Story
My name is Chomper and I'm not the kind of dog whose world is just black and white. Where some dogs are brown-eyed or blue-eyed, I'm both. Where some dogs' coat colors are easy to describe, mine is... Blue? Tan? White? Merle? A little of each? It's not just that, though. For some dogs, life is good. People are great. That's all they've ever known and all they ever will know. And for some, people are scary and life is tough. For me... it's a little of both. I love people. I'm cuddly and affectionate and I really WANT to be everyone's friend. But I've learned from experience that dogs have to be careful. Not all people are safe. Sometimes, when they move too fast, I get scared and flinch and back away. I do know that there are a lot of good people in the world. People who won't hurt me, ever, no matter what. And I'm looking for one of those. Someone with a gentle soul. You probably want to know if I get along well with other animals and, like everything else... it's not a simple "yes" or "no." In the home I came from, I lived with another dog, cats, and pre-teen kids. But since coming to the shelter, I haven't wanted to be friends with any of the animals I've met. See what I mean about things not being black and white? What I do know for sure is that I'm a good boy. I'm going to be someone's "heart dog" for sure- the one they'll never forget. Are you the kind of person who can help a dog like me heal? Who can hold my paw when I get scared and teach me to expect a beautiful life? Come and meet me. Please. I need you. Please fill out the preliminary at odas.org/canine if you want to visit this youngster!

Story
My name is Harley and I'm ready to have the BEST. SUMMER. EVER! You might not think I look like a summer girl and... well... yes and no. I mean, obviously, I'm a husky. We're snow dogs. But THIS summer is different. Because this is the summer I'm going to find my FOR.EV.ER HOME! I can't wait to see what kind of adventures I'll have! The holidays I'll celebrate! I'm 8 years old, but I've still got plenty of wonderful things ahead. I'm an excellent dog- great house manners, friendly with strangers (I'm not real sure about little eye-level kids, but bigger kids and adults are all cool with me!), super-affectionate and cuddly... just everything you'd want in a best friend. I haven't made any animal friends since I've been in the shelter, but I came from a home with another dog and a cat, so... I'm not ruling it out entirely. I'd be great solo, though- just my human and me. Or my humans and me. I'd be perfect for someone who wants a dog who isn't too young, too little, or too out-of-control wild. I mean, I am a husky, so I've still got brains and energy and the capacity for stubbornness. But I'm an adult. What have you got planned for the summer? If it's "make a new best friend," I think I may have you covered! Just come out and meet me.

Story
Gwen is so cute and totally petite. She is definitely a little husky. She is a bit on the shy side and will need some love and reassurance to build her confidence. Don't we all? Come to the shelter and meet this girl. She is so wonderful and deserving of a fresh start with people who will help build her self esteem. She is good with other dogs too. Gwen is 9 months old and weighs 30 pounds. The adoption fee for adult dogs, seven months and older, is $250. All pets are microchipped, up to date on vaccines, and will be altered prior to adoption. If you are interested in meeting Gwen, please stop by the shelter during open hours or complete an adoption application on our website. If you have an existing dog at home, we recommend bringing it along to meet Gwen.helpingstrays.orgGwen has heartworms and will be starting treatment soon. She would greatly benefit from having a calm home to recuperate in rather than trying to rest in a noisy and stressful shelter environment. If you would like to provide a foster home during Gwen's heartworm treatment, Helping Strays will provide everything you need; the medical care, crate, food, etc. Gwen can still be adopted but will need to come back to the shelter periodically to complete her treatment which is covered in the adoption fee.
