Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. Online Adoption Application › Hi, I'm Lane. I am a three year old girl who has enough energy to power the entire state of NC. I've been at my foster mom's since I was 11 weeks old. I'm really good in my crate during the day while foster mom is at work. I sleep in my crate at night as well. I also express my opinion when I'm crated and something else is happening in the house. I have strong FOMO! I may not look it, but my foster mom.had my DNA tested and I am Great Pyrenees, along with some staffie and some pittie and cattle dog. These long legs like to run lots of zoomies around the yard. They also help me jump like a kangaroo. A high fence may be necessary to contain my excitement. I would do best in an active household, with no small kids and no small animals. I do have a strong herding instinct. My foster mom had a cat that I really like to put in my mouth. I don't think the cat appreciated it very much. But I find it a lot of fun. I don't have to be the only dog in the household, but the other dog should probably be my size or a little larger and most likely a male dog. I seem to get along best with them. No girl drama! I can also be very protective of my stuff - food and toys especially. I don't like sharing them with other dogs. I am also the BEST guard dog - maybe a little too good. I want to alert you that you just let a stranger in the house and I have to go into protector mode. I am still learning that not everyone is trying to sell us solar panels and I don't need to be so mean sounding to foster mom's guests. If you are a dog savvy family that is willing to work with training and help me become the best dog ever, please put in an application. I would love to find my forever home. Story
Winston is 5 months old and will be a big floofy boy! Hi there, I'm Winston! I'm a young pup full of energy and love. I'm always ready for a game of fetch or a good cuddle. I'm curious about the world and love exploring new things. I can be a bit goofy and playful, which makes everyone around me laugh. I'm also smart and quick to learn new tricks. I had a collar that was embedded and had to be surgically removed. I am a little nervous with having anything around my neck still. I'm loyal and friendly, always ready to make new friends. Adopting me means gaining a funny, loyal, and energetic companion who will always be there for you! Story
Smudge is a big guy with such a delicate demeanor. Having spent his life outdoors smudge is learning what it is like to be loved and adored amongst a real family. His body tells of a rough life, missing 2 toes and buckled at his wrist; Smudge walks with a slight limp favoring his previously injured foot. Our vet team was surprised to learn from X-rays his 2 toe bones are completely missing causing him to compensate at the wrist. He had tested positive for Lyme disease having not be properly protected by his previous home. Yet despite all he has to overcome this boy is a true gentle giant. He walks gracefully on a leash simply happy to have you nearby, adores children of all ages, he loves to be an integrated part of the family. It seems he has longed for that for so long. Smudges responses to everyday situations breaks our hearts, he will cower with raised voices, lower himself with fast motions and try to show his stomach to you in appeasement. We don’t know everything this big guy endured yet are working with him to build his confidence. When Smudge is feeling protected and brave his tail starts to wag, his body language becomes taller and looser. His entire body wags with joy to see people, he showers your with kisses and will quickly accept all the pets you are willing to give. Smudge enjoys our company more than any dog in our program. We can’t help but think he spent so long hoping for such attention. Transparencies are important to us; on walks Smudge prefers the scenic route where he can sniff and claim every blade of grass as his which makes for a comical sight and leaves us wondering just how much more fluid could he possibly possess. Smudge enjoys the company of other dogs, happily will strut alongside them. He is not a huge fan of wrestling yet loves to be in their presence all the same. He is definitely a calmer laid back guy. In the home Smudge is a self declared kitchen assistant, laying all 65lbs of himself right where you plan to walk hoping something may find its way to the floor. He is definitely a foodie! This guy might be large yet is as gentle as they come, he is tolerant of others dogs bully ways and will cower to them vs standing up for himself. We would love to find him a home where he no longer has to be bullied, taken for granted yet where he will be cherished and adored for the amazing boy he is. He would do best in a single level home. Smudge is neutered, up to date on his vaccinations and preventatives. He has been microchipped and is being treated appropriately for his positive Lyme diagnosis which will be over soon! If you think your family is ready to welcome such an amazing boy into your home please complete an application on our website. It’s not often dogs like Smudge come around, he’s going to be one you will compare every dog too. https://www.secondchancenc.org/adopt-a-pet/dog-adoption-application/***Please Note: All the available dogs listed on our website are getting spoiled in private foster homes. If someone has caught your eye and you wish to arrange a meet and greet, we do need you to fill out the adoption application. When your adoption application is received our screening team will verify the information given. Once your application has been confirmed and approved, we will be send it over to the foster parent for review to determine if your home is a good match for the dog. In the event one lucky dog receives multiple applications, please know we do not select based on a first come basis. We try our best to select the best-fit for our animals and families. ***

Story
This dog is by far the kindest most gentle creature ive had the pleasure of knowing. Ive had him for 3 years and Ive found that he deserves a yard, someone that will give him attention beyond what Im able to do, myself. Im moving to NYC in a few months and I have just come to terms with knowing that wont work for him. If youre interested in this baby we can schedule a meeting so you can meet him. A few things- He doesnt respond well to negative reinforcement, and his digestive system can be finicky (something we can discuss further) and he will eat soft things left on the ground(socks, underwear) so if youre not a clean person- beware. Additionally- he adores kids SO MUCH. He will chase them around and hes so gentle with them. Hes a great dog.
