Story
Meet Java Java is an almost 4-year-old German Shepherd with a big personality, a playful spirit, and a heart ready for her forever home. She’s an active, intelligent girl who thrives on engagement and adventure — especially long walks, bonus points if you let her proudly carrying a toy the entire way. And true to her Frozen-inspired attitude, the cold never bothered her anyway! Java will do best with an adopter who has shepherd experience and understands the importance of both mental and physical enrichment. She can live with other dogs of similar size and energy, particularly those who enjoy rough-and-tumble play. When meeting new people, Java does have a big, loud bark — think built-in alarm system — but she’s never met a stranger she didn’t like, especially if they’re willing to bundle up and explore the outdoors with her. Java came to us experiencing urinary incontinence, and we’ve been working closely with our veterinary team to support her every step of the way. After weeks of visits, calls, and referrals, we have a solid plan in place. Java is scheduled for a cystoscopy consultation in May to help determine the cause of her incontinence and guide her long-term treatment or management plan. While we continue working toward answers, we’re hoping to find an adopter who can open their home and heart to Java during this chapter of her healing journey. The good news? Java isn’t leaking 24/7, and her incontinence is not her fault. She’s looking for a patient, understanding home that will keep her mind busy with training, enrichment, and regular exercise while her medical team works toward a solution. We are committed to covering Java’s veterinary care as we move forward, and we’re grateful for the support of our community in making that possible. Keep an eye out for Java’s upcoming fundraiser, which will help us continue providing the care she needs. If you’re searching for a loyal companion who’s equal parts playful, smart, and resilient — and you’re open to walking alongside her while she gets the answers she deserves — Java just might be your perfect match.Adoption fee: $250To apply: https://fcrspca.org/adopt/

Story
Meet Augie!Augie is a 1- to 2-year-old Shepherd/Husky mix with a curious mind and a playful spirit. He can entertain himself with just about anything — even a leash, which he’ll happily drag around as if it’s his own personal toy. As a lively puppy, Augie gets excitable and is learning to redirect his mouthy, chewing behavior onto appropriate toys rather than leashes, pant legs, or shoes — an endearing work in progress!Treats are Augie’s greatest motivation; he loves them so much that he sometimes forgets to chew, which only adds to his charming personality. He enjoys going for strolls and would thrive in a home that can provide regular walks and mental enrichment to keep his curious brain engaged.Augie is dog- and cat-friendly. Very large dogs can be a bit intimidating for him at first, but with proper introductions, he gains confidence quickly. He has shown slight resource guarding around food bowls, though this hasn’t been observed with toys and is manageable with structure and routine. Because of this, a home without children — or with children aged 12 and older — would be ideal. During visits from younger children, food and food bowls should be kept out of reach to help set Augie up for success. We’re still getting to know Augie, and his profile will be updated as we learn more. Story
Oca needs a family! One of the local shelters we pull from shared reports of Oca roaming a Greensboro neighborhood near a local college campus for several days. Neighbors said he was happy to accept treats from anyone who offered, but he’d quickly dart away if they tried to touch him. At just 7 months old, his limited experience made him shy around people - but time spent playing with other dogs has helped him blossom! He’s now running and playing when initially he wouldn’t. He’s being the silly puppy he couldn’t be on the streets…like playing with your shoelaces, tossing toys in the air and awing you when he wants attention or another treat! Oca is 51.0lbs., heartworm negative and up to date on his vaccines.
