Story
Meet Norman! A spirited approximately one-and-a-half-year-old German Shepherd/Siberian Husky/American Pitbull Terrier mix from sunny Los Angeles, CA, now embracing the snowy wonderland of Lowell, MI! With his striking tricolor coat and mesmerizing mismatched eyes—one blue, one brown—Norman is a true head-turner. But it’s not just his looks that make him special; this high-energy, adventure-loving pup is always ready for fun! Norman thrives on movement, whether he’s dashing through the snow, leaping over fallen trees, or chasing after his beloved red ball. His enthusiasm is boundless, and he’s eager to share his love for playtime with an active family. Though he’s still working on leash manners, he’s made great progress and loves the freedom of a long lead for fetch sessions. Norman picks up training at lightning speed—he already knows “sit,” “wait,” “place,” “stay,” and “leave it.” Plus, he’s trained with the “yes” marker, making him a fantastic student who’s always eager to learn. He’s also a perfect gentleman in his crate, settling in like a pro when it’s time to rest. While Norman is friendly and curious about other dogs, he does have a strong prey drive—squirrels beware! He hasn’t had much experience with cats, so that’s still a mystery. And when it comes to water? Well, he’s still deciding how he feels about it. Lately, he’s been getting used to being in and around water, even exploring the creek for the first time! Shallow water is becoming less intimidating, and he’s making great progress—one paw at a time! Norman is seeking a home with experienced guardians who understand high-energy breeds and can provide plenty of structure, training, and activity. He thrives on both physical and mental challenges, so an active household willing to take him on adventures would be ideal. Due to his discomfort around young children, a home without little ones is recommended. Older kids may be fine with proper supervision. He’s highly food-motivated, which makes training fun and rewarding, and with positive reinforcement, he’ll continue to grow into the confident, well-mannered companion he’s meant to be! Norman recently completed his Lyme disease treatment and is currently doing great—he doesn’t show any symptoms and isn’t on any medications at this time. He’ll be retested in about five months to ensure everything stays on track. In the meantime, he’s as playful, affectionate, and adventurous as ever! Norman is eager to find a new loving home where he can run, learn, and cuddle up after a day of play. Could you be the one to welcome this spirited goofball into your life? Contact adopt@joyfulpets.com to meet Norman today!

Story
Meet Sweetz! A devoted almost eleven-year-old German Shepherd currently in Wilmington, DE, whose heart is as big as her 85-pound frame, and just as ready to curl up in your lap for a good cuddle and a face rub. Sweetz is the very definition of a loyal companion. She’s goofy, affectionate, and absolutely thrives in a peaceful, predictable environment where she can soak up all the love. With her classic black and tan coat and soulful eyes, she’s just as content lounging in a sunny patch of yard as she is following her favorite human from room to room like a fluffy, four-legged shadow! She’s deeply bonded to her people and especially protective of the ones she loves, particularly the family's twelve-year-old child, whom she proudly watched over like her own. Sweetz has a few important needs that help her feel safe and happy. She must be the only pet in her new home, as she’s shown reactivity toward other animals, especially in environments where attention is shared. Sweetz became aggressive with another dog she lived with in the past and there was a bite incident. While she can walk calmly past other dogs in public and even greet familiar neighbors through fences, Sweetz truly flourishes in a calm, pet-free space where she can be the solo star of the show. She’s also best suited to an adult-only home with caregivers who understand large breeds and value the joys of a calm, consistent routine. This sweet girl knows her basic commands (sit, stay, fetch, and easy) and she handles being left alone like a pro. She’s house-trained, microchipped, spayed, and up to date on all her vaccinations. While vet visits require a muzzle due to some anxiety, Sweetz generally thrives with routine, gentle care, and a quiet space to call her own. Whether she’s playing a laid-back game of fetch, basking in the sun, or leaning in for a good face rub, Sweetz is always ready to remind you that love comes in the form of a big heart, four paws, and a soft nudge for more pets! Reach out to adopt@joyfulpets.com to learn more about this sweet, silly girl and the happiness she’s waiting to share! Content Notice: This pet is represented by Joyful Pets. Story
