Story
Being a German Shorthair & Hound mix, you can imagine that ol' Oscar is a lover of the outdoors! This sweet boy was born in May of 2015 and is still looking for a place to call his own. Oscar enjoys being around people, especially ladies, but he understands what it's like to need some space: your time, my time, and our time! Oscar experiences anxiety and because of this, boundaries are important to him. When his anxiety is low, Oscar is a goofy, playful boy who likes to chase balls, sticks, and rabbits. He loves, loves, loves long walks with plenty of time to let his hound nose get some exercise, and lots of exercise helps work off that extra energy that can make this handsome boy nervous! Because of his love for exploration, Oscar will need a fenced-in yard to keep him close to home.  Oscar is not kennel trained, but is totally fine being left to lounge around the house while you're away.  He's also housetrained, so no worries about that business! Oscar is a very smart dog who knows "sit", "stay", "lay down", "leave it" and he also knows that when he follows these fun words, he gets really yummy treats! Oscar's ideal home will be with an active person/couple who love to explore nature, just like he does, and who will love him like family while respecting his need for boundaries and independence! The suggested adoption donation for Oscar is $315.  We are a 501c3 organization which means that your donation may be TAX DEDUCTIBLE.  Your donation goes toward the high cost of veterinary care for our animals in rescue, as well as providing supportive services to animals in homes. Information about the adoption process:  All adoptions require a completed ADOPTION APPLICATION.  Once your application is approved, we will put you in touch with the dog’s foster to see if you and the pet are a good match.  If so, we will arrange a meeting for you and the pet.  The adoptions for all of our animals will take place in the Omaha, NE area and must be done by the adoptive family in person. We do not ship or deliver. Please Note:  We are a RESCUE, which is different from a shelter.  We conduct veterinary and personal reference checks during the application approval process. We always select the right applicant for each dog, based on the dog’s needs.  If you and the dog are not a good match, we will help you select another dog, or we will keep your approved application on file for 6 months. Good with dogs, Not good with cats, House-trained, Spayed or Neutered,
Story
Gunner is a 6-year-old neutered male weighing about 40 pounds who is struggling in the shelter environment and urgently needs a foster home where he can decompress. Shelters are overwhelming places for many dogs, and Gunner is one of them. The constant noise, activity, and confinement have made him increasingly anxious, and he would benefit greatly from the stability of a home while we evaluate what he needs long term. About Gunner Gunner is a high energy dog who enjoys playing fetch and does best when he has structure and an outlet for his energy. He is house trained and crate trained and previously lived in a home environment for several years. He has shown signs of anxiety, particularly in stressful environments. He was previously prescribed medication to help manage this but has not been on medication for about six months.  Dog Compatibility Gunner does well with other dogs his size and may actually do best in a home that already has another confident dog. He previously lived with a female dog and reportedly did well. However, he should not live with small dogs, as he has a tendency to chase them. Cats He has no known history with cats, but with him chasing small dogs, a home without cats is preferred. Children Gunner is not a good fit for a home with young children. While he has been around older children and done well with a 5-year-old, he showed concerning behavior toward a toddler in his previous home and would bark and snap when passing by. (We suspect the toddler made him anxious.) No bites have occurred, but because of this history we are seeking a calmer home without young children. Why He Needs a Foster Gunner has been surrendered twice. • His first home surrendered him after concerns about interactions with their toddler. • He was later adopted by an older couple, but he pulled the woman down while chasing an animal and they were unable to manage his energy. Neither situation means Gunner is a bad dog. It means he needs the right environment and people who understand an anxious, energetic dog. Ideal Foster Home Gunner would do best in a home that has: • No young children • No small dogs or cats • Possibly another medium or large dog companion • Someone who can give him exercise, structure, and patience while he decompresses Why Fostering Matters Right now the shelter environment is working against Gunner. A foster home would allow us to better understand his needs, help him settle, and set him up for success in a future permanent home. If you can open your home to Gunner, even temporarily, you could make a life changing difference for him.   If you are interested in giving him a permanent home, please complete our adoption application. If you are able to foster him, please complete our foster application. Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.March 8, 2026, 12:06 pm

Story
Brooke is new to Great Plains Pointer Rescue and is settling in while she finishes her vetting. She will be ready to meet her forever family soon. So far, Brooke has shown that she is great with other dogs and does well with children. She is affectionate, loves attention, and wants to be close to her people. She does have some athletic ability and has shown interest in jumping a fence, so she will need a secure six foot fence, invisible fencing, or a structured exercise plan to keep her safely contained and fulfilled. If you think Brooke might be the right fit, complete the adoption application here: ADOPT ME *Please be sure to read the adoption information page on our website before applying for a dog. Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.March 8, 2026, 12:06 pm

