Story
I adopted him over a year ago, but my retired K9 does not get along with him. He's a good boy - he needs a crate (he sleeps in a crate, I crate him when I leave him alone because he will steal food, probably because he was a stray), very quiet, clean, does not bite, not destructive, only barks for protection, has no issues with the cat or the chickens. Not a mean bone in his body, very chill. Knows several commands. Easy keeper, he eats anything and never had the typical stomach issue German Shepherds have. Loves being vacuumed - yes, vacuumed. He is quite big, about 90+ pounds. Rabies shot is good until 2028. He is very athletic, loves hiking and doing zoomies. Has no issues with dogs or people unless they come on your property unannounced - he is protective. Loves car rides. Quite a ham and very affectionate - he'd make a real family dog. I think he is part Great Pyrenees, he has double rear dew claws, and his personality is more like a big fuzzy hairball - hate to see him go...

Story
Our poor girl Salem is still waiting for a home after 8 long years. Though she can be shy at first, she longs to be someone’s loyal guardian, hiking partner, and best friend. Despite her severe hip dysplasia, she’s very active and LOVES to run. She’s so playful and full of life. Her inner puppy comes out when she gets to play with toys! Salem also loves cooler weather, though she can deal with summer heat by playing in the water. She’s great with other dogs, and loves to play with them! She’s amazing on and off leash. Salem is our special girl and we’d love to see her in a home where she can live comfortably and happily for her forever.

Story
Mystery and Black dog are a bonded pair. Mystery prefers the company of other dogs. She’s not affectionate but LOVES playing fetch and going on walks! Black dog is the definition of lazy. His idea of exercise is moving from the bed to his food bowl. We'd prefer them to be the only dogs in the home just because they share such a strong bond!

German Shepherd Dog Belgian Malinois

Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.Sandy and her siblings were saved from a high-kill shelter in Calfornia and arrived at Give a Dog a Home Rescue in Sebec, Maine on Wednesday 3rd August. We post our available dogs in states across the East Coast and Canada to reach as many people as possible in hopes of finding perfect homes and families. We do not transport dogs — families must come to the rescue in Sebec, Maine to meet and, hopefully, take home their new best friend. Sandy is a Belgian Mal / German Shepherd Mix and it is important to understand that she is a high energy, intelligent girl so be sure you have the lifestyle that she needs to give her and you the best life possible together... note she is also a love bug and all round sweet, gentle girl - not the maligator people assume when they hear the name Belgian Mal. Health & Background ✅ Spayed ✅ Rabies and core vaccines up to date ✅ On monthly flea/tick preventatives ✅ Microchipped ⚖️ Weight: 65 lbs ish Estimated DoB: 23 May 2025 After a devastating fire at the rescue on 20 January, SANDY went to a foster family in southern Maine on 24th January. This is what her foster family has said about her: Terra (aka Sandy) has been fostering with us for two months. She is such a loving soul and one of the sweetest pups you'll ever meet. Terra loves running and playing and taking walks with our dog, Apollo. Apollo was slow to accept her, but now that he has such a fun time playing with her in the yard, he has seemed to become much more tolerant of another dog in his house.   Terra is crate trained. She sleeps well through the night without complaint, and plays with her chew toys if she wakes up before we do. During the day she'll spend 30-45 minutes crated off and on. She does so without being noisy now, except she does still protest if we have her crated when we are eating dinner. She does better if our dog is crated at dinner time with her, so it seems to be at least partially a competition/jealousy issue.   She's got her basic commands down--come, stay, sit, lay down, and her release command 'break.' She walks nicely on a leash, although we do have some issues with pulling when she's walked along with another dog. She's calmer when she's walked on her own as she still gets more playful energy when she's with a canine friend. We had some peeing occur in the house the first 2-3 weeks, but she has done great with potty training and it's been more than a month since the last incident.   Terra loves her toys and isn't choosy...she'll go from playing with a stuffy to nomming on a rope toy to chasing around a ball. While she has her bursts of playful energy, she has overall been calming down and having long periods where she chills out and and rests peacefully.   It's been a pleasant evolution as now she is far more content to spend stretches of time laying next to me resting or chewing on a toy while I read or am at my desk.   Terra has been waiting long months since arriving at Give a Dog a Home Rescue rescue in September to find a forever home with a family that will give her the love she deserves. If you can be that family, please apply to adopt What SandyNeeds ‍♀️ An active family that can meet her physical and mental exercise needs Mental stimulation and enrichment — structure, toys, puzzles, and engaging activities ️ High-quality food and treats to keep her healthy and energized Regular veterinary wellness checks for preventive care and long-term health ❤️ Time to adjust and feel safe — patience to decompress and build trust   Adoption Details Adoption Fee: $550 Location: Southern Maine Families must complete and submit an adoption questionnaire. Once approved, you’ll be invited to schedule an appointment to meet Sandy. ⏱️ Applications are generally processed within 24-48 hours Click here to complete the Adoption Questionnaire Want to See More of Sandy?
