Story
Arnold “Schnauzer” – Comeback Kid Some heroes wear capes. Arnold Schnauzer is starting his comeback in a freshly shaved schnauzer coat. Arnold is a 5-year-old Schnauzer mix who was found in a backyard where he clearly hadn’t been fed regularly. When animal control rescued him, he was matted, filthy, and heartbreakingly thin — weighing just 11 pounds when he should be closer to 15–17. His coat had to be shaved down to the skin, revealing every rib and bone beneath. His skin was sore and his body fragile. But somehow… Arnold’s spirit never quit. Despite everything he endured, he is outgoing, playful, and incredibly trusting. Arnold greets the world with enthusiasm and believes every human deserves a generous helping of kisses. Now safe in foster care, Arnold has begun his comeback training plan: many small meals, probiotics, omega oils, and lots of TLC to help his body rebuild strength. Right now Arnold is working on his comeback — building muscle, gaining weight, and perfecting his very important skill of kissing every person he meets. He’s great with other dogs, crate trained, and already doing well with housetraining. Arnold has survived the hard part of his story — now he just needs someone to write the happy ending. And if you ask him about his future? He’ll tell you: “I’ll be back… for dinner.” Quick facts: • 5 years old • Schnauzer mix • Currently 11 lbs (goal weight 15–17 lbs) • Affectionate, playful, and resilient • Great with other dogs • Crate trained • Doing well with housetraining • Currently rebuilding strength in foster care Arnold doesn’t need a perfect home — just a loving one where the food bowl stays full and the kisses are returned. Arnold will be neutered as soon as his body can handle it. He is up-to-date on vaccines. The adoption fee for this dog is $425 which includes routine vetting and spay/neuter. PLEASE VISIT THIS WEBSITE TO FIND THE ADOPTION QUESTIONNAIRE: http://www.homewardtrails.org/adopt-a-pet/adoption-forms/ HOW TO MEET THIS ANIMAL: Fill out the application and we will follow up with you! We will connect you to his foster! LOCATION: Foster home ADOPTION COORDINATOR: Sue B (sueb@homewardtrails.org) ADOPTION FEE: The adoption fee for this dog: $595 ESTIMATE WEIGHT FULL GROWN: 65 lbs is our best guess ESTIMATED AGE: 7 months in Jan. 2026 KNOWN WITH DOGS: A typical puppy - friendly, outgoing, playful and curious. Loves other dogs so would do well in a home with another one…or can be an only pup if you promise to get him some friends! As Buffy is on the shy side she relishes the guidance of another dog! KNOWN WITH CATS: Her foster home has two cats. If the cats are calm, she is calm and just sniffs. She will often lay near a calm cat and do nothing at all. She will chase after them *playfully* if they run. She is learning. She has shown ZERO aggression towards them. KNOWN WITH KIDS: Great. She can be excited and jumpy sometimes – typical puppy behavior but does well with the kids in her foster home. KNOWN COMMANDS: Is learning lots – foster will gladly share with you all that she is learning! KNOWN HOUSEBREAKING AND/OR CRATING: She's doing excellent, very quiet in her crate. She knows when it s bed time. She often will just go in there for some quiet - though she also loves stretching out on the couch. She is also doing great in housebreaking, although a dog in any new environment may have accidents as they acclimate. KNOWN LIKES: Playing, treats, napping, chewing and romping in the sun. KNOWN DISLIKES: None know so far. ABOUT THIS ANIMAL: Buffy is an adorable girl who would love to finally find her adoptive home. She is great with kids and dogs and lives well with cats. She is on the shy side so a patient home without too much chaos would be ideal.
