Story
RCHS does not conduct DNA tests on dogs who enter our facility therefore we are unable to guarantee breed or breed mix. Information provided by shelter staff, volunteers, and veterinarians is used to give a best estimate as to a dog’s breed make up. We do our best to inform adopters about the potential breeds for each dog.We are a dog only facility so we do not know how most of our dogs will be with cats. Even if a dog is surrendered to us and said to be good with cats there is no way to be sure the dog will be good with your cats. We do have a 7 day foster-to-adopt program so that you can see how the dog interacts with your cats before adoption.

Story
Alakai is a beautiful boy seeking a family to help him gain some confidence in this big world! When Alakai came to us, he was terrified of everything. Leashes, other dogs, any sound you could think of it was all too much for him. We are very slowly making progress, but he is going to take a lot of time to come around and learn how to be a normal dog. He will need some help learning his basic commands and manners. Continued reward-based training would benefit him greatly. He will need a patient and loving family who will go slowly with him and allow him to do things at his own pace. With any fearful dog, we believe he shouldn't be left unsupervised while going outside to potty as he could be a flight risk. We are hoping that once he gets away from the stress of the shelter, he will be a completely different dog. If you have other animals in your home, we recommend bringing them in to do a meet and greet before taking Alakai home. If you are interested in meeting Alakai, please submit an adoption form on our website: fairfieldcountydogs.com and we will contact you to arrange a time to visit.
