Story
Current Location: Catonsville, MD Patti is a cheerful, curious little dog with a soft heart and a cautious view of the world. She loves people, but she truly blossoms around other dogs. When she has canine friends nearby, her confidence grows fast. She watches them closely, copies what they do, and suddenly things like stairs or new spaces feel possible. Having another dog to learn from is not a bonus for Patti. It is essential. She enjoys exploring the yard, sniffing every corner, and then settling in for a long afternoon curled up on the couch watching TV. Her energy is nicely balanced. She likes playtime, short walks once she feels safe, and mental stimulation, but she also knows how to relax and rest. Patti does not like being alone. She will bark and cry if crated without a human nearby, though she will settle and sleep once she can see someone close. She does well sleeping in her crate overnight under those conditions. She will not potty in her crate, but she is still working on full house training and has had accidents when given too much freedom. For now, structure and supervision are key. She has lovely dog manners. Patti wants to play, but she listens when other dogs set boundaries and backs off politely. She would thrive with one or two playful, confident dog companions and a fenced yard where she can safely potty and burn energy. She is a digger and not ready to rely on leash walks alone. Leash training is very new for Patti. If pressure is applied, she freezes. She will need patient, positive training and time to build trust. She is also wary of direct approaches and being stood over, though she will allow handling once she feels safe. Her confidence is improving steadily, but she needs adopters who understand shy dogs and are willing to go slow. Patti is not food motivated, which makes training a bit different. Squeaky toys are her currency, and they work well as rewards. She has a strong interest in cats and wants to chase, so a cat free home is best, or a very experienced adopter committed to slow introductions and training. Because she startles easily, a home without small children is recommended. A calm, medium energy household with time, patience, and at least one friendly dog would be ideal. Patti has already made real progress in a short time. She is sweet, affectionate, and ready to be someone’s baby after a hard start in life. With the right home, guidance, and doggy role models, she will continue to grow into the confident, happy companion she wants to be.

PLEASE VISIT THIS WEBSITE TO FIND THE ADOPTION QUESTIONNAIRE: http://www.homewardtrails.org/adopt-a-pet/adoption-forms/ HOW TO MEET THIS ANIMAL: Fill out the application and we will follow up with you!  LOCATION: An amazing Foster home ADOPTION COORDINATOR: Sue, sueb@homewardtrail.org ADOPTION FEE: $595 ESTIMATE WEIGHT FULL GROWN: We estimate in the 50 lb range. ESTIMATED AGE: 3 months of age on 9/2/25 KNOWN WITH DOGS:  Buffy is great with other dogs and loves romping and playing with her resident foster dog sibling! We think she’ll do great with others! KNOWN WITH CATS: We do not know at this time but may be able to cat test if needed. KNOWN WITH KIDS: Buffy loves kids and is currently in a foster home with two young children, loving all their snuggles. She arrived quite shy but quickly settled in and took to the kids in the home easily!   KNOWN COMMANDS: She’s a new arrival so still working on these. Basic obedience training is a great way to get your new pup to learn all those commands! KNOWN HOUSEBREAKING AND/OR CRATING: Working on both. Doing well in the crate and learning to go outside, but at 3 mos old she’ll need some continued training to get perfect. KNOWN LIKES: Kids, playtime, toys, dogs, walks, naps, snuggles. KNOWN DISLIKES: No dislikes known at this time ABOUT THIS ANIMAL: Buffy found herself in a small rural shelter and out of time. We thankfully rescued her and got her into a safe, loving foster home where she doing wonderfully. Buffy is a typical puppy but starts out on the shy side – plays hard, sleeps hard. Loves to snuggle and play with her toys. Buffy will make an amazing family member and will enjoy an active adopter. She has been doing GREAT in foster but remains a bit shy. We are looking for a home with at least one other dog to help her continue her confidence. She also needs a house vs. apartment as loud city noises can spook her a bit. And small loud children will not be a fit. But she'll do great in a more quiet home with another dog and older kids/adults - she'll THRIVE! Story
Meet Max Lee!🐾 Max is a one-year-old terrier mix weighing about 9 pounds, and he’s as sweet as they come! This little guy has never met a stranger — he’s friendly with everyone he meets and just wants to be your best friend. Max loves attention, cuddles, and playtime in equal measure. He gets along wonderfully with other dogs and would be thrilled to have a playful fur sibling to romp around with. Max is also great with children and would make a wonderful addition to any family. Mealtime is his favorite part of the day (he’ll make sure you know when it’s dinner time!), and he’s mostly potty trained. He does well using pads if one is left out — though fair warning, he also thinks they make great toys if they’re not stuck down! Speaking of toys, Max is a little dog with a big love for play. His new family should be “toy rich,” because he can really put them to the test! When it’s time to wind down, Max sleeps beautifully in his kennel without making a peep — as long as he knows his people are close by. If you’re looking for a happy, affectionate, and playful pup who will fill your home with love and laughter, Max is your guy. 💛
