Story

Maya found herself in the riverside animal shelter very pregnant. She had her 12 puppies in the shelter, where sadly 4 passed away. Her and her remaining 8 puppies were placed into foster care within 24 hours, and thats where we started to see jsut how sweet Maya was. She was extremely thin, and we had a battle to get weight back on her, but she is a very healthy lady now! Maya is a big girl and is still learning that. Sometimes I wonder if Maya believes in her sould she is only 3 pounds, no 115. Her zoomies are wild, fast, and we encourage her forever family to always be ready to "brace" as she goes flying by. She loves attention, has the "dane lean" down to an art, and (though we are trying to break this habbit) loves to give hugs to anyone who makes eye contact with her. Maya is good with other dogs although she can be a bit selective at first She walks well on a leash, though it does need to be noted she needs a figure 8 or gentle leader to make walks managable. (We will teach you, its very easy) Maya is house trained, crate trained, and loves to play in water. She is NOT a fan of horses, small animals that move fast, or birds... She is currently living in the country, and LOVES to run around. Maya is an active dane, so her forever family needs to have a large yard to be committed to walks. She is living around two small children, and is very good with them, HOWEVER she is not aware of her size, and will knock kids over. I also don't think I trust her totally with food and small kids... Honestly, this girl has seen a lot of hard days in her short 2(ish) years of life. She was likely used for breeding, and has barrier issues if someone knew approaches. She needs work, and she needs a family willing to put the work in. It isn't hard work, but you need to understand that she isn't a polished pup, YET! Give her food, belly rubs, and structure, and I promise you this girl will be your loyal companion for the rest of her days. Thank you for wanting to adopt from Hank's Legacy Foundation.
