=NIuPFo9-5XkTRk2W Dobbie is believed to be a lab/GSD mix approximately 1 year old and currently weighs 44 lbs. He is a rescue dog and with any rescue, it's always a mystery and we cannot guarantee breed or age. Dobbie is dog friendly and is very small dog friendly too! He is actually currently fostered with 3 small chihuahua's under 10 lbs and does fantastic with them. He does want to play with them and he his foster mom says that her little chi's are not the most playful with bigger dogs and can be a little spicy with bigger dogs and Dobbie is not phased at all. He shares affection, treats (even steak) around other dogs with no issues. He is also fostered with 2 large breed dogs and does great with them as well. Dobbie is a playful guy with other dogs and he loves to romp around the yard with them, play chase, and engage in those rumble and tumble wrestling matches. In a home, he would be best placed with a dog that enjoys roughhousing and doesn't mind letting Dobbie know if they need a play break or if the play gets a little too rough. Dobbie listens to corrections very well with other dogs and sometimes needs a little reminder here and there. He's just a young playful guy that likes to have a good time. After a good play session, he loves to hangout in the yard and explore with other dogs. Dobbie would also do best in a kitty free home. Dobbie will happily be your partner in crime. He has an adventurous side to him and loves to explore new places, enjoys walking through trails, smelling all the new smells and just enjoying the great outdoors. Dobbie's leash skills are impressive as well. He hardly ever pulls and only pulls occasionally when he wants to go say hello to a new human friend or doggie friend. It doesn’t take much to correct him either, a simple leash correction and check in with his handler is all it takes. His foster mom even says that he already has a great recall and she loves teaching him new things. Dobbie is super smart and wants to please his people! He is able to pick up a new trick within minutes. His willingness to learn and eagerness to please means that any additional training you want to do with him with be easy and fun for you both. Dobbie would actually love it if his people like teaching their dog tricks because he really does love to learn and make you happy. He is already crate trained, potty trained, and has been known to stay in his crate for up to 5 hours with no issues. His foster mom is able to come home and give him potty breaks through out the day on occasion depending on the day and she says he is also so happy to see her. He is not destructive, has great house manners, can entertain himself and isn’t always getting into things he’s not supposed to. Dobbie loves toys and will happily lounge on the couch nibbling on a stuffy or tossing it in the air playing by himself. If you watched his video you saw just how great he is about entertaining himself while you're watching a movie or even working out. He hangs out at the gym everyday while his foster mom works out and she says he is the best workout partner. Overall, Dobbie has a perfectly balanced energy about him and would do best in a semi active home with a backyard. His foster says he’s the perfect mix of playful and calm. He is the best of both worlds and a dog that can do it all. When he’s not out on adventures with you, playing in the backyard for a game of fetch, learning new tricks, or enjoying playtime with other dogs, he’s a chill guy snuggling with you on the couch or relaxing on his bed. We also believe that Dobbie has the potential of being a great family dog as well. He has been around kids as young as 10 years old and loves them! He likes the fact that they can play with him and also shower him with affection. Just imagine Dobbie in the backyard with your kids all playing soccer together. Those are some core memories right there that your kids will cherish forever. We are willing to test Dobbie Boy with anything you need us to in order to ensure it's a perfect match. We can make anything happen! Just let us know. You can join along on our private Facebook event page to follow their adventure, connecting you with other adopters and providing updates throughout their transport journey! You will get to meet your new pup over a video call before signing paperwork, creating a fun and personalized adoption experience! The adoption fee is $900 and includes all vetting (DAPP with booster, Bordetella, Rabies vaccine, multiple broad spectrum deworming treatments, spay/neuter, flea prevention, a 12 month heartworm preventative injectible, heartworm test and treatment if needed, a microchip with free lifetime registration, a high quality nylon Martingale collar, a health certificate deeming the pup healthy for travel, cost of transport*, and priceless years of love and loyal companionship! We have over 15,000 successful adoptions so far and have excellent Google Reviews: