Story
Max (Maxi) is a 7-year-old Havanese mix weighing approximately 10 pounds. This handsome little guy is house trained, crate trained, and full of personality. Max is smart, loyal, and knows several commands, including sit, paw, and down. He even waits patiently for permission before enjoying his meals. Max loves belly rubs, chin scratches, cozy naps, and carrying around his favorite toy, Bear Bear. He forms strong bonds with his people and thrives in a home that provides structure, consistency, and clear expectations. Because of his personality and attachment to his people, Max is looking for an adult-only home with an experienced dog owner. He is not a first-time dog and will do best with someone who understands that trust and relationships take time. Max can be nervous around new people and loud noises, but with patience and routine, he settles in well and becomes a devoted companion. Max has a seizure disorder that is well controlled with medication. He has been seizure-free for nearly two years and takes his medication easily. His medication costs approximately $8 per month, and he simply needs routine veterinary monitoring twice a year to ensure he continues to do well. As a Havanese mix, Max will require regular grooming to keep his coat healthy and comfortable. Through no fault of his own, Max is looking for a new home because his owner is moving out of state and is unable to take him along. While this decision has been incredibly difficult, the hope is to find him a loving family where he can continue to thrive. Max’s adoption fee has been waived, but our adoption screening and approval process still applies. Story
Somebody get me out of this old age home! That’s what Boomer is saying about his stay here. Boomer is a very healthy, playful, and active 11-year-old Havanese/Terrier mix. While the other dogs who live here are happy to nap the day away, Boomer loves to run and go for long walks. He really needs to find a great new home who can give him the time and exercise he would like. He is friendly with other dogs when outside but he can be quite territorial in the house. Therefore, we are looking for a home with no other animals. Boomer came to us after he was surrendered by his owner to the shelter. His owner said he didn’t like children, so adults-only homes please. During Boomer’s behavior test at the shelter, he showed signs of resource guarding for food and toys. We have worked with him on that but his new home must know how to continue this training. We are hoping to find the ideal home for Boomer. We learned that his previous owner was physically and verbally abusive to him. As a result, Boomer can be fearful at times. If he thinks he’s going to be scolded, he retreats to the sofa or a corner. He needs a new home that will be patient and loving with him, as well as knowledgeable on how to deal with his behavior challenges. If any force is used on him, he will try to protect himself. Boomer is smart. He knows how to sit, stay, and come, and also gives kisses on command. He really wants to be a loving, trusting dog. He has come a long way since he arrived here. Jameson is fully house-trained and will politely bark once to let you know he needs to go outside. He is also crate-trained, sleeping comfortably in his crate at night and resting quietly for short periods during the day when he is home alone. Jameson is an easy companion to have around. He rarely barks, rides calmly in the car, walks nicely on a leash, and enjoys meeting both people and other dogs during neighborhood strolls. He is surprisingly patient at mealtimes and has shown wonderful house manners, never chewing on anything inappropriate. While he loves chew toys, he prefers durable ones that can withstand his enthusiasm. He also enjoys playing fetch and happily understands "drop it." He is well-adjusted, affectionate, and eager to be part of a family. He is neutered, does not shed, and is truly an all-around great dog. Jameson would thrive in a home with a fenced yard where he can safely play, along with an active family that enjoys daily walks and includes their dog in everyday life.