Meet Wolfe! A striking three-year-old white German Shepherd currently in Jefferson Manor, VA, whose essence is a blend of boundless playfulness and the tender heart of a true companion. With his snow-colored coat, soulful eyes, and ever-wagging tail, Wolfe turns heads wherever he goes, and he’s ready to turn your home into a haven of fun and love! This 70-pound gentle giant thrives on connection and structure. He’s an intelligent boy who already knows a variety of commands (sit, down, off, bed, and more) and he absolutely shines when given a task or challenge. Wolfe is deeply food- and praise-motivated, which makes training a joy for both pup and person. He’s the kind of dog who wants to get it right and tries his hardest every single time! Despite his size and strength, Wolfe is wonderfully gentle, especially around kids. He’s had experience with children as young as six and has even shown natural calmness around babies. Fetch and tug-of-war are his favorite games, and he’s always up for a spirited match that ends with tail wags and goofy grins! He’s also incredibly respectful in the home, no furniture chewing, no chaos, just a dog who knows which toys are his and is happy to stick to them. Wolfe is crate-trained, house-trained, and follows a steady routine of two meals and three to four walks a day. He’s friendly with new people, though he may be a bit wary of men at first, patience and a gentle tone help him warm up quickly. When it comes to other dogs, Wolfe is still learning. Having always been the only pup, he wasn’t socialized early and can be reactive on leash, barking and pulling, often with a wagging tail. His behavior seems rooted in uncertainty, not aggression. With time, consistency, and positive reinforcement, Wolfe is showing potential to build confidence and feel more secure. For now, he’s most comfortable as the only dog in a calm, supportive home. His ideal home is one filled with patience, play, and love. Maybe even with some kids to throw his ball! Wolfe will be required to be neutered prior to placement in his new home. Could Wolfe be the loyal, loving buddy your family needs? Reach out to adopt@joyfulpets.com and come meet your new best friend! Content Notice: This pet is represented by Joyful Pets. Brutus LOVES showing off his favorites. He’s a total social butterfly and has a blast romping around with other dogs. Playgroups? Yes please. Friends? Even better. Toys in playgroups? Peak happiness. Brutus is also very clear about one thing: 👉 He knows his name. 👉 He loves his name. 👉 He would like to keep his name. (We respect the king’s wishes.) All Brutus wants now is a loving, active family with a fenced yard where he can zoom, play, trot with his toys, and hang out with his humans. Story
Polaris is a young girl who was found dumped on the side of the road with a bag of dog food dumped on the ground as her only help for survival. A good samaritan picked her up and contacted me. Help Polaris never face that kind of treatment again by giving her a forever home. She is very sweet and friendly and great with other dogs and people and kids. She definitely has a prey drive though, which is not at all unusual for dogs, so no kitties or small animals. She walks well on the leash and does well in a crate. She is currently still in Oklahoma where she was rescued but she can only be adopted out of state where people treat animals well. She has to be prepaid and picked up directly from transport at one of our transport drop off locations below. If things don't work out for some reason, which rarely ever happens, we will either find a local foster to take her in or she will go back to Oklahoma on our next transport until a new home is found. Note: No dogs are advertised as potty-trained because most dogs need at least some re-training in a new environment and after being in a shelter/rescue environment/strays. www.facebook.com/desideratarescue (copy and paste into a new browser window) Transport locations: - Washington State (Kennewick, Spokane, Tumwater, Tacoma, Tukwila, Lynnwood/Edmonds, Bellingham) - Oregon (Portland and Springfield) - Colorado (Ft Lupton) - Idaho (Heyburn and Boise/Meridian) - Utah (Ogden) - Wyoming (Evanston, Rock Springs, Laramie) - Montana (Missoula) - Illinois (Vandalia, Springfield, Chicago) - Indiana (Spiceland, Burn Harbor) - Michigan (St Joseph, Battle Creek, Ann Arbor) - Wisconsin (Madison, Wausau, Eau Claire, Appleton, Milwaukee) - Minnesota (Minneapolis/St Paul) - Iowa (Des Moines) - Ohio (Columbus and London) - Pennsylvania (Erie, Pittsburgh and Harrisburg) - New York (Buffalo and Albany) - Connecticut (Enfield) - New Jersey (Bedminster) - Nevada (Las Vegas) - Arizona (Flagstaff) Vetting: spayed, microchipped, rabies vaccine, bordetella vaccine, dhpp vaccine x 3, lepto vaccine x 2, dewormed several times, on monthly flea and tick prevention, on monthly heartworm protection, heartworm tested (negative) Adoption fee: $550 (includes the $250 cost of transport from Oklahoma and all vetting listed above) Adoption application (copy and paste into a new browser window): https://form.jotform.com/82677586784176 FAQs (copy and paste into a new browser window): https://docs.google.com/document/d/12eb_SRtk1AzaBl87UltcLJ24MjH9UhQm_LE77iWZEQA/edit?tab=t.0 Desiderata Rescue is Oklahoma Licensed Rescue #95
