Meet Coco, a cheerful, affectionate, and playful 1 1/2 year-old German Shepherd mix (about 40 lbs) who is ready to be someone's most loyal companion. She's the kind of dog who will worm her way into your personal space just to give you love. Once she's comfortable with you, she is an absolute delight.
Coco's journey started in the mountains of Puerto Rico, where she was found as a stray before making her way to New England. She was adopted locally, but a home with young children and a lot of household activity turned out to be a bit overwhelming for her, and she's now in foster care looking for her perfect second chance.
She thrives in calm, peaceful environments where she can truly settle in and be herself. Her crate is her safe space, and according to her foster mom, she's been sleeping in it every night and doing really well. Once she's comfortable, Coco is pure joy. She loves other dogs and would thrive with a canine companion by her side. In her first home, she made plenty of friends at doggy daycare and has always gotten along warmly with people too. Outside, she absolutely comes alive, especially in the snow, where she goes all-in on a good game of fetch. And after burning off that energy? She's a champion napper.
This smart girl has completed two levels of obedience training and has mastered sit, stay, down, and come. Her recall in particular has blown her foster mom away - she comes when called reliably and eagerly. She's learning great leash manners using a harness and is house-training well. Everyday life with her is genuinely easy and rewarding.
Her foster mom immediately connected with Coco and her sweet nature. She is always sneaking over to get close and soak up as much love as she can get. Coco is healthy, happy, and ready to bring so much sunshine into the right home. If you're looking for a loyal, gentle companion who will love you with her whole heart, Coco just might be your girl.
All dogs are up to date on vaccinations and spayed/neutered at the time of adoption. All dogs require professional training to become the best family member they can be.

PLEASE READ: If a dog is listed, then s/he is currently available for adoption. Their information is correct to the best of our abilities and the information we have been given as of the day of posting. From time to time we receive new information/photos of a dog and we do recreate their listing, which means their old listing link will no longer be valid. Note that if the dog is listed as an "Out of town pet" there are NOT additional transport fees - it is included in our adoption fee Our dogs are rescued from various situations. It is most likely that both their parents were strays and even if not, mixes of some sort and that their grandparents were mixes as well. The dog may have some genetic material of an American Staffordshire Terrier (pit bull). The dogs are usually mixes of many breeds, making them a breed all their own - a True and adorable American MUTT. If you are interested in this dog, you must submit an application. Great Dog is not a shelter so there is no building you can visit. Our dogs live in private foster homes until adopted.
