Story
Max (Maxi) is a 7-year-old Havanese mix weighing approximately 10 pounds. This handsome little guy is house trained, crate trained, and full of personality. Max is smart, loyal, and knows several commands, including sit, paw, and down. He even waits patiently for permission before enjoying his meals. Max loves belly rubs, chin scratches, cozy naps, and carrying around his favorite toy, Bear Bear. He forms strong bonds with his people and thrives in a home that provides structure, consistency, and clear expectations. Because of his personality and attachment to his people, Max is looking for an adult-only home with an experienced dog owner. He is not a first-time dog and will do best with someone who understands that trust and relationships take time. Max can be nervous around new people and loud noises, but with patience and routine, he settles in well and becomes a devoted companion. Max has a seizure disorder that is well controlled with medication. He has been seizure-free for nearly two years and takes his medication easily. His medication costs approximately $8 per month, and he simply needs routine veterinary monitoring twice a year to ensure he continues to do well. As a Havanese mix, Max will require regular grooming to keep his coat healthy and comfortable. Through no fault of his own, Max is looking for a new home because his owner is moving out of state and is unable to take him along. While this decision has been incredibly difficult, the hope is to find him a loving family where he can continue to thrive. Max’s adoption fee has been waived, but our adoption screening and approval process still applies. Meet Jackson! He's a 10-year-old Havashu (Havanese/Shih Tzu) with a very cat-like personality. He likes company on his own terms — he'll settle nearby, entertain himself, and doesn't demand much. If you want a calm, low-drama companion rather than a velcro dog, he's your match. He's healthy and in good shape for his age. Over the years he's had all but four teeth pulled — it sounds dramatic, but the dental work is done and paid for, his mouth is comfortable, and he eats regular food with no trouble at all. No ongoing medical issues, no special diet. He's available through no fault of his own: our family is growing and we can't give him the time he deserves. He'd suit a quiet home, an apartment, or anyone who'd like an easygoing companion. Neutered and up to date on vaccines. All vet records go with him.

Bowie can be unsure when meeting new people or encountering unfamiliar things, but he usually relaxes after a few minutes. He responds well to calm voices, slow movements, and steady routines. With gentle encouragement and time to warm up at his own pace, he blossoms and shows his loving nature. He would likely do best if he were the only animal in the home, and he is a great little watchdog who enjoys keeping an eye on the neighborhood. Bowie enjoys chewing on sturdy dog toys (no plush or fabric items) and benefits from a dog-proofed space for both day and night. He’s housetrained, neutered, doesn’t shed, and is content sleeping in the same room as his person. Bowie loves his meals, treats, and outdoor adventures. He’s enthusiastic about walks and could use some leash training.
