Story
** COURTESY POST ** ** This animal is NOT at the Rowlett Animal Shelter, so please do not inquire with them ** ** For information contact Leonora Lowery; (972)802 9422  ** My name is Leonora Lowery and my daughter and I found a dog tied to a stop sign by a railroad track.  We assessed that he was not aggressive before removing the chains and putting him in our car and we brought him home. Once home, we put a harness on him and attempted to walk him in to a crate that was already set up for him by my son. The dog (we have named Oreo) would not leave the gravel drive of our home and we realized that he was hesitant to step on the grass and we can only deduce that he had never seen grass before. Where he was tied was also all gravel. We made several attempts to find him a home but time and resources limit us as to how much exposure we can give him.  We have a vet tech friend that estimated his age at about 1 1/2 - 2 years old and possibly a great pyr/ st. bernard mix. He is about 80 lbs, not neutered.  He is a sweet dog and has acclimated to the crate when indoors but desperately needs a home. We cannot keep him as our own dogs are all seniors and some in delicate health - namely our Anatolian Shepherd that is 100 lbs and has a rod replacing his shoulder. Oreo is still very much puppy and can be quite rambunctious and has already run into him once causing a little discomfort to him.  The other dogs here are smaller and do not like him because they find his size and energy intimidating so Oreo is sadly only able to be outside on his own and when we can play with him. I cannot bring myself to take him to a shelter as I feel he has been thru enough trauma.      November 29, 2023, 10:24 pm

Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.Meet Winter!  This stunningly beautiful girl with captivating eyes is around 2-3 years old.  She is tall and svelte at 80 pounds. When Winter was seen wandering as a stray, our friends at Dog Gone Detectives stepped in to get her to safety.  Then SPIN stepped to provide her a loving foster home. Winter has been easy to foster.   She is the sweetest girl.  She is quiet and timid when meeting new people, then quickly warms up.  She adores laying close to you.  She loves scratches and will ask for them with her Pyr paw. She likes getting toys out of her toy bin.  She gathers them to her favorite hoarding spot and chews on the stuffed ones. Winter doesn’t like loud noises or the freakishly roaming Roomba.  She would do best in a quiet, nurturing home. She was a little nervous at first walking on hardwood floors, but has learned that they’re great to lay on because they are cool. We think she would like a doggy companion in her forever home. She has been exposed to large and small, male and female dogs, and she gets along great with them all. She enjoys a nice back yard where she can freely play and explore. Winter takes treats very gently and sits.  She is house trained and has no need to be crated.  She is leash trained and walks nicely with a harness.  She rides nicely in a car.  And she is quiet, rarely barking. SPIN Pyrs are all in foster homes in the Dallas/Fort Worth area. Potential adopters are asked to make travel arrangements if they live elsewhere. All SPIN dogs are spayed or neutered, current on vaccinations and on heartworm prevention. Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.Meet India!  Born around October 2021, this tender cutie pie is all legs even though she’s fairly small. She weighs about 40 pounds and is long and lanky like a colt. This little pumpkin is friendly and sweet with people, but a little reserved at first.  She’ll show you her famous “sad eyes” pose to make you turn to mush. She is playful with anything that moves!  She loves to run around outside and is very active.  She doesn’t know her own strength, so she shouldn’t be placed with babies, toddlers, or the infirm. She also loves basking in the cool morning sun. India needs a doggy companion in her forever home.  She prefers dogs that aren’t overzealous.  She scares easily and will run away crying if a dog jumps on her. She is very food motivated, since she was raised with her brother; she is the more dominant of the two and would try to steal his food. She is good with cats, too.  She does well with cats that like dogs.  We suspect that if a cat smacked her, she would run away crying. She is housed trained, leash trained, and she rides nicely in a car. She is very vocal and likes to bark. SPIN Pyrs are all in foster homes in the Dallas/Fort Worth area. Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.Meet Lahaina!  