Story
Lucky is not squandering the luck that brought him to CAP for the second time after his owner's personal problems prevented her from taking care of him. He is a social butterfly, but only around other dogs. He wants to play with dogs he meets during walks and at the dog park. He relaxes the most when other canines are close by but is picky about his friends so you'll need to bring your dog to meet him. People he does not know scare him. He is timid at first but oh so loving when he gets to know you. He loves to be petted and sit on a lap. He needs an owner with a lot of patience and understanding to give him time to flourish in a loving home. He weighs 36 pounds and is very active. He likes running, tugging, walks, water, and car rides but it may take some time to get him into the car. He is picky about his toys and prefers hard ones. He only got into trouble for begging and racing out the door. He knows the come and no commands. He spent his days outside so he's not a pro with house training. Please be patient when you train him. He can be well behaved on a leash but may pull or jump sometimes. Because of his timidity, he'll need to live in a home with kids at least 15 years old. He is quiet and shy but protective of his family. Please offer lovable Lucky the home, family and security he needs. Story
Oreo weighs 58 pounds. He thinks he's small. He's wrong. Don't tell him. He is excitable and loves to jump up. He is affectionate, needy, and doesn't want to be alone. He knows the sit, stay, come, no, down, and paw commands. He is house trained, always had free roam of the house, and is used to being crated four to six hours a day. When he needs to go out, he'll whimper or bop you with his nose. Hopefully he won't knock you over. He has experience with kids as young as six and is submissive, friendly, playful, and jumpy. He sometimes play rough and other times is gentle. Because of his tendency to use his mouth and his rowdiness, he would be better with older children. Needless to say he has more energy than he knows what to do with. He likes car rides, running, toys, walks, water and chase. He is extremely rough on toys because of his love of chewing. Sturdy toys, please. He got into trouble for chewing, digging, jumping on furniture, begging, and opening gate latches. He hopes you are up to the challenge. In return, he promises to be totally lovable. He is not a leash walking pro and wants to lead and occasionally jump. He is cautious and dominant around cats. He is playful, cautious, rough, submissive, and even dominant around other dogs. You'll need to bring your dog to meet him to be sure they get along. He wants to rough house with dogs he meets during walks and at the dog park. Please offer loving, eager-to-please Oreo the home, family, and exercise he needs. (tw 5/29/2024)

Story
Remi is just an older pup who doesn't know much about good doggie manners but he is excited and eager to learn. He is happy to see humans, happy to see dogs, just happy in general. He already weighs 28 pounds and plans to be a big boy. He is starting to learn about leash walking but knows nothing about house training. He is jumpy, playful and active. He loves to run and climb. He is interested in toys but has no clue what to do with them. He is submissive, quiet, and curious. We don't know how he'll behave around children but he loves everyone. He can be nippy so he'll need to live with kids at least 13 years old until he gets some obedience training under his belt. He used to live with his sister and was pretty rough during play so if you have a dog, you should bring it to meet him to be sure they are compatible. He has enjoyed rough housing with some of his shelter friends. He likes being on a lap and being petted. Please offer Remi the home and family he deserves. (tw 2/1/2024)Foster update: Remi now weighs 36 pounds. He gained experience in interacting with other dogs and is easygoing, friendly, playful, and respectful. He even shares his food and treats with them. He has learned the come command. He is still very active and will now need to live with kids at least six years old (instead of 13). Story
Duke is a happy go lucky guy who is always ready for the next adventure. He arrived at the shelter in December 2023 and was adopted. But he was given up after only a few weeks because of landlord issues. His previous family wanted him to get a good home because they really loved him. He weighs about 30 pounds and will continue to grow and be bigger.Since then, Duke has been at the shelter and in a foster home. In his foster home He lived with 2 other dogs (60lbs and 30lbs) and tried to play with them. He is crate trained and rarely barks. He is leash trained and well behaved on walks. He does get excited when he sees squirls and birds and may pull a bit. He had 3-4 walks a day and let outside regularly to play in the yard. He hasn't had any accidents outside of his cage in the house. He paces around and goes to the door when he needs to go out. Duke stayed in his crate overnight and when no one was home or could not watch him. Otherwise, he was in the room inside with people. In his previous adopter's home Duke amazed his family with how fast he learned. They said he is already house trained and was allowed to have free roam of the house. In spite of being a puppy, he only got into trouble once at his adopter's home. He broke a picture frame and was very sorry. He is active as well as calm and likes car rides, fetch, running, and toys. He can be a bit possessive of his food (with other dogs, not people). But he listens well when he is told to stay while preparing food. He takes treats gently from people and is improving with other dogs too. His foster mom feeds all 3 dogs treats together. Duke eats in his cage or in another room at mealtime. At the shelter he plays with other dogs in playgroups and can play rough. If you have another dog, you'll need to bring it to meet him to be sure they get along. He is easygoing, friendly, and playful with young children and has experience with children as young as 3 years old. His puppy energy and tendencies during play make him more suitable to older kids until he gets some more training under his belt. He'll need to live with kids at least six years old for now. He is affectionate and loves sitting on a lap and being petted. Please offer lovable Duke the home and family he needs. (wm, tw 5/7/2024)Duke may be staying at the shelter or in his foster home. Story
Comet is a happy girl who thinks being in a shelter is a big adventure but she has been ready for a home for a long time. She has already spent half of her life at CAP. She spent some time in a foster home where she lived with a cat and a dog. She loves playing with the dogs and is figuring out when the other dog is saying "no, time for a break." She doesn't chase the cat and just watches. She demonstrated how smart she is and that she learns quickly. You won't believe how fast this girl can sit! Especially if treats are headed her way. She made progress with her house training but can't practice what she learned in a shelter environment. Please be patient as you remind her how it works. She likes car rides, running, tugging, toys, walks, jumping, climbing, cuddling with her people and relaxing in front of TV. She weighs 47 pounds, has a lot of energy but is not hyper. She was originally a stray and has not had a chance to perfect good doggie manners yet but a little training will go a long way. She is a work in progress. Because of her tendence to nip when she gets excited during walks, she'll need to live in an adult-only home. Please offer friendly Comet the home, family and training she needs. Please contact her foster at tnieves@cap4pets.org for additional details about Comet, and you'll be happy with what you'll find out. Story
Christy is a gentle, affectionate girl who likes being petted and getting lots of belly rubs. When she needs to burn some energy (and she has a lot!) she likes car rides, fetch, running, tugging, toys, and walks. She is a zoomie queen. She enjoys leading while on a leash and is curious about everything. She is quite the jumper and can jump 3-foot fences. At the shelter, she can easily jumpy 4-foot walls so no telling how high this athletic girl can go if given the chance. She was found as a stray and her finder, after eight days, said that she is house trained. She goes to the door when she needs to go out. She weighs 47 pounds and plans to keep growing. She is friendly and playful with other dogs but has no experience with children that we know of. She knows the sit, come, and fetch commands. She is mischievous and got into trouble by chewing, digging, racing out the door, jumping on furniture, and jumping those challenging fences. Please offer this lovable social butterfly the home and family she deserves.
