Story
Sugar and spice and everything nice, that's what Poppy is made of!!! Yes, this precious 3 1/2 yr. old Female Golden Retriever is quite the beauty with a yen to learn and is treat motivated to do so. Poppy came into GREAT Rescue from an Amish Puppy Mill and lucky for her GREAT was able to find her an amazingly loving home and Mom who was willing, motivated and able to spend the time to bring Poppy full circle to being a better adjusted and amazing Golden Girl. Sadly, that Mom is now working outside of the home and with health issues presented by other family members, they feel it would be best for Poppy to join a new family who has one person, a lady, home most of the time. Because of her training, she is very attached to women and so a new Mom who is home and is willing to continue to spend the time and affection with Poppy is a must. She gets along very well with other dogs and would love to have a permanent large, well manner dog in her new life as well for a companion and playmate. Poppy is very well mannered in the home and is house trained but due to her early life, she does not do well in a crate. She enjoys running through puddles, fetching sticks and balls and is very treat motivated. She is frightened of thunderstorms and fireworks so some meds help her ease through those scary times. She enjoys long daily walks, car rides, seeing and playing with children, treats and romping with other dogs. She is a fast learner, loves learning new tricks and enjoys being trained. Her Mom says she might be a good therapy or service dog and would thrive with someone who enjoys training enrichment and maybe even dog sports or competition work too. Poppy knows commands such as sit, stay, leave it, go get it, break, spin, wait, lay down, roll over and go get your toy. She is a fun, sweet, loving dog to the humans she loves, loves exploring and chasing lizards too. She is not a good snuggler but loves being near the people she loves so a great companion for a lady who works from home. As you can see from her gorgeous picture, Poppy has earned her Canine Good Citizen award and she's looking mighty proud and beautiful displaying her well-earned ribbon. Poppy is current on all vaccines, is heartworm negative, spayed, weights 68 lbs. and is microchipped. Her new family should be a family with a lady who will assume her care and responsibility or a single lady who is home all day. A large, friendly, playful dog and fenced yard is a MUST and her new family must live in the Jacksonville area so she can receive training if needed during her transition. The new family must also have someone who can walk her daily and no children under 8 years old. Please be considerate and do not expect exceptions to be made to these criteria for her new home. If you feel you are the fortunate family to make Poppy their very own, please go to www.greatrescue.org to complete an adoption application or call 904-501-6899 or 904-703-8348 with Questions. This is one special girl and lucky the family who will call Poppy their very own!!

Story
I’m looking to rehome my 1-year-old mixed large breed dog due to an upcoming relocation. She is a loving, energetic girl who thrives on attention and companionship, and she deserves a home where she can get plenty of time and care. She is crate trained, good with kids, and gets along well with other dogs. She has a sweet temperament and would make a great addition to an active family or someone who can give her the love and consistency she needs. This decision hasn’t been easy, and my priority is finding her a safe, caring, and committed home.
