Story
Between May 1st and 15th, part of my adoption fee is sponsored! Thanks to the Bissell Pet Foundation's Empty the Shelters campaign, my new family can take me home for $50! Meet Bunny! Bunny is a 6 year old, 12 pound Havanese. Bunny is a puppy mill rescue who has slowly begun to thrive and learn about the good life in foster care! Bunny is shy and nervous around most humans but is slowly coming around. She thrives in her own space surrounded by her plush toys, pillow, soothing music, and of course, with furry friends by her side! Bunny loves the companionship of other dogs and even does well with cats. In fact, a home with other animals is a requirement for Bunny! Her housetraining is coming along wonderfully, and she makes the best greeter after coming home from a long day! Though she doesn't always accept pets, once she trusts you, she loves to follow her human around. She also sleeps quietly through the night and overall doesn't make much noise. Bunny enjoys bath time, following her furry foster sisters around, plenty of snacks, chicken, and dental bones. Bunny enjoys lounging and observing the dynamics of the household. Bunny would thrive in a forever home filled with patience, love, and understanding. Bunny is currently enjoying her time with her foster family in Manhattan, NY. Her adoption fee is $500. To adopt this animal, please visit https://www.louieslegacy.org/adopt All of our animals come spayed or neutered, fully up to date on vaccinations, including rabies (if age appropriate) and Bordetella, are microchipped, heartworm negative, current on flea/tick and heartworm prevention, dewormed, and treated for any ailments found upon veterinary examination. The adoption fee covers a portion of these services, and makes it possible for us to continue rescuing animals. For more information on the adoption fees and the adoption process, please complete our adoption application here: https://www.louieslegacy.org/adopt - an application allows us to get to know your family better so we can assess whether the animal you are interested in is a good match for your home. An application does not obligate you to adopt. Please understand that due to the volume of applications some animals receive, we are unable to contact all applicants. If your application is considered a good fit for the animal you are interested in, or even a different pet, a volunteer will give you a call as soon as possible. We are a foster based rescue and do not have a shelter location where animals can be seen during the week. Please see our Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/LouiesLegacy for our weekly adoption album if you are interested in meeting an animal in person. Not all animals attend every adoption event. Please check our Facebook page for animal event times and locations before you make a trip to meet a specific animal.

Between May 1st and 15th, part of my adoption fee is sponsored! Thanks to the Bissell Pet Foundation's Empty the Shelters campaign, my new family can take me home for $50! Meet Kora! Kora is a 7 year old, 11 pound, Havanese who loves hanging with her people! Her superpowers include being brave in exploring her new world, and napping anywhere! She's still unsure about the loud noises, sudden movements, and busy streets when walking outside but were confident that with time and patience, she'll get used to it! Kora didn't have the easiest start to life, so she's still working on potty training and she takes a little while to get comfortable with her people and her surroundings. We're optimistic that once she realizes she's with her furever family -- she'll love giving cuddles and hanging with her people! Some of her favorite things are her toys and chews! She would do best in a home with pawrents who are patient and kind while she gets used to her new surroundings. If you're looking for the sweetest pup who just needs some love, Kora might be the girl for you! Kora is currently being fostered in Staten Island, New York. Her adoption fee is $500. Story
Meet Elsa! Elsa is a sweet 15 pound, 7 year-old, Havanese. Elsa is a recent rescue from a puppy mill. She was utilized for breeding, and as such has many characteristics of a mill dog rescue-- she's shy, skittish, and takes some time to warm up to humans. However, once she gets to know you, Elsa loves having her person and the ability to run around outside. She likes to take walks as well. She probably will do very well in a home with outdoor space and another friendly dog to keep her company. Elsa is currently located in Manhattan and her adoption fee is $600.00. Elsa is a Patron Pup. Patron Pups have higher adoption fees due to varying reasons and are adopted quickly, even with these higher adoption fees. They may be purebred, a highly desirable breed, small in size fully grown, etc. These fees allow them to act as patrons to other pets in our care who may not be as adoptable, or have ongoing costs for medical care, contributing to a longer time in rescue, and therefore a higher cost for us to care for them. Patron Pups allow us to continue rescuing these other animals and give them a better chance at finding their forever homes as well. To adopt this animal, please visit https://www.louieslegacy.org/adopt All of our animals come spayed or neutered, up to date on age appropriate vaccinations, are microchipped, heartworm negative, current on flea/tick and heartworm prevention, dewormed, and treated for any ailments found upon veterinary examination. Story
Meet Ariel! Ariel is a 7 year old, 17 pound Havanese puppy mill mama who's ready to start the next chapter of her life. While she is still shy, Ariel is starting to get used to people. She will approach on her own terms for a sniff, but is still backing away when approached. She will let you pet her, but she's still working on seeking and accepting affection. With the right family, though, we're confident that she will flourish! Ariel seems to thrive when she's around other dogs. So far she's been around same sized and larger dogs and she gets a little bit of puppy energy when she's around them. Ariel loves to be outside. She's still learning how to walk on a leash, but she's getting better at it every day. She doesn't know how to use pee pads, so a house with a yard (small is fine) or with someone who can take her for walks would be best. Ariel is a calm and quiet dog. She's not sure what to do with toys and is most comfortable just getting to lie on a bed among household members. She is very gentle and sweet and with more time and love, she will easily be a wonderful family dog. If she sounds like the perfect pup for you, apply to adopt Ariel today! Ariel is currently being fostered in Staten Island, NY, and her adoption fee is $600. Ariel is a Patron Pup. Patron Pups have higher adoption fees due to varying reasons and are adopted quickly, even with these higher adoption fees. Story
Meet Apopka! Apopka is a 3 year old, 22 lb Havanese who loves kisses, cuddles and being close to people. Apopka loves greeting everyone she meets. She enjoys looking out the window and site seeing. She likes walking though the park and chasing squirrels up the tree. She is so graceful and runs like a gazelle. She is loving to all people everywhere, and gets along great with other dogs. In terms of house training, Apopka is house broken and knows to go to the bathroom once she's outside. We had wee-wee pads out, but she didn't need them. If you're looking for the biggest lover who will greet you with full body kisses every time you walk in the door and loves spooning and snuggling at night and at nap time, she might be your perfect match. She's such a sweet girl! She has the cutest underbite as well! Apopka is currently being fostered in Queens, NY. Her adoption fee is $600. Apopka is a Patron Pup.
