Story
Pearl - A 132 pound baby!!!! We are looking for a home with experience when it comes to guardian breeds and lots of land. She is a Central Asian Shepherd. She is great when meeting new people but meeting new dogs so far hasn’t gone as we hoped. We are opening up adoptions for her at this time to homes with no other dogs. We will be working with her more as we do believe her to be dog friendly but her protective nature doesn’t make for a great first impression and at 132 pounds we currently don’t have any other dogs that are exactly excited to meet her either. She is an absolute love. She enjoys scratches and has a playful personality when she’s comfortable with you. She’s impressive and intelligent and can hear a dog or car coming minutes before we or any of the other dogs even realize they’re there. She has amazing potential and we are excited to find her a home of her own to love and protect. If you have any questions or are interested in meeting one of the dogs or cats for adoption, please TEXT us at 661-839-2200. We are located in southern California (Antelope Valley)

Story
Astrid is a LARGE Armenian Gampr weighing in at a healthy 160 pounds. At 3 years old, Astrid is still a puppy at heart and seems to be unaware of her larger than life size. More often than not she can be found lost in her own world, running around, jumping in the air trying to catch some wind under her paws. Astrid must have a vivid imagination as she loves to just hang out on her own, keeping herself entertained. She enjoys simple things like a dip in the kiddie pool and a fluffy squeaky toy. Astrid would like to find a home where she can have all the attention to herself with no other animals. She may get along with other humans 16 and older. She would like a home with a large yard and high secure fencing. An owner willing to invest in training her to be well behaved is a requirement. My adoption comes with a free month of training from GoodPup.com to ease me into my new home and help me bond with my new family.

Story
Blankie was surrendered to us because his family was moving to an apartment and could not bring Blankie with them. Blankie grew up with a 4 year old and he has proved to be a somewhat gentle giant but still acts like a puppy at times. If he were to go to a family with kids they will be required to meet Blankie before we can approve and adoption. Furthermore, Blankie will need a home with access to a medium to large sized yard so he can stretch his very long legs (also 6` secure fencing is a must). Blankie grew up as the only animal in the household, however we have carefully socialized him with dogs here at the shelter. We believe he prefers female dogs that can handle him playing rough and rowdy but don`t try to overcorrect him.Blankie is extremely sweet and affectionate, he loves being pet and getting scritches once he has done a patrol of the play yard. He will need a minimum of 45 mins-1 hr of exercise everyday. He is a very strong boy and will need a strong owner as well as someone patient enough to put some work into training him. Blankie was kept as a backyard dog so he will need to be acclimated to being in a home with a family as well as will need to be potty trained.Blankie LOOOOOOOVES WATER and can frequently be found playing and sliding around in a kiddie pool in our play yard. He would prefer an adopter who is willing to provide this water time for him rather than someone who would try to break him and water up.My adoption comes with a free month of training from GoodPup.com to ease me into my new home and help me bond with my new family.

Story
Helena has a big heart and a big body! Haha!! We assume she is an Anatolian Shepherd/Armenian Gampr. This site does not have that as a breed option. Best as the only dog. Helena was surrendered while in labor and required emergency surgery to deliver the puppies. The people that “owned” her claimed to not have any money for vet care and were driving around with her in the car for hours looking for a vet to do the surgery for free. Finally they ended up at an emergency hospital that knew our friends at HOPE FOR PAWS and they agreed to help with the surgery only if they surrendered the dog to them. They surrendered her and then had the nerve to ask if they could leave a $1,000 deposit for one of the male puppies! Some people are amazing! Of course we would not adopt to them! Helena was so neglected! She had a prolapsed vagina that they said had been that way for “a few months” and they never got her medical care. She was extremely dirty, under weight and she’s lucky she survived! She was too weak to nurse the puppies so they were bottle fed.

Story
Meet Kona! A majestic 4-year-old Anatolian Shepherd hailing from Altadena, California, but with a heart eager to find a new home, no matter where it may be! Kona is a spirited companion who finds joy in the simple pleasures of life: chewies, balls, leisurely walks, and the exhilaration of a good run. Her loyalty knows no bounds as she faithfully trails her loved ones and luxuriates in the comfort of a lounge chair for her well-deserved rest. In her quest for a new abode, Kona seeks a tranquil environment where she can thrive with understanding and compassion, fostering her need for independence. While she may display territorial aggression in the familiar confines of her home, Kona reveals her friendly nature in neutral spaces like boarding facilities. Her only anxiety stems from unfamiliar voices intruding upon her sanctuary, making her yearn for a household that cherishes privacy and limits visitors. Despite her formidable demeanor, Kona possesses a gentle disposition toward young children and exudes boundless energy, making her an ideal playmate for an active family. Her crate-trained manners, up-to-date vaccinations, spaying, microchipping, and impeccable house training attest to her readiness to embark on a new chapter in life! However, prospective caretakers should be prepared for Kona's strong-willed nature, requiring a confident handler to guide her with patience and firmness. A fenced yard offers the perfect setting for her to explore and expend her considerable vigor safely. Also, Kona is open to a long-distance adoption—love knows no distance when finding your perfect companion! For those captivated by Kona's charm and eager to offer her a loving home, inquiries can be directed to adopt@joyfulpets.com. Learn more about this extraordinary canine companion and discover the joys of welcoming Kona into your family!
