Story
This is Skyla, a 3-year-old Great Dane. She was living in a home with 2 other Great Danes. Owner let her get pregnant and she had puppies, and since then she does not get along with the other female Dane in the house, so the owners decided to rehome Skyla. Skyla is house-trained, current on vaccinations and now spayed. She is good with people and children. She loves going for walks and car ride. She understands “wait”, “no”, “food”, “treat”, “sit”, and sometimes “stay”. She loves being with her “humans” and, like a typical Dane, enjoys her naps. Skyla needs to be the only dog in the house. If interested in giving Skyla a new home, please go to our website and fill out the adoption application. www.pawsofaustin.org

Story
Meet Boone – A Gentle Soul Ready for a Fresh Start Boone is a striking Great Dane and Black Mouth Cur mix at 65 pounds with soulful eyes and a quiet, thoughtful demeanor. Rescued after being abandoned on the roadside, Boone's past suggests he was used as a hunting dog and likely spent much of his life confined to a kennel. This history has left him shy and cautious at first, but with time, patience, and kindness, Boone reveals his deeply affectionate side. Once he begins to trust, Boone becomes a devoted companion who craves gentle affection and enjoys peaceful moments with his person. He thrives in a calm environment and takes comfort in the presence of other dogs—he gets along wonderfully with canine companions and would benefit from a home with another friendly dog to help boost his confidence. Currently being fostered in Seguin, TX, Boone is looking for a foster or forever home in Central Texas only. He needs a loving, understanding family who can help him continue to blossom at his own pace. His ideal adopter would be someone familiar with hounds or someone who appreciates the gentle, loyal nature of these incredible breeds. If you're a hound enthusiast or simply someone with a kind heart and a quiet home, Boone may be the perfect match for you. He’s not just looking for a home—he’s looking for someone who sees his potential and will offer the love and patience he’s never known before. Boone is ready to start again. Story
Breaker is up for adoption in TX, NE and PNW (excluding MA)! Breaker is a 1-year-old, 65-pound Great Dane/Boxer mix with a heart as big as his goofy grin. This splash-happy pup LOVES the water—whether he’s chasing toys into the pool, splashing through a creek, or just romping around the yard, Breaker is always up for adventure. With the playful energy of a Boxer and the gentle, loyal nature of a Dane, he’s the best of both worlds—equal parts fun and affection. Breaker is dog-friendly (with pups his size), loves people, and is happiest when he’s part of the action. He’s making great progress with crate training and is learning his puppy manners, especially when treats are involved. Breaker wasn't given much structure as a pup so, Breaker sometimes tries to play bite to get his way. Even after a board-and-train program, he will need a family committed to consistent, positive reinforcement training to help him reach his full potential. Breaker would thrive in an active home with space to play and maybe even a doggy sibling to share his adventures with. If you’re looking for a loyal, silly, water-loving companion who will keep you laughing and fill your days with joy, Breaker is your guy! To see more pictures and videos, copy and paste this link. To apply directly for Breaker click the "Apply for Adoption" button. https://www.shelterluv.com/embed/animal/FODS-A-576 All our dogs come with 30 days of free post-adoption support through Petcademy.org. Super sweet young Great Dane mix! Although he’s mostly Dane! Not sure on his other breeds. Adopted from a shelter and his needs have surpassed our ability. Has been around kids of all ages and loves them! He does great with other dogs and loves the dog park! Would love to sit by your desk and chill with you or go on fun hikes and adventures! He’s up for anything in between! We are unable to keep him because our child had an unknown dog allergy and after over a year of trying to make things work it hasn’t gotten any better!

Story
Smithers is a gentle sweetheart with the softest expression and an even softer personality. She’s a bullmastiff mix, and her calm, snuggly nature makes her an instant favorite with everyone she meets. She can be a tiny bit shy at first, but it doesn’t take long for her to warm up — especially if you offer a lap to lean on or some gentle pets. Once she knows you’re kind, she relaxes completely and shows her sweet, affectionate side. If you’re looking for a young, loving companion who just wants a person to trust and grow with, Smithers might be your perfect match.

Story
Hit the trail with Oatmeal a sweet 4-year-old wheelie dog shepherd, Anatolian mix currently at Austin Pets Alive! She is a calm and gentle creature with a weakness for pets and treats. Her love for cuddles is bound to warm your heart. She is also a social bug who loves a crowd. She is an exceptional pup and a staff favorite at Austin Pets Alive!. Not a lot is known about Oatmeal's past life, but we know she arrived at APA! with a chronic spinal injury that led to paralysis in her hind legs. However, she is resilient and doesn't let her paralysis stop her from living her best life. Oatmeal is a very chill dog who enjoys toys, walks, and cuddles. She also loves meeting people of all ages and has the potential to live with another dog. Taking care of Oatmeal does not cause much trouble; she just needs some help going potty. This is a straightforward technique that can be taught quickly. She also uses a wheelchair to go on walks, but using a sling to pick up her hind legs and place them in the chair makes this process smooth and easy. An ideal home for her would be one where she can easily enter and exit with her wheels and navigate by scooting around without risking getting injured or falling. Having designated areas for her would be preferred while she becomes accustomed to the new environment. Oatmeal is a member of the exclusive Ruff Tail Runners, a group of dogs trained to walk or run on Lady Bird Lake. This little off-campus activity allows these dogs to get a nice break from their kennels and showcase them in front of many trailgoers to help them get adopted. During her trail walks, Oatmeal loves to sniff around and engage in her favorite sport, squirrel-watching, which she's quite proficient at. She is an excellent reminder of resilience and willpower. Nothing can stop this sweet pup from sharing her love with everyone, no matter how tough things might get, motivating everyone around her to keep pushing in whatever challenge they may face Oatmeal is ready to "roll out" of the shelter in her pink wheelchair and into a loving home. If you'd like to foster or adopt Oatmeal or any of our adorable adoptable pets, visit our website, austinpetsalive.org, or come in person at 1156 W Cesar Chavez near downtown Austin. Oatmeal was also recently featured in Austin Fit Magazine! https://www.austinfitmagazine.com/October-2024/pet-of-the-month-oatmeal/

Story
KJ is well socialized, gentle and a joy to be with. He is housebroken and will sit on request. This includes waiting for his supper. His favorite toy is a large knotted rope. He loves to play fetch. He will also be happy to sit in a corner and chew on his toy until he falls asleep. He often takes naps with his paw on his toy; it’s adorable! On walks, he is very polite and has good leash-manners. But he also still has a lot of puppy playfulness in him. He will do that puppy bow and invite you to chase him or play with him. He will be a great companion for a person or family looking for a playful dog wanting to go on adventures or keep up with an active household. Meet this perfect boy while you still have the chance before he gets adopted!
