Story
Please contact Anna Waldman (anna.waldman@luckydoganimalrescue.org) for more information about this pet.small sweetie seeking fresh start and love! LUCY NEEDS A FOSTER OR FOREVER HOME!!!! Name:    Lucy        Best Guess for Breed:   Havanese mix      Best Guess for Age: 4 years as of May 2026        SEX:   Female   Approximate Weight:   20 lbs   Gets Along With:  Other dogs!  We haven't seen her with cats or kids but we are happy to discuss integration techniques with any potential adopters!   Currently Living at:    South Carolina shelter - needs a foster or forever home in the DC area to get up here   Special adoption considerations: Lucy s a truly Lucky Dog. She tested positive for heartworms, but landed in a place where heartworm treatment is provided! Heartworm is not contagious to people or other pets, but results from mosquito bites. Heartworm, if left untreated, is life threatening, but after treatment, dogs that were heartworm positive should suffer no significant long-term effects so long as they are kept on a monthly heartworm preventative. Heartworm dogs can resume full active and normal lives, but need to be kept calm for 4-6 weeks after treatment. We are happy to discuss where in the treatment process this Lucky Dog is in right now! Just email the adoption coordinator - the address is at lower left!   Lucy is Looking For:    Her new chapter! Her previous one closed when she arrived into the shelter with a horribly embedded harness and had to be shaved down. She has firmly closed that one and is looking forward to being a well-loved pet who gets to go on sniffy walks and all the adventures her humans can dream up. And snuggles. And quality kibble and a cushy dog bed. And - daily brushing and regular professional grooming, please. Mats are very painful and Lucy deserves to never go through that again.    Most of all, she wants to know she's safe and loved. In exchange, she promises loyal companionship for all her days. What do you say? Does she have a spot in your home and your heart?   What My Foster Says About Me:   We will update this once she has spent tme in foster care.    Lucky Dog cannot guarantee any dog is housebroken.  All of our dogs are working on their crate training.  TO ADOPT:    The adoption fee for this dog is $475, which includes the cost of routine vetting, including vaccinations, spay/neuter, and heartworm treatment.  If you are interested in adopting, please complete the Adoption Questionnaire online at bit.ly/adoptaluckydog   Lucky Dog Animal Rescue does our best to provide accurate information about the dogs we have for adoption. Story
We have had Ariel since she was a puppy. She is a little over 10 years old and still loves playing with her stuffed animal toys and playing fetch with a tennis ball. She knows basic commands (sit, shake, speak, lay down, go to your bed). She is not crate trained, although, I believe with time she would go in but you might hear about it for a while. She would thrive with someone who works from home although she is currently home alone from around 8:30 am to 3:00 pm with no major issues. We need to rehome due to a recent move. Our landlords are generous enough to give us some time to find her a knew home. We are not asking anything for her other than a good home. She is a little skiddish with new people but generally warms up to them after a day or two. She is due most of her vaccines although she recently recieved the rabies vaccination. Any other questions feel free to reach out.

Story
Max (Maxi) is a 7-year-old Havanese mix weighing approximately 10 pounds. This handsome little guy is house trained, crate trained, and full of personality. Max is smart, loyal, and knows several commands, including sit, paw, and down. He even waits patiently for permission before enjoying his meals. Max loves belly rubs, chin scratches, cozy naps, and carrying around his favorite toy, Bear Bear. He forms strong bonds with his people and thrives in a home that provides structure, consistency, and clear expectations. Because of his personality and attachment to his people, Max is looking for an adult-only home with an experienced dog owner. He is not a first-time dog and will do best with someone who understands that trust and relationships take time. Max can be nervous around new people and loud noises, but with patience and routine, he settles in well and becomes a devoted companion. Max has a seizure disorder that is well controlled with medication. He has been seizure-free for nearly two years and takes his medication easily. His medication costs approximately $8 per month, and he simply needs routine veterinary monitoring twice a year to ensure he continues to do well. As a Havanese mix, Max will require regular grooming to keep his coat healthy and comfortable. Through no fault of his own, Max is looking for a new home because his owner is moving out of state and is unable to take him along. While this decision has been incredibly difficult, the hope is to find him a loving family where he can continue to thrive. Max’s adoption fee has been waived, but our adoption screening and approval process still applies. If you are looking for a smart, loyal companion with plenty of personality, Max may be the perfect fit.
