Story
Kita enjoys being part of a family “pack.” She has a high prey drive and will chase small animals that run from her. She has bursts of energy, enjoys chew toys (no squeaky toys). She has chased our cats and put her mouth on one. She’s chased & killed several small wild animals in our yard. Kita gets along well with other dogs and does well in a dog park. She had two fights with our older chihuahua (after 6 years without conflict; one 3 years ago (causing serious injury), and recently another fight (sadly resulting in her passing. She gets along with most other animals but her prey drive is an issue. For instance, she allows our cat to lick her ears and groom her, but if another cat tries to creep by and takes off running, Kita will try to chase after it. An ideal home for Kita would be one where she is walked daily, has no small children (calm kids or older kids are fine), and no small animals. She has separation anxiety.

Akira is a breeder release Siberian Husky born December 2017. Akira was extremely timid when she first arrived, but now she is going on walks with our dog walkers. She is still nervous in new situations and startled by unexpected noises, but she is making great progress everyday. She has even started singing recently which we were all very excited to hear. Akira needs an owner that loves and understands huskies and perhaps has another dog to help with the transition to a loving calm home. All pets adopted from the Humane Society of Freeborn County will be spayed or neutered, up to date on age appropriate vaccinations, testing and will be microchipped. All of this is included in their adoption fee. Fill out an application to adopt at freeborncountyhs.org When transitioning your new pet home please allow for at least 4-6 weeks for your pet to adjust to their new home. They will need this time to decompress, and adjust to a new routine and environment. During that time we will provide check ins and counseling to ensure a successful transition. Please review all basic adoption requirements listed on our website before applying. We take finding the right homes for the animals in our care very seriously. They deserve nothing but the best! Please allow 2-7 days for applications to be processed. If an animal is listed in foster care, these pets are not at our facility, but are in foster care homes. They are still available for adoption, and meet and greets are done with pre-approved applicants only. You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.Lexie is a husky who's now over 10 years old, and she has a somewhat sad story. She came to us as an owner surrender on 8/17/2025. Her person moved back to the family farm and Lexie wasn't adjusting well. She was not a fan of the farm cats and made it very well known. Because of this she finds herself with us, looking for a nice retirement home. She is a healthy older dog who has been microchipped, spayed, and fully vetted, and her fee is $125. Lexie is a pretty gentle gal (unless you're a cat) and loves the company of people. She has done well with kids and male dogs as long as they're respectful. A husky savvy home would be great. Obviously, cats are a no and we're erring on the side of caution when it comes to other small animals, too. Lexie is really a beautiful soul who loves to engage in the sing song "talk" of huskies. NOTE:  Adoptions are done via private appointment once an application has been completed and approved. Applications must be submitted at our website, mchs.rescuegroups.org. We are located at 101 22nd St. SE in Austin, right next to the airport. It's exit 180B off of I-90, right off of 218 south. You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.Volunteer fave in the house! Bram arrived at the shelter on 9/29/2024, after he went unclaimed at the city pound. He's a happy and energetic husky mix with icy blue eyes. We do think he's mixed with some type of herding breed. He's friendly and ready for action at all times. He's also very loving. His size is in the medium range and he's around 2 years old. He has been vet checked, neutered, and chipped. His fee is $150. We're hoping to find Bram a home that has some experience with husky types. They are notorious clowns who love to run! Bram does require basic obedience training and a lot of regular exercise to keep him settled. He loves to play and be with people. He has a tendency to be strong willed so he needs an experienced owner who is ready and willing to work with this. Cats are most likely a no for him. An adult only home would be best and a fenced yard would be perfection. He could do well with a well mannered dog of similar size.
