Story
Being a German Shorthair & Hound mix, you can imagine that ol' Oscar is a lover of the outdoors! This sweet boy was born in May of 2015 and is still looking for a place to call his own. Oscar enjoys being around people, especially ladies, but he understands what it's like to need some space: your time, my time, and our time! Oscar experiences anxiety and because of this, boundaries are important to him. When his anxiety is low, Oscar is a goofy, playful boy who likes to chase balls, sticks, and rabbits. He loves, loves, loves long walks with plenty of time to let his hound nose get some exercise, and lots of exercise helps work off that extra energy that can make this handsome boy nervous! Because of his love for exploration, Oscar will need a fenced-in yard to keep him close to home.  Oscar is not kennel trained, but is totally fine being left to lounge around the house while you're away.  He's also housetrained, so no worries about that business! Oscar is a very smart dog who knows "sit", "stay", "lay down", "leave it" and he also knows that when he follows these fun words, he gets really yummy treats! Oscar's ideal home will be with an active person/couple who love to explore nature, just like he does, and who will love him like family while respecting his need for boundaries and independence! The suggested adoption donation for Oscar is $315.  We are a 501c3 organization which means that your donation may be TAX DEDUCTIBLE.  Your donation goes toward the high cost of veterinary care for our animals in rescue, as well as providing supportive services to animals in homes. Information about the adoption process:  All adoptions require a completed ADOPTION APPLICATION.  Once your application is approved, we will put you in touch with the dog’s foster to see if you and the pet are a good match.  If so, we will arrange a meeting for you and the pet.  The adoptions for all of our animals will take place in the Omaha, NE area and must be done by the adoptive family in person. We do not ship or deliver. Please Note:  We are a RESCUE, which is different from a shelter.  We conduct veterinary and personal reference checks during the application approval process. We always select the right applicant for each dog, based on the dog’s needs.  If you and the dog are not a good match, we will help you select another dog, or we will keep your approved application on file for 6 months. Story
Meet Fletcher: The Sweet, Soulful Snooze-Buddy You’ve Been Waiting For  If you’ve ever wished your dog came with a “deep thinker” setting, let us introduce Fletcher — a 5-ish-year-old German Shorthair Pointer with the calm dignity of a wise old professor… and the occasional goofy habit that reminds you he’s still very much a dog. Fletcher is a 60-lb sweetheart with eyes so soulful you may find yourself sharing your life story before you realize it. He’s quiet, gentle, and happiest when curled up next to you on the couch or bed while you read, watch TV, or ponder the meaning of life together. He’s a world-class snuggler and an A+ lounge companion. But don’t let his philosopher vibes fool you — he does have strong opinions. For example: He believes squirrels are untrustworthy and must be monitored at all times. He feels very strongly that small dogs might be suspicious until proven otherwise. He is pretty sure the neighbors walking their dogs past his house need a polite announcement (but he’ll settle down quickly if you reassure him they’re not invading). Fletcher gets along great with dogs his own size, and he lights up when meeting new people. Kids? Likely fine, though not officially tested. Cats? Absolutely not. Squirrels? Hard pass. Anything small and scurrying? Also no. Let’s just say he’s firmly Team “No Tiny Creatures in My Space. He’s not big on toys, but he will groan adorably when he’s tired, and he'll reluctantly tolerate the crate—even though he’s certain he has better places to be. He’s also working on perfecting indoor manners: keeping all four paws on the floor, resisting the siren call of the kitchen counter, and proving he is trustworthy without a belly band. (We’re not quite there yet, but he’s trying.) Despite a few quirks, Fletcher is truly a gentle, thoughtful, loving dog who wants nothing more than a calm home, a cozy couch, and a human who appreciates a good cuddle and a quiet companion. He’s loyal, affectionate, and has that special old-soul charm that makes you feel lucky just to share space with him. If you’re looking for a sweet, steady, deeply loving dog who will watch shows with you, nap beside you, and gaze into your soul like you’re the best thing that ever happened to him — Fletcher is your guy.   Fletcher is being fostered in Omaha, NE. Story
Adaline, named after The Age of Adaline, is a cautious but active German Shorthaired Pointer who is figuring out what life as a house dog looks like. She’s a classic velcro GSP and wants to be wherever her people are. If you’re home, she’s nearby. She does great in the car, enjoys investigating her surroundings, and is curious about everything going on in the house. Everyday noises like dishwashers and hair dryers are still surprising, but she’s handling them and learning as she goes. Adaline is kennel trained and potty trained. When she first arrived, she tended to pace and do laps around the kitchen island, which isn’t uncommon for dogs adjusting to indoor life. Keeping her close on a leash indoors has helped her settle, and she now relaxes enough to curl up for a snuggly nap. Personality and Behavior Adaline is friendly and social with new people. She’s excited to meet visitors but does not jump or show any aggression. She may bark briefly if she hears noises outside but is