Story
Have you ever seen such a handsome pup with such beautiful crystal blue eyes?! Well, Meet Oslo! He's an excitable young pup who lived his first bit of life on a tether and is just now experiencing the world. With that said, everything is exciting and his manners aren't quite developed yet so he needs a patience home to teach him all the things he hasn't had a chance to learn yet.Oslo is looking for a dedicated owner who has the time and patience to put into his positive reinforcement training so he can learn to be the best boy he can be! He is still learning how to walk nicely on leash, and working on his basic cues and behaviours, but he is so eager to please and loves being a good boy! Oslo is VERY food motivated, which makes positive training easy for him and fun for you! Due to his exuberant behaviour he wouldn't be suited for a home with young children as he would very easily knock them over because he doesn't quite understand his size. Due to his lack of experience with people and his jumpy behaviours he will need a patient home that can teach this goofy boy how to snuggle appropriately. A fully fenced yard would be ideal for him so he can run around, get his zoomies out, and practice all his training skills with his new people. Story
Beautiful husky girl Chiquita, born April 2023, is looking for a home. She is approximately 41 lbs. Her mum and littermates were often seen wandering in the area of the SPCA PV sanctuary and staff and volunteers saw them in deteriorating condition due to a diet heavy on garbage and took them in to give them the care they needed. After she got refuge in the sanctuary, she lived through a hurricane which heavily damaged the shelter, and she had temporary refuge in a home that unfortunately had a landlord that didn't allow dogs.. but in that time, she learned what a home is and what it is meant to be loved. Chiquita is an energetic girl so she’d love a yard with some space to burn off some zoomies but was in a foster home in an apartment. She loves the beach. Her foster mom just loved her, described her as a fast learner, and a great cuddler. She has learned basic commands - sit, come, waits to eat her food. She isn't destructive in the home and did well in the car. She is selective with other dogs, and can be reactive, and would squabble with her siblings. Kids make her nervous so she'd prefer a quiet adult home where she can learn more about the world. Chiquita would be best in a home without cats as she shows high prey drive. Video of Chiquita with her shelter friends: https://www.facebook.com/spcapv/videos/1401202434079126 She is now healthy and vaccinated. If you think you might be her happy home, please contact us at pvcaadoptions@gmail.com for more information. Chiquita is currently in Mexico but can fly to a Canadian home near you! Story
Meet Pippa! Pippa is very social and knows basic commands. She loves all people and will want to say hi to everyone. Pippa looooves belly rubs and will flop over to get some every time. Pippa is not suitable to live with livestock or cats as she does have some prey drive typical to her breed. While she sometimes can make dog friends, she may be best being the only dog in the home. If your heart reaches out to sweet Pippa and you are looking for a hiking buddy and an all around great companion then Pippa may be the right fit for you! She loves to hang out and take naps on the couch or if she gets too warn then on the nice cold floor. Pippa can be left home alone during the work day. She would rather of course go with you but she can be left alone. She loves to get her doggie ice cream (frozen Kong) to keep her busy. Story
Welcome Milo!!This spunky energy stuffed boy is ready to take life on by the leash, and run with it!We have just loved getting to know this fella, and think he's just loads of fun and full of so much life! Milo here LOVES to play, and will happily toss his toys around the yard, keeping himself endlessly entertained! He does hilarious drive by fake outs when he's running at you, and zooms right by with impressive speed! He needs a nice big yard where he can run and get all his crazies out so he can be his very best self! He can get pretty frustrated when he doesn't have the opportunity to get his energy out, and wouldn't be suited to an apartment as he has shown us he needs much more space!Milo does have a tendency to jump, and is working really hard on correcting this behavior with positive reinforcement! He just gets so happy to see you, he wants to be as close as he can! He is very food motivated and praise oriented, and will thrive with a gentle training approach as he succeeds with a reward based system! When you ask him to sit, he lays down flat on his belly - its so cute! Milo is a large fella who can be quite strong and pulls hard on the lead, and would love a guardian to show him the ropes on loose lead walking, and would enjoy learning his recall! He is fully house trained, and has been so tidy for us!He plays well with other dogs, although a bit forward at first, and hasn't ever been exposed to cats so we aren't too sure how that would go!Milo is such a fun and loving fella who is so ready to get started on his new life! If you are looking for a social fella to be your new adventure pal, stop your search and apply below! Primary Color: Black Secondary Color: Tan Weight: 32.5 Age: 1yrs 2mths 3wks

Nani 🌸Socialable, smart, and full of delight- Nani is ready to share her pep with the world. Despite Nani starting her senior years, she still has a lively energy to her. A great walking companion, Nani is excited to go for a daily trot, then come home and follow up with some play time. She loves her toys, engaging both independently and with human companions, especially when it comes to her squeaky whale stuffy! 🐋 Nani would love to exercise her body and mind more, but she currently needs some help getting to a comfortable point. Nani has been benefitting from daily supplements and monthly arthritis injections to support her aging joints. Some of her other hobbies include sunbathing, being with her people, and snacking on some apples 🍎 if you offer! Nani loves people, and prefers to be with them over not. She has been living comfortably with dog savvy cats, and is understanding of their boundaries. Other dogs excite Nani, and while she loves their presence, she hasn't quite figured out how to respect their space when they don't want to engage. If you're looking to add an affectionate, gentle, and spirited fuzzy gal to your home, Nani is waiting for you to fill out the application below ⬇️https://spca.bc.ca/survey/dog-adoption-application-powell-river/Nani (SB# 590326)8 year old, spayed femaleSiberian Husky X Primary Color: White Secondary Color: Tan Weight: 28.4 Age: 8yrs 0mths 2wks

Story
I bet the majority of us have always wanted a Steve in our life. And that Steve is most likely a super cool guy who you just want to be around because he emits goodness no matter the time of day. Steve the dog is no different than the Steve you know. He is a super cool guy, despite the past that should've been kinder to him. Steve is a loving, big soft fluff, who unlike many dogs of his breed, does not vocalize a lot. Steve is a smart, active, well-trained local dog that fell upon hard times and that resulted in a lot of fear and confusion. He was often tied with a short chain to a cinder block and left outside. The last time he had been outside for a walk was unknown. His world had become very very very small and Steve shut down. This naturally resulted in resource guarding and reactivity - which culminated in a bite when someone tried to remove food in a bowl from near him. The owners tried to surrender him to various groups but no one wanted him as a result of the bite and the only offer was euthanasia. Thankfully we at Mountainside gave Steve a chance to show us his true colors. We quickly saw that he was loving - but so scared and confused. Through months of training, exercise and monitored socialization, Steve has started to make friends and is becoming more himself as each day goes by. He has had the wonderful fortune of being in foster care and then being very loved by our boarding facility partners that have given him the incredible opportunity to meet new dogs and learn how to be a dog again. Steve is working hard on making progress through some of his issues and though he has come so far, he will need his person to continue to help him along his journey. At this time we think the best fit would be an adult only family that is home more often than not. He has lived with other dogs in the past but isn't ready for that yet. Steve is a stunning, kind boy who would be a perfect match for someone who is patient, and willing to put in the work to give him the best kind of life. At the end of the day, he's just Steve, a super cool guy, who deserves a super cool life.
