Story
Hi… my name is Freddy. I’m just over three years old, and if you’re reading this, I’m hoping—really hoping—you might be the person who finally takes me home. You see, I’ve been waiting for a long time. I don’t remember much about being a tiny puppy, except that I was picked up as a stray. I guess nobody came looking for me. I started out at a rescue that mostly helped smaller dogs, and well… I didn’t stay small for long. I kept growing and growing (and growing!) until it was clear I needed a new place that could handle a big guy like me. That’s how I ended up here at Central Arizona Animal Rescue. I’ve been here for over two and a half years now. That’s almost my whole life. At first, everyone thought I might be some kind of shepherd mix. But then I just kept getting taller and bigger and stronger. These days, they’re pretty sure I’ve got some Great Dane in me. I don’t exactly know what that means—but I do know it means I’m big, I’m goofy, and sometimes I forget just how strong I am. One of my very favorite things in the world is playing ball. If you’ve got one, I’m your guy. I’ll chase it, bring it back (most of the time), and be ready to go again before you’ve even caught your breath. When it’s hot outside—because, well, Arizona—I love sitting right in my water tub. Not next to it. Not near it. In it. It cools me down and makes me feel pretty happy. I like other dogs too… as long as they respect my food. I’ve spent most of my life making sure I keep what’s mine, so I just need a little space around mealtime. That’s okay, right? We all have our boundaries. People, though? I love people. I get so excited I’ll sneak up behind you and slide right between your legs. It’s kind of my thing! But… I should probably warn you—I’m big enough that if you’re not ready, I might just lift you up a little without meaning to. I promise I’m not trying to knock you over. I’m just really, really happy to see you. I don’t bark much. Actually, I’m pretty quiet most of the time. So if I do bark, you might want to listen—I usually have a good reason. Now, I’ll be honest with you about something. I’ve lived my whole life in a kennel. I’ve never been part of a family, never lived in a house, never had my own bed in someone’s room. So I have some things to learn. I might not understand all the “rules” right away. And sometimes, if I get bored, I might chew on things I shouldn’t. Strong chew toys? Those would be amazing. I do know how to walk on a leash, but I’m strong. Like… really strong. So I’ll need someone who can guide me and show me the way, instead of the other way around. With a little patience and consistency, I know I can learn. I want to learn. I’m already neutered, up to date on all my vaccinations, and I even have a microchip—so I’m completely ready to go home. I just need someone to say yes. If you’ve got room in your life for a big, loving, slightly clumsy, water-loving, ball-chasing guy… I promise I’ll give you my whole heart. Maybe for the first time ever, I can finally know what it feels like to belong. If you think that might be you, please email mike@caaronline.org to set up a time to meet me. I’ll be waiting. PLEASE e-mail (do not call) mike@caaronline.org for more information and to set up an appointment to adopt. Do not e-mail us with a request to call you, if you have a question, please ask in the e-mail.   All dogs are adopted on a first come - first served basis. Story
Timber is a handsome five-year-old neutered mantle Great Dane who came into the care of Big Hearts for Big Breeds alongside his younger brother, Oak. Though they are from different litters, they shared a home and were surrendered when their family was no longer able to care for them — a difficult transition that has led to a new opportunity for a loving future. Timber is a gentle, more reserved boy who takes a moment to settle in, but once he does, his sweet and affectionate nature shines through. He is great with people, does well with kids, and gets along nicely with other dogs. He has also been around chickens successfully, though pigs are not a good fit for him. His compatibility with cats is currently unknown. Timber is currently adjusting well in his foster home and continues to build confidence each day. While he and Oak share a past, they are in separate foster homes and are doing well independently, so they do not need to be adopted together. With a little patience and a lot of love, Timber will make a deeply loyal and devoted companion. If you’re looking for a kind-hearted Great Dane who will quietly become your shadow, Timber may be your perfect match.

Story
Yuma is a handsome 5-year-old Great Dane in the care of Big Hearts for Big Breeds, and he’s the kind of gentle soul who quietly wins your heart. Neutered, potty trained, and kennel trained, Yuma is a well-mannered boy who does well with other dogs and children. Yuma can be a bit shy at first, preferring to observe and take things in until he knows he’s safe. Once that trust is built, his sweetness shines through — a calm, affectionate Great Dane who simply wants a soft place to land and a family who will offer patience, kindness, and consistency. Yuma is ready for a loving home where he can finally relax and be cherished for the wonderful dog he is.

Story
Stone is a stunning three-year-old neutered harlequin Great Dane who joined Big Hearts for Big Breeds in search of the forever family he deserves. With his striking coat and soulful eyes, this gentle giant turns heads — but it’s his loyal, loving nature that truly makes him special. Stone does well with cats and enjoys the company of other dogs. He can be a bit dominant with male dogs, so thoughtful introductions and continued structure are important. He would thrive in a home with a confident canine companion. Because he has only been around teenagers and older, Stone is seeking a home with kids 12 and up. Stone is kennel trained and does well with routine. He experiences some mild anxiety, so he will do best in a household where people aren’t gone for long stretches and where he has another dog for companionship and reassurance. With consistency, patience, and love, Stone settles in beautifully and forms deep, devoted bonds with his people. At Big Hearts for Big Breeds, we know giant-breed dogs like Stone flourish when given stability and understanding. If you’re looking for a breathtaking harlequin Great Dane who will be your loyal shadow and steady companion, Stone may be the perfect addition to your family.

Story
Pearl is a stunning blue Great Dane, around 10 years old, currently in the care of Big Hearts for Big Breeds. As a senior, Pearl is settling into rescue life and discovering the comfort and stability she deserves, one day at a time. Pearl is potty trained, kennel trained, and does well in the car and on leash. She’s wonderful with children and gets along well with other large dogs, but she would do best in a home without cats or small dogs. Pearl is looking for a peaceful, loving home where she can enjoy her golden years surrounded by kindness, comfort, and understanding. If you’re searching for a loyal, steady companion with a soft heart and soulful eyes, Pearl may be the perfect addition to your family.
