Meet Oliver!
Oliver is a 1-year-old, 16-pound Havanese mix with a gentle spirit and a sweet personality. This little guy was found as an emaciated and injured stray on the streets of Detroit, and veterinarians suspect he may have been hit by a car. Thankfully, his injuries were limited to some superficial road rash. Oliver has completely healed, is in good health, and is ready to put his scary past behind him!
Unfortunately, no one ever came looking for Oliver, so now he gets the opportunity to find a family who will make sure he never has to wonder where he belongs again.
Oliver can be a little timid when first introduced to new people and situations. The world hasn't always been the safest place for him, so he appreciates having a little time to take things in and realize everything is okay. Once comfortable, Oliver enjoys being close to his people and would thrive in a quieter home where he can settle into a predictable routine and build his confidence. He would be best in an adult home, or with older dog-savvy children as he isn't into a lot of commotion.
He has done well with other dogs and can happily coexist with a canine companion, although he isn't specifically looking for another dog to make him feel complete. He also doesn't have any issues with cats. So far, Oliver hasn't shown much interest in toys—he seems to prefer the companionship of his people instead.
Oliver is a relatively quiet fella and has demonstrated a good understanding of house manners. He is crate trained, although he has shown no real need to be contained when left alone.
Leash walking is still something Oliver is gaining confidence with. Considering his history as a stray in Detroit, it's understandable that the big world outside can sometimes feel a little intimidating. A securely fenced yard would be ideal, giving him a safe place to explore, potty, and enjoy the outdoors at his own pace. Oliver is not a good candidate for an invisible fence or tether.
As a Havanese mix, Oliver will require regular grooming to keep his coat healthy, comfortable, and looking its best.
Oliver doesn't need a busy household or a nonstop adventure. He's looking for a patient family, a comfortable home, and people he can trust enough to finally relax and know he's safe.
After everything he's been through, this sweet little guy is ready for the best part of his story—a family that will love him furever.

OUR FOSTER ANIMALS ARE LIVING IN FOSTER HOMES AND TREATED LIKE FAMILY UNTIL THEY FIND THEIR OWN FUREVER FAMILIES. OUR ADOPTION PROECESS REQUIRES AN APPLICATION TO BE COMPLETED AND APPROVED BEFORE A MEET-N-GREET WITH THE ANIMAL CAN TAKE PLACE.
