Story
Welcome Oaks to CCPAL Rescue foster program. Oaks is a 1.5 year old German Short haired pointer and German Shepherd. He is about 48 pounds and a good weight. He is good in a car, potty trained, doggy door trained and lives with six children starting at age 2. He also lives with 6 other dogs and does fine. He would be great with a family and children would be fine. We like them to be 8 or older. He is smart, laid back, good with other dogs and bonds deeply to his family. He is a little timid with strangers but comfortable with his people. His foster family is going to start taking him places so he can get used to changes in environment and other people. He is smart but he doesn’t like to retrieve like his sister does. He is a nice dog and naturally a little protective to his family. He would be great with a family that the dad travels and he wants to feel that his family is safe and taken care of. He is a moderate shedding dog and with his long legs would be a great walking or jogging companion. He is neutered, healthy and getting his vaccinations and ready for his forever home. He is currently in Texas and can be adopted locally or we can work with one of the wonderful transporters to get him to Washington, Portland, Minnesota, Vermont or all along the East Coast. His adoption fee is $300 and transport is $200. Rhode Island and Massachusetts are not states we adopt to because of the regulations imposed by these states Contact Marlene at 210-867-1769 or email to ccpalinquiries@gmail.com if you have questions. Name: Canyon Age: Young DOB: 3/13/25 Gender: Male Breed: German Shorthair Pointer / Cattle Dog mix Weight: 62 lbs Dog Friendly: Yes Cat Friendly: Testing available upon request Child Friendly: Yes House Trained: Yes – puppy learning with routine Crate Trained: Yes Energy Level: Moderate Temperament: Energetic, sociable, friendly Home Requirements: Not apartment-appropriate; could be suitable for a duplex or condo Adoption Fee: $400 + tax To Adopt:  www.mendingspirits.org/apply-to-adopt.html From the Foster Family: Meet Canyon! Canyon has settled into foster life beautifully and quickly made himself at home with both his humans and the resident dog. From day one, he’s been confident, playful, and eager to bond—especially with his new canine best friend. The two love playing together, sharing toys, and even eating and drinking side by side with no issues. Canyon adores squeaky toys and anything with knots. Like most young pups, he’s still learning what’s appropriate to chew, but he redirects easily and is eager to please. He loves wearing his collar and going on leash walks and has already made impressive progress with his leash manners. During the day, Canyon enjoys relaxing and napping in his crate, and he sleeps there at night as well—especially if he can see his humans nearby for reassurance. Potty training is going very well, with only a few minor accidents as he continues learning his routine. Bath time was a breeze, and Canyon handled it like a champ. He’s also starting to learn basic commands like “sit,” and he’s picking things up quickly. One of his funniest quirks is his dislike of his reflection in the oven door—it never fails to get a laugh. Canyon does have a bit of a scavenger streak, so keeping counters clear is a must unless you want a snack to mysteriously disappear. Canyon is a sweet, adaptable, and social pup who will thrive in a home ready to continue his training, provide structure, and enjoy lots of love and playtime. About Me: I love playing with my new canine best friend! We chase each other, wrestle, and have the best time together. All the toys here are so fun, especially the squeaky ones. There’s this big white water bowl in the bathroom that I guess I’m not supposed to use, but when someone forgets to close the lid, I help myself anyway. My human keeps saying the word “sit,” then gently guides my rear to the floor and gives me a treat. I’m still a little confused, but I promise I’ll keep working on it!      December 28, 2025, 1:58 pm
