She is houstrained and walks great on a leash. Please call the shelter at (706) 795-2868 to schedule a meet and greet.Madison Oglethorpe Animal Shelter is a non-profit shelter serving over 720 square miles. We are open intake, meaning we can not turn away animals from either county we serve. Our shelter intakes double or triple it's capacity every month so it is essential we place animals quickly into adoptive homes. Since so many animals enter the shelter we often don't have enough volunteers to write an individual bio for each. Please feel free to call the shelter Wednesday-Sunday to inquire about the animal you are interested in. 706-795-2868.Viewing and adoption hours at our shelter are Wednesday through Sunday from 12 PM to 5 PM. All adoption fees include age-appropriate vaccinations, flea treatment, deworming, and spay or neuter, microchip, and adoption packet. Fees:Dogs over 6 months old: $100Puppies under 6 months: $200. We are located at:1888 Colbert Danielsville Rd Danielsville, GA 30633 706-795-2868NOTE: Our adoptions are first come first served, simply filling out an application does not mean the animal will be held for you, you must come meet the animal in person in order to be considered for adoption. If you rent you must bring your lease or a letter from your landlord stating you may adopt.

Story
We were so shocked and confused the morning we woke up to find 4 week old Reina had abruptly lost use of her rear legs. One of our Vets met us outside to exam her, fearing a highly contagious puppy disease. Multiple test were performed. We were being prepared for the worst while we waited for results. As test results came in negative the doctors remained perplexed and confused. Especially when her sister Cheyenne presented the same symptoms except much milder (she is expected to make a full recovery). Reina started to withdraw and tried to hide. Her body becoming more rigid as she became inactive. Her Vet discussed quality of life with us. Saying they would support our decisions every step of her journey.  Reina did not appear to be in physical pain. Her appetite was always good and she is not incontinent. The rescue agreed we should enroll the girls in Rehabilitation therapy. To give them an opportunity to learn early in life to manage their unique abilities.  After 8 full day therapy sessions Reina is moving her body much more freely. She loves playing in leaves with her sisters, chewing pine cones and sharing sticks. Sitting on the raised ground under the trees playing queen of the hill with her siblings. Her name means Queen and is very appropriate for her.  Reina is absolutely beautiful. She has a delightfully expressive face and eyes. Her perky ears are adorable. She loves playing with other dogs and keeps up with them remarkably well. It's is incredibly inspiring to watch her grow and learn how to manage and maneuver her body. Reina is happy, sweet, affectionate and learning to love belly rubs. She is a joy and loads of fun too. A very special little lady.   We are hoping for an adopter that has experience with paralyzed dogs and wheelchair training. Dirt Road Doggie's Rescue will remain available to assist in helping meet Reina's needs. This precious girl is displaying the strength, determination, spirit and spunk needed to do remarkable things and achieve incredible results!  Reina is Lab/Golden Retriever/Shepherd(?)mix.  Lovingly fostered in Rutledge Ga ##2008216##

Story
Meet Sandy! Sandy is a total lovebug and oh so sweet. She loves playing with her plushies, chasing a ball, and rolling in the grass. She also enjoys afternoon naps and a laid-back lifestyle. Sandy walks well on a leash and wants to please.  Sandy was found a few months ago by wonderful & caring family. It’s believed she was dumped on their road as her family was never found and she was not chipped. Poor girl was severely malnourished, weak and very shy/submissive. Today Sandy is healthy, confident, beautiful, happy. smart and ready for her forever family. She is current on vaccinations and will be spayed & microchipped soon. We’re hoping to find a foster to adopt family to take her through her spay and teach basic commands and give her time to learn a routine. She is good with other dogs. Has not been tested with cats. A fenced backyard is a must. We don’t think Sandy was allowed in the house in her previous life and may have had free roam of a yard. Sandy is a good dog and going to make a terrific companion for someone that doesn’t mind putting in a little work. She is definitely worth it!! ##2034245##

Story
Apply here: http://athenscaninerescue.com/adoption-procedures/ PLEASE READ BEFORE APPLYING. PLEASE NOTE THAT DALLY CANNOT HAVE "FREE" ACCESS TO ANY SOURCES OF FOOD OR WATER. Welcome Dally! This beautiful girl was little more than skin and bones when she joined our program, but now she’s a “giant goober” (per foster mom; and yes, that’s the technical term, of course) who is loving life and living it to the fullest. Dally has mega esophagus, which means that without the help of gravity and some time spent upright after eating or drinking, she will regurgitate anything she consumes. We’ve got her outfitted with a special throne (okay, chair, whatever) for mealtimes now and she has steadily gained weight and is learning how to be a dog. (She also likes to put herself into the chair anytime she thinks she should get a snack. Hey, Mom. Mom! Mom! I’m in the chair! Feed me!!) She gets medication twice a day and needs to use her chair for meals, but other than that, she’s healthy and and a typically developing dog. At just over a year and technically still a puppy, Dally has proven to be smart and quick to learn the rules! She is fully housebroken, keeps her crate clean all night long, and will reliably “sit” or “leave it” upon command. Dally lives with humans of all ages, other dogs, cats, and has been around farm animals. No worries, she loves them all! Everyone is very exciting and a potential new BFF. She is still learning her own size and how to calm down, so while she loves everyone and everything, her exuberance could be a touch overwhelming for other small creatures. Currently she is learning to listen to the corrections of the cats in her household, because although they’re super fun to chase, sometimes they would like her to stop. Again, she’s still young, so we expect with consistent training she will settle down a bit. Foster mom describes Dally as the perfect combination of loving everyone yet not being needy or clingy. Do you want to play with her? Right on! Just want her to settle down a bit? She’s happy to just snuggle in nearby. She “talks” to her humans, using a variety of sounds that are hilarious. Dally is down for new adventures and Netflix binges, alike. Currently she enjoys a couple of short walks each day. She will not be well-suited to super long excursions, especially in warmer weather, as dehydration is a concern (and taking her chair on a hike would be… awkward). But she’s ready to meet new friends, explore new toys, and says that sometimes slowing down a bit is how you savor the good stuff. Don’t dilly-dally; contact us today about meeting Dally! If you’d like to be considered to adopt, the first step in the process is to submit an application through our website: http://athenscaninerescue.com/adoption-procedures/. Our adoption fee is $250 per dog over the age of 6 months and $300 per dog 6 months or younger. We accept payment by Venmo, PayPal, or card. This includes: basic vet care (i.e. basic vaccinations, including boosters completed after adoption, spay/neuter, heartworm/flea preventatives, and treatment for any health needs while in our care), a microchip, a week’s worth of food for the trial-period, and a harness lead. All in state applications will be considered with some preference given to more local applications. WE ARE NOT ACCEPTING OUT OF STATE APPLICATIONS FOR DOGS SIX MONTHS OR YOUNGER. We do not have a facility and operate through a network of foster homes. Thus, we do not have a phone number. If you’d like to discuss potential adoptions, please email at adopt@athenscaninerescue.com.
