Story
Loki is looking for an experienced German Shepherd home with an active family who can match his energy and continue his training. Loki is a big, strong, young dog who is exuberant, friendly, and full of life. He loves to play, enjoys affection, and is very food and toy motivated, making him eager to learn. He’s currently working on not jumping up to greet people and is making great progress. Loki’s owner made the heartbreaking decision to surrender him after facing hip surgery and multiple spinal surgeries. She loved him deeply but knew he deserved a home that could provide the activity, structure, and exercise a young dog needs. According to his owner, Loki spent much of his first 18 months on a run in the yard with limited walks or exercise, so he missed out on some important socialization and experiences. Since coming to GSRNE, Loki has made wonderful progress. He loves his walking adventures and takes in the world with curiosity, his eyes and focus everywhere as he explores his surroundings. We’ve been working on his obedience training, and he’s doing very well. Because of his size, strength, and enthusiasm, Loki will do best with someone who has solid German Shepherd experience and an active lifestyle. With continued training, structure, and love, we know Loki has all the potential to become an amazing lifelong companion. For more information: https://gsrne.org/our-available-dogs/

Story
We rescued Zoe 4 years ago and truly love her. Unfortunately things have changed in that we now have grandchildren and we don't feel comfortable with Zoe around young children. Zoe has become very protective of me and doesn't like to share me. She is very well trained but has that initial anxiety reaction to people and other animals.

Story
I’m looking to rehome my German Shepherd due to changes in my circumstances, and this decision has been very difficult because he is truly a wonderful dog. He is happy, playful, loyal, and loves spending time with people. He enjoys walks, playing fetch, and being part of the family. He is well-behaved, affectionate, and has a great personality. While he does take a little time to warm up to other dogs, with proper introductions and patience he does very well. He would thrive in a loving home with an owner who can give him the time, attention, and care he deserves. He has brought so much joy to my life, and I want to find him a forever home where he can continue to be happy and loved.

Story
Meet Gunner, a 5-month-old, 22-lb sweetheart with the gentlest heart. Gunner was dumped at a construction site in Puerto Rico, surrounded by loud, scary machines and chaos. Terrified, he hid inside a storage container just trying to stay safe. Thankfully, rescuers found him before something terrible happened. Because of his rough start, Gunner can be a little shy at first — but it is more of a docile tentativeness as he is still incredibly loving and affectionate. He absolutely loves to snuggle and melts into you when give him belly rubs. Underneath his timid side is a soft, sweet puppy who just wants comfort, kindness, and someone to trust. Gunner also has a tiny little club foot, but vets say it is completely fine and purely cosmetic — it doesn’t slow him down one bit and there is nothing medically wrong with him. If anything, it just makes him look like he’s salsa dancing when he walks, which honestly makes him even more adorable. Now Gunner is ready for a forever home where he can continue building confidence, soaking up love, and finally experience the safe, happy puppyhood he always deserved.

Story
PLEASE NOTE: This dog is currently out of state but will be transported to Massachusetts shortly with no additional travel costs. Roughly 90% of our dogs are adopted prior to their transport up to MA and 10% are adopted locally.Meet Wally! Wally is approximately 5 months old, 21lb currently, and he is a German Shepherd mix! His life was on the line (threatening to be shot) and a good samaritan had to step in to give him a fresh start. He then contracted parvo but has fully recovered. In his foster home, he is working hard on his house training, crate-training, and leash walking. He could join households with kids 10+, cats and other dogs. His foster says, `Wally will make a great addition to his new family. He is still a puppy, but he is learning very quickly. He has not pottied in his crate yet. When we take him outside, he will potty right away and then go play. He has had one accident in the house, but I think he was trying to tell me he needed to go out. We are working on watching his cues to go outside. Wally is also very food motivated. He is learning to sit to get his meals and to get a treat. He likes to play fetch with a ball and will bring it back to you. He does like cats and tries to play with my cats. He will run around them, but not really chase them. My cats are very dog friendly so they do not hit him or swipe at him at all. They try to play too. He loves to play with other dogs. We are always there when he does play with them. He is also started to play tug-of-war with the dogs. He knows where all the dog toys are and will pick out which one he wants to play with next. He has learned how to jump on the couch to cuddle with us and give us way too many kisses, but we love it. Wally is a puppy and is not always sure what his legs do yet if he gets to running too fast. The family that adopts Wally will truly have a one in 1 million dog. Wally only wants love and to give love.`He is available for adoption in N Dartmouth on June 19th or possibly sooner. Please fill out an application on our website at https://www.browndogcoalition.com/adoptable as a first step.-Dogs may not be given as gifts or surprises.-Please thoughtfully discuss with your entire household the physical, safety, financial and emotional responsibilities of a dog BEFORE applying to adopt.- More information about our adoption process, application and adoption fees can be found at browndogcoalition.com

Story
Meet Annie! A spirited almost five-year-old German Shepherd currently in Fryeburg, ME, whose essence is a lively blend of intelligence, loyalty, and boundless outdoor joy wrapped in a beautiful sable coat. At around 55 pounds, this bright and curious girl brings the classic Shepherd spirit to life with every step she takes through the woods, every butterfly she chases, and every joyful twirl under the open sky! Annie is wonderfully smart and has completed formal obedience training, confidently responding to commands like sit, stay, and down. She is crate trained and often chooses her crate as her own cozy retreat, showing just how adaptable and thoughtful she can be. Whether it is a car ride adventure or a playful afternoon with her favorite people, Annie thrives on connection and activity. She adjusts easily to daily routines and loves being part of the rhythm of her caregiver’s life. This energetic girl truly comes alive outdoors! Wide open spaces, fresh air, and room to run and explore are where Annie shines brightest. She would be so happy in a home with a securely fenced yard or a rural setting where she can stretch her legs and enjoy her favorite pastime of exploring nature. Annie would benefit from an experienced German Shepherd pet parent who understands her need for structure, positive reinforcement, and thoughtful guidance. She is not compatible with other dogs or cats and needs a single-pet, child-free environment with minimal visiting animals. While Annie can show interest in playing with other dogs, she can become overwhelmed quickly and may react in ways that require careful management, including a past incident where she harmed another dog who entered her space. She would thrive with a confident caregiver who can provide consistent boundaries, recognize her signals, and support her with ongoing training and behavior guidance. With the right person, she forms deep, meaningful bonds and becomes a devoted and protective companion. Annie also requires a family prepared to support her special care needs, including managing her diagnosed Ventricular Premature Contraction (VPC), a heart condition that makes anesthesia unsafe and is why she has not been spayed, along with monitoring her past seizure history, though she has not had any recent episodes. She is a loving, constant companion who needs a patient and confident person to share her world. Could Annie be the loyal adventure partner you have been searching for?
