Story
We rescued Sidney from a horrific shelter in Memphis, TN. When we got him, he was skin and bones and had some barrier aggression issues (who knows what horrors he suffered there) It didn't take long for Sidney to realize he was now safe and could start letting down his guard. Sidney Poitier has filled out and is truly a stunning dog. Sidney is about 2 years old, and is at his healthy weight of 80 lbs. Sidney is a very intelligent fellow, he learns quicky and is anxious to please. He will do well with a job and/or a lot of stimulation, long walks and hikes. He will do well with an experienced dog person. Sidney loves meeting new people. He has done well with large dogs he has met, however he is would not be good with small dogs or cats. Sidney does show barrier reactivity, however, when the barrier is removed (whether it is a crate, fence or car window) he show absolutely no issues. Because Sidney likes a lot of activity, he will need a securely fenced yard (must be a physical fence, not an electric or invisible system)  He is neutered, fully vaccinated, microchipped and on monthly treatment for flea/ticks and heartworm prevention Sidney is currently located in the Middle TN area but transport is included in the adoption fee for approved adopter If you are interested in Sidney Poitier, email cox_ann@bellsouth.net for an application

Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. KAI was saved from being shot on the streets of Oman by an amazing organization Muscat Dog Adoption. He along with his7 friends were flown into JFK where they were cleared the CDC and then picked up and transported back to Give a Dog a Home Rescue, in Sebec, Maine on 5 April 2024 KAI is neutered, rabies, core vaccines, monthly preventatives, heartworm and tick disease tested negative and is microchipped. He has an estimated date of birth of 30 January 2010 and at the time of transport weighed around 40 pounds. Mixed breed dogs in Oman are referred to as Omani Wadi Dogs, with most of them being Saluki mixes. KAI was one of the favourites of the rescue in Oman, he had been saved and his foot was all mangled and sadly it was deemed it couldn't be fixed and the only option was amputation. He healed and is doing great and having 3 legs doesn't slow him down. He shares a kennel with his Omani friend "Fliss" and they are constantly wrestling and chasing around the kennel run playing - which is beautiful to see them relaxed and having fun after all they have endured. KAI is a very gentle soul who is happy to chill out, but also play and be goofy. He loves having his neck and ears scratched and will make a great snuggle companion, but of course still needs a fair amount of exercise and lots of fun adventures. When Kai was saved his front leg was mangled that the veterinarians were not able to save and so the decision was made to amputate his leg, and as with all amputee's, this doesn't stop him from having fun and living life. He will need joint supplements to help support the extra work and weight his other leg is enduring. We take a lot of pictures and videos and don't always have the time to post them on the dogs individual webpage and adoption site, so we ask that you go to the rescue       YouTube channel       and       photo albums on our Facebook page       to see a LOT of pictures and videos. We are looking for families that have the lifestyle that the dog needs to lead a healthy, both mentally and physically life, who can afford a GOOD quality food, toys and treats and understand the importance of veterinary wellness checks. KAI is located at the rescue in Sebec Maine and is available for a reduced adoption fee of $550. Interested families are required to complete our application process and once approved schedule an appointment to come to the rescue to meet and take home their new best friend. Our process takes 1-2 days as long as we are able to talk to references, so be prepared to be approved (hopefully) to adopt within a few days of submitting the adoption application. https://giveadogahome-rescue.rescuegroups.org/forms/form?formid=5838 HOUSE TRAINED - All of our dogs are located in the kennel building so we are not able to say if a dog is house-trained, however, they do have access and use the dog door to access their run, play area 24/7. FOOD - We feed a variety of high quality brands and flavors including, chicken, turkey, beef, lamb and fish generally alternated daily. CATS - As the dogs are in the kennels, we are not able to say how they are with cats. Story
Brandi and her sister have been with us for quite a few months, their siblings have been adopted and doing great in their homes. She would love a home to call her own! She is currently in a home with other dogs and a cat and does wonderfully with everyone. Brandi can be shy at first, but is cuddly and loving once she gets to know you. She is very agile and would probably do great with some agility training! She is house trained and does great in a crate! She is looking for an active home who enjoys outdoor activities. She would love a fenced in yard because she loves to play outside. Right now, she is being fostered in Tennessee. The rescue lists in areas where transport is available. They use safe USDA licensed dog transports that will bring her to their new family, once they are adopted! Once you send an application, the rescue will contact you for an interview and be able to send more photos and even videos She is spayed and UTD on all required vaccinations. She is microchipped and on flea preventative. Please, you MUST click the following link BEFORE emailing for further information. Story
Link is 5 years old. He has lots of energy when he wants to play but most of the time he spends the day sleeping. He is very sweet and is very cuddly. Link is nervous outside of the house and requires training, he is scared of dogs and people he meets outside. When i have people over he is always good with them and loves to be around them, but is scared outside of the house. I adopted Link and Loki from my parents in 2021 and will not be able to take care of them when my lease ends, as my career will require me to move frequently.

Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.Meet Brie!  This long-haired beauty is a sweetly tempered, stunning-looking girl.  Our best assessment (NO GUARANTEE) is that she is about 14 weeks old and a high-level German Shepherd mix.  Her gorgeous brindle coloring, which offsets her lush black coat, could be Dutch Shepherd, but that is a best guess only.  Right now, Brie weighs about 30 to 35 lbs - so, we expect (though CANNOT GUARANTEE) that she will be large or extra-large when full-grown.Brie is doing very well in foster care.  She is catching on to basic commands (including 'down') quickly.  She enjoys playing with other dogs, is doing very well with potty training and crate training, and appears to be happy, healthy, smart girl.  In her foster home, there are dogs larger and smaller than she -- she is fine with all of them.  However, she does have some prey drive, but she corrects quickly when her foster mom or the little dogs in her household tell her to back off.  In any event, given her breed mix and this trait, we are seeking a home without small animals (be it dogs or cats, etc.).Anyone interested in Brie should do their research on the GSD breed.  This breed is wonderful but requires consistent, committed training, as well as a strong leader.  We will give preference to applicants who have first-hand knowledge of and experience with this breed.  We simply want to provide Brie with the type of environment in which we feel she will best flourish.Brie is up-to-date on her core vaccines and is ready for her forever home.  If you feel you can provide Brie with the love, support, training, guidance and consistency that she needs to become the marvelous dog she is meant to be, please apply to be considered (as described below). _______________________________________________________________________**If you are seriously interested, YOU NEED TO APPLY.  Also, a follow-up email to info@safeatlast.net, is strongly recommended. To pursue adoption, please register on www.safeatlast.net.  (Click Register on the left-hand side of our homepage.)  When you receive your password on your email account, please log back on to our website to complete the SAFE AT LAST on-line adoption application.  (Click Forms/Application on the left-hand side of our homepage and select the Adoption Application.) Once we have your completed application, if we feel you are a good match, we will contact you by email. (So, please check your SPAM.)  Our process is straightforward but involves a phone interview, reference checks and a home assessment.  An adoption fee of $450, and a refundable $35 spay/neuter deposit (required by NYS law), apply. YOU CANNOT MEET BRIE UNTIL YOU HAVE BEEN APPROVED TO ADOPT.  WE CANNOT CONSIDER YOU UNTIL YOU HAVE SUBMITTED THE FULLY FILLED OUT SAFE AT LAST ON-LINE ADOPTION APPLICATION.  Delay in submitting your application will put you behind other potentially suitable applicants.  Ultimately, approved adopters will be required to complete an adoption in Schoharie/Albany County. Thank you for your interest.(Sorry we cannot respond to generic 'check the box' 'Is he available' 'Can you give me more information' inquiries.)