Story
Arrow has arrived and is settling nicely into foster care. We estimate he is around 10 years old, and he has already proven himself to be a devoted, affectionate companion. Arrow loves spending time with his humans and soaking up attention. He is not much of a jumper, but if you are sitting nearby there is a very good chance he will lean right into you for pets. And if you stop before he thinks the job is done, he will politely remind you with a nudge or a gentle paw. He is a fairly quiet boy. His foster family says he rarely barks. When he is in his kennel he may softly “sing the song of his people” for a bit, but he usually settles down fairly quickly. Like many pointers, Arrow is very enthusiastic about food. Meals and treats are a highlight of his day, and his foster mom says he definitely gets a little “jiggy with it” when he sees food coming his way. If you are looking for a companion who enjoys relaxing by your side, keeping you company around the house, and riding along as your car buddy, Arrow may be your guy. Arrow came to us with a reported history of seizures. Since arriving, we have completed an extensive veterinary evaluation and diagnostic testing to look for underlying causes. So far, his results have been very encouraging and nothing concerning has been identified. At this point, his veterinary team suspects the previous seizure activity may have been an isolated event, and we will continue to monitor him while he settles in, gains some much needed groceries, and enjoys life in foster care. Stay tuned for more updates about this loving boy as we continue to learn more about him.   Complete the adoption form here: ADOPT ME *Please be sure to read the adoption information page on our website before applying for a dog. Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.March 8, 2026, 5:42 pm

Story
Say hello to Reaux, a Pointer mix born July 2020. This cutie is looking for her very own home. Reaux loves to be the center of attention and when you are as cute as her, who can blame her? She loves to play outside chasing squirrels, so she would do best in a home with a fenced yard. She LOVES to have all the attention to herself, so she needs to be the only dog in the home. She does not get along with cats. She would enjoy kids that will play with her and help her try to catch those darn squirrels. Overall, Reaux is a very loving girl and cannot wait to find a home that is a perfect match for her! Reaux is kennel trained, will also sleep in dog bed on floor.  She does pretty good on walks, just a little anxious.  Good with bigger kids and adults, needs no other animals in home.   Only really barks to alert…to go inside, outside and while playing with us.   The suggested adoption donation for Reaux is $300. Muddy Paws is a 501c3 non-profit organization meaning that part of your donation MAY be TAX DEDUCTIBLE. We are a 100% volunteer rescue committed to giving animals a second chance at life. All donations go toward that mission. Adoption fees are the primary source of funding for the cost of veterinary care for our animals. In 2022 alone, we provided animal Healthcare totaling over $399,000 covered mainly through adoption fees.  Information about the adoption process: All adoptions require a completed ADOPTION APPLICATION. Once your application is approved, we will put you in touch with the animal’s foster to see if you and the pet are a good match. If so, we will arrange a meeting for you and the animal. The adoptions for all of our animals will take place in the Omaha, NE area and must be done by the adoptive family in person. Story
Hi! My name is Danica and I am a 2 year old (b. 2022) Pointer mix! I am a very cute girl who was rescued from my hometown in Houston, Texas. I only had minutes to spare when I was rescued, at risk of being euthanized any moment. I used to be a stray and wandered the streets of Houston, causing me to be positive for heartworm and being a mom to multiple puppy litters. But since being adopted, I was on meds (but to me they just taste like treats) to help me with my heartworm and I now feel like a new woman! I love being with my person, my foster mom calls me a Velcro Dog. I get a little nervous when apart from my person, so ideally I would love to live with someone who is home rather often and will want my company all day every day. I am a super sweet girl who just loves to lounge around with others and occasionally play with my foster brother. I am not a fan of being kenneled, but I am house trained. Please bring me into your loving home and you will receive all the love. The suggested adoption donation for Danica is $250, which includes a lifetime of free relationship-based training for any behavioral problems (not obedience training). Please Note: A Courtesy Post designates that an animal is still in the home of its owner and not in a Muddy Paws foster. This means that our exposure to the animal is limited since we are only assisting the owner in finding a new home for their pet. From time to time, owners find a new furever home for their pets outside of Muddy Paws Second Chance Rescue and there is a delay in removing them from our site. We apologize if the Courtesy Post you apply to adopt is unavailable for adoption. Information about the adoption process: All adoptions require a completed ADOPTION APPLICATION. Once your application has completed our prescreen steps, we will put you in touch with the animal’s foster to see if you and the pet are a good match. If so, we will arrange a meeting for you and the animal. The adoptions for all of our animals will take place in the Omaha, NE area and must be done by the adoptive family in person. We do not ship or deliver. Please Note: We are a RESCUE, which is different from a shelter. We conduct veterinary and personal reference checks, and a Home Visit (Virtual in some cases) during the application approval process. We always select the right applicant for each animal, based on the animal’s needs. If you and the animal are not a good match, we will help you select another animal, or we will keep your approved application on file for 6 months.
