Story
ATTENTION: Please read! I am not your typical lazy golden! This is a write up from our canine behavior consultant who fostered Hank for a couple days. Kennel staff will be taking applications on me and picking the most appropriate home.Calling all of my ACTIVE Golden lovers!Hank (2 year old neutered male) is fostering with me for a short while because his anxiety in the shelter was causing him to become destructive to his crate and housing (he broke a tooth breaking out of a crate). With me he has been able to be crated overnight and during the day really well! He did a bit of a crash course in crate training coupled with LOTS of exercise (he got on the Border Collie Exercise Regime) and that has him behaving like an absolute gentleman. Hank is fantastic with all dogs, including my intact males, and has loved every human he has met in true Golden fashion. He is confident and comfortable in all environments so far and doesn't have any nervousness or skittishness. Although he does have a prey drive and cannot live with cats or small dogs. He has a gorgeous athletic structure and moves beautifully (and quickly). Nice balance and light on his feet. He's at a nice light weight right now which helps of course! Hank has a high toy drive, retrieves beautifully, and enjoys swimming and retrieving his toys from the water as well! He has medium food drive. Between his athletic structure and toy drive I think he would be a fantastic sport or volunteer-level detection candidate. Hank NEEDS high-quality exercise to be functional. He hikes well with my guys off leash and comes when called! He's a joy to trail run with and sticks around naturally. BUT this is not a dog who will do well with neighborhood leash walks and a class or trial on weekends. He needs a daily dose of off-leash trail time or a good run, approx. 60 mins minimum, to meet his needs. Training on top of that makes him super happy! But training and toy play does not replace his decompression exercise, and if all you do is adrenalizing work with him, house life becomes harder for him. When Hanks needs are met, he is fantastic!! I can't stress enough how EASY he is with my pack, crating during the day and overnight, and travelling in the car to my various dog adventures. The BC life suits him ?? But if his needs are chronically not met he WILL become destructive in the home (which was the original reason for surrendering him to the shelter).Dogs: Large dogsCats: NoKids: 5+Weight: 63
