Story
Howdy, partner — I'm Cowboy, a Norwegian Elkhound and Husky mix with plenty of spirit! I'm neutered and ready to roll, with lots of energy, a playful streak, and a sharp mind that loves to learn. I'm affectionate and friendly, and I thrive on activity and engagement — I'll be your perfect companion for outdoor adventures and indoor fun alike. If you're looking for a young, energetic buddy who's equal parts loyal and lively, let's meet and see if we're a match! All pets adopted from the Humane Society of Freeborn County will be spayed or neutered, up to date on age appropriate vaccinations, testing and will be microchipped. All of this is included in their adoption fee. Fill out an application to adopt at freeborncountyhs.org When transitioning your new pet home please allow for at least 4-6 weeks for your pet to adjust to their new home. They will need this time to decompress, and adjust to a new routine and environment. During that time we will provide check ins and counseling to ensure a successful transition. Please review all basic adoption requirements listed on our website before applying. We take finding the right homes for the animals in our care very seriously. They deserve nothing but the best! Please allow 2-7 days for applications to be processed. If an animal is listed in foster care, these pets are not at our facility, but are in foster care homes. They are still available for adoption, and meet and greets are done with pre-approved applicants only. If you have any questions feel free to send us an email at freeborncohumanesociety@gmail.com, send us a message on Facebook, or call or text 507-377-8501.

Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.Volunteer fave in the house! Bram arrived at the shelter on 9/29/2024, after he went unclaimed at the city pound. He's a happy and energetic husky mix with icy blue eyes. We do think he's mixed with some type of herding breed. He's friendly and ready for action at all times. He's also very loving. His size is in the medium range and he's around 3 years old. He has been vet checked, neutered, and chipped. His fee is $150. We're hoping to find Bram a home that has some experience with husky types. They are notorious clowns who love to run! Bram does require basic obedience training and a lot of regular exercise to keep him settled. He loves to play and be with people. He has a tendency to be strong willed so he needs an experienced owner who is ready and willing to work with this. Cats are most likely a no for him. An adult only home would be best and a fenced yard would be perfection. He could do well with a well mannered dog of similar size. NOTE:  Adoptions are done via private appointment once an application as been completed and approved. Applications must be submitted at our website, mchs.rescuegroups.org. Keep an eye on your emails if you apply. We are located at 101 22nd St. SE in Austin, right next to the airport. It's exit 180B off of I-90, right off of 218 South. We do require that potential adopters be at least 21 years old and that any resident dogs be up to date on vaccinations, heartworm testing/preventatives, and spayed or neutered.Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.July 16, 2026, 1:57 pm

Story
Don’t let the name fool you. This handsome boy is all dog, all heart, and full of personality. Kitty came to BENCHS as an unclaimed stray from the City of Mankato, and we have since learned more about his background to help us find the right match for him moving forward. Kitty was previously known as Houston and was rehomed in May 2025. He lived as an indoor dog and did well with people, including children ages 8 to 14. He was crate trained overnight, rides well in the car, and enjoys human attention. He is a smart dog who can open certain doors and may slip out of a tie out if it is not secure, so supervision and good management will be important. Kitty weighs about 68 pounds and was born on April 20, 2023. He is a young, energetic dog with a lot of enthusiasm for life and enjoys showing off the commands he already knows. In his previous home, Kitty lived with dogs and did well with a spayed female, but he was involved in a serious incident with an intact male dog. Because of this history, Kitty is dog selective and would do best as the only dog in the home or with careful, experienced placement. He also has a high prey drive and should not live with cats, chickens, or other small animals. Kitty is a bright, powerful young dog who will need a home that can provide structure, clear boundaries, and continued training. With the right environment and guidance, he has the potential to be a loyal and rewarding companion. If you are an experienced dog owner looking for a confident, intelligent dog and are prepared to meet Kitty’s needs, he may be the right fit for you.

Story
Meet Milo, an 8 year old Husky with a calm, gentle personality that's a little different from what you might expect! While he still enjoys the outdoors, he's a mellow guy who is happiest soaking up the sights and sounds of nature. Give him a comfy spot outside and he'll happily spend time watching the trees, wildlife, and everything happening around him. Milo is incredibly friendly, affectionate, and loves to snuggle with his people. He's a quiet, easygoing companion who enjoys his naps just as much as he enjoys relaxing outside. He currently lives peacefully with two cats, has been around children, and is accustomed to spending supervised time outdoors. Milo is carrying extra pounds, so he will need a family who will help him get back to a healthier weight with regular walks and adventures at his own pace. Although he's entering his senior years, don't let his age fool you. As he sheds those extra pounds, we expect he'll become even more active and eager to enjoy time outside with his family. If you're looking for a sweet, laid back companion with the classic Husky good looks and a surprisingly relaxed personality, Milo may be the perfect match for you. Adoption fee is $450+tax, please apply at www.campcompanion.org

Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.Coral is an approximately 8 month old mixed breed girl who came to us from one of our rescue friends. She's a "Rez dog", meaning she was found on a Reservation in South Dakota. These dogs are among some of the most in need dogs around as they face a very uncertain future if not helped. She was under 30 pounds upon arrival and she will likely remain a medium-sized dog. She has been vet checked, spayed, and microchipped, and her fee is $150. Coral has an appearance similar to that of many Rez dogs, and many of them tend to be mixed with shepherd, husky, and herding breeds. We have no way of knowing exactly, though, but Coral is an absolute sweetheart of a dog. She does need some basic obedience training (what's a leash?), but is happy and eager to please. We do think she'd do well with kids and other dogs. Cats? She's young enough to learn to interact appropriately with them.  NOTE:  Adoptions are done via private appointment once an application has been completed and approved.