not overly vocal. She prefers not to go outside alone and is happiest when a human accompanies her. She goes potty and is ready to come right back inside. She isn’t especially toy motivated but really enjoys food puzzles and licky mats. Mental stimulation goes a long way with her. Training Notes Adaline is still learning basic household manners. She does not reliably respond to verbal commands yet but will come to a whistle and is learning her name. She understands “no” and is improving with counter surfing, though she has jumped onto counters and can clear a baby gate if motivated. She is not leash trained and currently pulls on walks, so a confident handler who is comfortable working on leash skills will be important. Background Adaline was rescued by the Council Bluffs Fire Department after falling through the ice in Lake Manawa. She is estimated to be about 4.5 years old. Her life before rescue is largely unknown. Foster Home Experience Adaline is being fostered in Lincoln, Nebraska and joined GPPR on January 26th. She has done very well with children ages 17, 15, and 8, as well as a resident 3-year-old GSP. She has shown no signs of aggression or resource guarding. She is comfortable in a kennel and may whine briefly when first crated but settles quickly. The Right Home Adaline will thrive in a home that understands the GSP breed and is patient with a dog still learning how to live indoors. She needs structure, supervision, and continued training, but she offers loyalty, affection, and a strong desire to be with her people. Story
Say hello to Reaux, a Pointer mix born July 2020. This cutie is looking for her very own home. Reaux loves to be the center of attention and when you are as cute as her, who can blame her? She loves to play outside chasing squirrels, so she would do best in a home with a fenced yard. She LOVES to have all the attention to herself, so she needs to be the only dog in the home. She does not get along with cats. She would enjoy kids that will play with her and help her try to catch those darn squirrels. Overall, Reaux is a very loving girl and cannot wait to find a home that is a perfect match for her! Reaux is kennel trained, will also sleep in dog bed on floor.  She does pretty good on walks, just a little anxious.  Good with bigger kids and adults, needs no other animals in home.   Only really barks to alert…to go inside, outside and while playing with us.   The suggested adoption donation for Reaux is $300. Muddy Paws is a 501c3 non-profit organization meaning that part of your donation MAY be TAX DEDUCTIBLE. We are a 100% volunteer rescue committed to giving animals a second chance at life. All donations go toward that mission. Adoption fees are the primary source of funding for the cost of veterinary care for our animals. In 2022 alone, we provided animal Healthcare totaling over $399,000 covered mainly through adoption fees.  Information about the adoption process: All adoptions require a completed ADOPTION APPLICATION. Once your application is approved, we will put you in touch with the animal’s foster to see if you and the pet are a good match. If so, we will arrange a meeting for you and the animal. Story
Hi! My name is Danica and I am a 2 year old (b. 2022) Pointer mix! I am a very cute girl who was rescued from my hometown in Houston, Texas. I only had minutes to spare when I was rescued, at risk of being euthanized any moment. I used to be a stray and wandered the streets of Houston, causing me to be positive for heartworm and being a mom to multiple puppy litters. But since being adopted, I was on meds (but to me they just taste like treats) to help me with my heartworm and I now feel like a new woman! I love being with my person, my foster mom calls me a Velcro Dog. I get a little nervous when apart from my person, so ideally I would love to live with someone who is home rather often and will want my company all day every day. I am a super sweet girl who just loves to lounge around with others and occasionally play with my foster brother. I am not a fan of being kenneled, but I am house trained. Please bring me into your loving home and you will receive all the love. The suggested adoption donation for Danica is $250, which includes a lifetime of free relationship-based training for any behavioral problems (not obedience training). Please Note: A Courtesy Post designates that an animal is still in the home of its owner and not in a Muddy Paws foster. This means that our exposure to the animal is limited since we are only assisting the owner in finding a new home for their pet. From time to time, owners find a new furever home for their pets outside of Muddy Paws Second Chance Rescue and there is a delay in removing them from our site. We apologize if the Courtesy Post you apply to adopt is unavailable for adoption. Information about the adoption process: All adoptions require a completed ADOPTION APPLICATION. Once your application has completed our prescreen steps, we will put you in touch with the animal’s foster to see if you and the pet are a good match. If so, we will arrange a meeting for you and the animal. The adoptions for all of our animals will take place in the Omaha, NE area and must be done by the adoptive family in person. We do not ship or deliver. Please Note: We are a RESCUE, which is different from a shelter. We conduct veterinary and personal reference checks, and a Home Visit (Virtual in some cases) during the application approval process. We always select the right applicant for each animal, based on the animal’s needs. If you and the animal are not a good match, we will help you select another animal, or we will keep your approved application on file for 6 months.
