Story
Don’t let the name fool you. This handsome boy is all dog, all heart, and full of personality. Kitty came to BENCHS as an unclaimed stray from the City of Mankato, and we have since learned more about his background to help us find the right match for him moving forward. Kitty was previously known as Houston and was rehomed in May 2025. He lived as an indoor dog and did well with people, including children ages 8 to 14. He was crate trained overnight, rides well in the car, and enjoys human attention. He is a smart dog who can open certain doors and may slip out of a tie out if it is not secure, so supervision and good management will be important. Kitty weighs about 68 pounds and was born on April 20, 2023. He is a young, energetic dog with a lot of enthusiasm for life and enjoys showing off the commands he already knows. In his previous home, Kitty lived with dogs and did well with a spayed female, but he was involved in a serious incident with an intact male dog. Because of this history, Kitty is dog selective and would do best as the only dog in the home or with careful, experienced placement. He also has a high prey drive and should not live with cats, chickens, or other small animals. Kitty is a bright, powerful young dog who will need a home that can provide structure, clear boundaries, and continued training. With the right environment and guidance, he has the potential to be a loyal and rewarding companion. If you are an experienced dog owner looking for a confident, intelligent dog and are prepared to meet Kitty’s needs, he may be the right fit for you.

Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.Flint arrived from the city pound on 1/26/2026. His legal stray hold was finished and no one had claimed him. He's approximately 3 to 4 years old, and he looks to be a husky/shepherd type mix. There could be some Australian shepherd or collie in there, too. He is very loving and personable. He has been fully vetted and microchipped and his fee is reduced to $100. Flint is an active dog who will require regular exercise. He is pretty well mannered and seems to have had a little training but more training is always a plus. He is bright and eager to please. We do think he would do okay with other dogs. He's a happy guy who loves attention. He has been a pretty easy resident to have at our shelter. He doesn't cause any problems and he keeps a perfectly clean kennel. We think he would be okay with older kids. We have no way of knowing about cats. Special Needs: Flint has been observed having a few nonviolent seizures at the shelter. Our vet was consulted and decided to put him on gabapentin to manage the seizures and stop them from becoming more damaging and violent. If the seizures worsen, he will have to go on phenobarbital. Flint also tested positive for Lyme disease, and it's uncertain whether the seizures were caused by the Lyme. Flint is doing well on the medication and is physically healthy, but a potential adopter should be aware of this and willing to monitor him and give him medication for life, if he continues to need it. NOTE:  Adoptions are done via private appointment once an application has been completed and approved. Applications must be submitted at our website, mchs.rescuegroups.org. We are located at 101 22nd St. SE in Austin, right next to the airport. It's exit 180B off of I-90, right off of 218 South. We do require that potential adopters be at least 21 years old and that any resident dogs be up to date on vaccinations, heartworm testing/preventatives, and spayed or neutered.Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.May 1, 2026, 2:43 pm

Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.Crue is an 9-month-old husky mix who was surrendered to MCHS on 4/9/2026. He is a very striking young dog with icy blue eyes like a husky, and we were told he's also mixed with terrier. He may keep a person on their toes, given this combination of breeds! He's a nice-sized boy who is not too large and not too small. He has been vet checked, neutered, and microchipped, and his fee is $150. Crue is an active young dog who will require regular exercise and some training. He is at a wonderful age for training. He is a little skittish at first, but is otherwise friendly and affectionate. He likes the company of other dogs and definitely keeps a close eye on people when he's comfortable with them. We think he'll be a bit of a "velcro" dog. He has done okay with older kids but hasn't had any real experience with cats. NOTE:  Adoptions are done via private appointment once an application has been completed and approved. Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.Volunteer fave in the house! Bram arrived at the shelter on 9/29/2024, after he went unclaimed at the city pound. He's a happy and energetic husky mix with icy blue eyes. We do think he's mixed with some type of herding breed. He's friendly and ready for action at all times. He's also very loving. His size is in the medium range and he's around 3 years old. He has been vet checked, neutered, and chipped. His fee is $150. We're hoping to find Bram a home that has some experience with husky types. They are notorious clowns who love to run! Bram does require basic obedience training and a lot of regular exercise to keep him settled. He loves to play and be with people. He has a tendency to be strong willed so he needs an experienced owner who is ready and willing to work with this. Cats are most likely a no for him. An adult only home would be best and a fenced yard would be perfection. He could do well with a well mannered dog of similar size. NOTE:  Adoptions are done via private appointment once an application as been completed and approved. Applications must be submitted at our website, mchs.rescuegroups.org. Story
Meet Blue-This handsome boy is a sweetheart who just wants to find his forever home. Blue's family had to move overseas and he could not go. It was a little tough on him at first but now he is thriving and just so awesome! Blue is happy, playful, enjoys being with you and a quick learner. Blue is playful with other dogs and walks well on a leash. He loves other dogs and loves romping and playing with squeaky toys. Blue loves his people and enjoys following you around making sure all is well! But if he is not aloowed/invited he respects and learns quickly. Boundaries and expectations are key in Blues life (as it is with any dog) and he follows along well. Blue has great house manners but will howl a bit in the crate at first. Blue enjoys treats and he has lost the extra weight he had when he arrived in rescue. Blue has visited many stores and breweries and is happy to lay under the table! Blue is a gentle, loving pup who loves to play and spend time with his people. Blue is looking for a calm home that will love him forever! If you would like to meet Blue, please visit spotslaststop.org and fill out an application.

Story
Amelia Earhart – The Fearless Explorer Amelia Earhart may be one of the smaller puppies in the litter, but she carries herself with confidence and curiosity. True to her name, she is brave, eager to investigate new spaces, and often one of the first to check out something unfamiliar. Underneath that adventurous spirit is a very sweet girl who loves affection and attention. If you are looking for a petite pup with a bold heart and a soft snuggly side, Amelia Earhart is ready to take off straight into your life. The litters story: During the frigid snow storm at the end of December 8 puppies were born to a brave and sweet mama out in the storm. Mama Alisa and another dog spooned and protected her babies until they were found. Seven babies survived and the little family came into rescue. Mama Alisa was a fantastic mother and, along with their dedicated foster, the babies thrived and grew - turning into the fantastic puppies they are now! If you would like to meet Amelia please visit spotslaststop.org and fill out an application.