https://g.co/kgs/UQ5Pyai We care deeply about making the perfect match between dog and family for long term success. Our rescue has a 2 acre property in Texas where we assess every animal with trainers on staff, we modify behavior as needed, and create individualized behavior plans to help prepare dogs for their future families including crate training, potty training, leash walking, etc. Our fosters are able to attend group trainings and socialization play groups to keep dogs adoption-ready. Our on-site trainers support the positive growth of our dogs and we enjoy seeing their progress! Our commitment to comprehensive medical care sets us apart. We've received glowing feedback from veterinarians who commend our dedication to ensuring the health and well-being of every animal in our care with treatments that often go above and beyond. Our adoption fees reflect the extensive care and resources that go into each animal we save. The adoption fee is a donation to the mission and goes far beyond getting a fully vetted pet. The rescue’s hard costs alone (excluding transport) for a healthy dog to go through our program typically range between $412 to $859, which includes boarding, food, medications, vaccines, and spay/neuter. For heartworm-positive dogs, hard costs are upwards of $1,368. Additionally, dogs requiring extended boarding, extra training, or extra medical care—such as dental work, vision care, or orthopedic care—can lead to expenses running into the thousands. Also, included in the adoption fee are costs to cover transport up to the Pacific Northwest or East Coast. Transport is a significant additional expense to the rescue. While adoption fees help cover part of these expenses, we want to emphasize that the rescue does not receive government funding and must fundraise to offset the remaining expense balance which ranges $100-1,000++ per animal on these direct costs. It doesn’t stop there! Our adopters also receive these SPECIAL PERKS: Extensive behavioral testing and information from trainers on our staff to ensure the perfect fit for your family Discounts on Embark DNA test kit- $30 off of Breed ID test & $50 off of Breed ID plus Health test 30 day trial of pet insurance with Trupanion A free private online dog training session with GoodPup, plus low pricing for future sessions 70% off of your first order of Fetch, a delicious PNW based fresh dog meatballs subscription Coupons for a fun visit to Petco 20% off of Dr. Cuddles pet first aid and hygiene solutions Discounted heartworm, flea prevention, and monthly dewormer Access to our exclusive FB Adopters page, where you can network for play dates, resources, and connect with other adopters that share their passion for their adopted pup! Did you know that the Greater Houston area faces some of the highest stray and overpopulation rates in the nation? We are a non profit charity. Our goal is simple— to reduce the homeless pet population through community outreach, free spay and neuter services, and by rescuing animals from the streets or overcrowded shelters where euthanasia due to lack of space is often the only option. The dog you've found online is not only lucky to be in our program, but also incredibly fortunate to have caught your eye. Thank you for considering adoption and for joining us in our mission! Story
This cutie is Leo. He is currently 3 months old and weighs approximately 9lbs. We think they may be a German Shepard/ Husky mix, but with rescue it’s a guess! What matters most is that they are adorable and are one the MOST desperate in the entire US based on statistics for where this puppy is from. Shelters in this area are having to euthanize puppies. So, this puppy needs you! If you choose a puppy from us, it saves their life as well as the life of another in its place. Watch Leo’s playful personality here: https://youtu.be/fDrjYA1CAjI?si=ygr2tYd5SlLCG-ko Leo is playful, sweet, curious, and cuddly. He loves to play with his siblings and take lots of naps. Eat, sleep, play, repeat- such is puppy life! We pride ourselves in being able to give you good personality and behavioral information to help ensure this baby is the right fit for you. You are also welcome to do a Facetime call to meet your new baby before signing paperwork! Leo is still very young and will need a family that can commit to training, socialization and all the dedication puppyhood requires. A puppy is discovering new things that shape their personalities with each passing day. Implementing routine, structure, setting boundaries, and proper socialization is key from the start. We require a commitment from adoptive families to crate train their new puppy starting immediately when arriving at their new home, which will help with potty training, energy management, and the overall development of a well-rounded adult dog. You will be guaranteed to get lots of kisses in return from your new best friend! Ready to welcome a new furry friend into your life?