This beautiful two-year old golden girl making the most of her second chance. She is resilient, like the town in Hawaii for which she was named. Left behind when her family moved away, Lahaina is making a great comeback. Her coat was in bad shape when she first came to us, so she had to have a short cut, and it's growing back wonderfully. Lahaina is a non-dominant girl, learning how to play again. She is currently being crate trained, and eats meals in her crate.  Once finished, she will patiently wait to be released, even if the door is not latched! After realizing that she is safe in her foster home, her playful personality started to emerge. She gets excited about food (we are working on minor guarding issues), and encourages all of her foster siblings to play with her. Being the youngest pup in the house, she's not always successful, so she would love a younger dog to romp with in her forever home. She will sometimes jump up on people, so she may not be the right dog for a family with young children, and should be good with any other households. Lahaina will also find an out-of-the-way place to take a snooze when things quiet down.  This summer, she could be found in her foster mom's bathtub! This is a meet-to-appreciate girl that would love to be the center of your attention.  When out in public, she makes friends with everyone she meets. Plan on extra visiting time if you plan to meet her, because you will want to adopt her and take her home! SPIN Pyrs are all in foster homes in the Dallas/Fort Worth area. Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.Meet Opie!  He is a sweet boy with freckles like the original Opie Taylor from The Andy Griffith Show!  He is approximately 4 years old and has a gentle temperament. Opie likes other dogs, and loves people. He would like nothing better than to live within a foot or two of you! Opie has a healthy appetite, and has the funny habit of picking up his bowl and moving it, sometimes spilling it.  Not to worry, he’ll clean up after himself. Opie will be happy as an only dog or as one of several.  He gets along with all the dogs in his foster home, including the little ones.  He hasn’t been tested with house cats, but since he doesn’t often join in the squirrel chasing, we think he would be fine with little felines. Opie doesn’t get up on furniture, and we’re working on curtailing his counter surfing tendencies.  He’s working on his car riding skills, and he might need a little helpful booty boost to get in. He’s is mid-treatment of heart worms, so that will need to be continued, and we will provide the meds. You will absolutely fall in love when you meet sweet Opie! Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.Meet Sully!  Born around June 2021, this affectionate, adorable, super goofy boy is on the smaller side around 65 pounds and won’t get much bigger. Sweet Sully is such a social butterfly! He loves people and is very friendly. He would love to be a lap dog! Then he would be living his best life. His happy place is leaning on and cuddling with his humans. When he meets new people, he likes to sit and throw his front legs up like he expects a hug. It’s so cute he usually gets it. He is good with kids, but he should probably not be placed with babies or toddlers, because he does a double Pyr paw when he's excited. He might accidentally knock little ones over or bop them in the face. Sully would love to have a big yard where he can play with his doggy friends. He loves, loves toys! He is king of “keep-away” with his dog buddies. He must have a playful dog around his size in his forever home. He likes to chew on all his dog friends and can be a bit of a pest to them. His dog companion will need to be able to stand up for themselves and tell Sully no. He has done well with smaller dogs as long as he has an appropriate sized buddy to play with. Sully is nice to cats. However, he thinks that birds and other small wild animals make a nice snack. He has some adorable quirks. He occasionally watches TV and is fascinated by any animal noises he hears from it. He is very unsure about vacuums, especially the robot ones that run around unchecked, and he is definitely not scared of them at all. He spends some mornings trying to let the robot vacuum know he's the boss. Sully is house trained and walks beautifully on a leash. He doesn’t bark very much. He loves car rides and meeting new people. He would be a great adventure buddy! Sully does have the tendency to grab and eat things he shouldn't, especially out of the trash. He thinks everything makes a good snack if it smells interesting, and will need someone that can keep dangerous snacks out of reach. Sully is crate trained but doesn't love spending time there. He's been left out overnight and when his people are out of the house at his foster home, and he behaved perfectly. SPIN Pyrs are all in foster homes in the Dallas/Fort Worth area.
