Story
Meet Max, a two and a half year old year old Husky/Samoyed mix weighing 60 pounds.Max is a fluffy, friendly, and outgoing boy with the most adorable “awoos” you’ll ever hear. He was owner surrendered due to his family moving and being unable to take him along, and now he’s ready to find a home that’s just as special as he is.As a Siberian Husky, Max brings all the classic traits of the breed—talkative, social, and full of personality. He enjoys being both outdoors and indoors, soaking up attention wherever his people are. He’s great on leash, loves car rides, and especially enjoys kids and being part of family activities.Max is a big fan of head scratches and affection, and he’ll happily lean in for all the love you’re willing to give. Like many Huskies, he’s not a fan of crates and will need a home that understands his independent streak. He can also be a little opportunistic with trash cans, so a bit of management will go a long way! With other dogs, Max generally does well, though he would prefer to eat separately from them. Otherwise, he’s shown he can be a friendly and easygoing companion. If you’re looking for a fun, vocal, affectionate Husky with a big heart and even bigger personality, Max is ready to “awoo” his way right into your life. This pet is available for adoption on 5.1.26 at the Yakima Humane Society adoption center. Story
Meet Polar, a two-year-old Siberian Husky mix weighing around 50 pounds.Polar is a striking young dog with beautiful ice-blue eyes. He was brought in as a stray and is still figuring out the world around him, so he can seem a little unsure at first. However, every day he’s showing more confidence and starting to warm up as he learns he’s safe.On leash, Polar enjoys taking his time to explore. He’s very much a “follow his nose” kind of guy, taking in all the scents and sights at his own pace. He’s not in a rush—he’s observant, curious, and steadily building trust with the people around him. He has met another dog while with us and seems to prefer other dogs that are low-key. He tells off dogs with too much puppy energy because he just wants to chill so he would be also fine as an only dog if that is what you want. Based on his appearance and temperament, Polar likely has Siberian Husky traits. Siberian Huskies are intelligent, independent, and energetic working dogs originally bred to pull sleds over long distances in harsh Arctic conditions. They are known for their endurance, strong prey drive, and love of exploration. Huskies are often social and friendly, but can be a bit aloof or independent-minded, especially in new environments. They tend to thrive with patient handling, consistent structure, and plenty of physical and mental stimulation.Polar is still adjusting, but with time, patience, and gentle guidance, he’s likely to continue blossoming into a confident and engaging companion. He’s looking for someone who understands his independent spirit and is ready to help him grow at his own pace. This pet is available for adoption on 4/19/2026 at 5:19 PM at the Yakima Humane Society adoption center. Story
Meet Skinny, a one-year-old Border Collie/Husky mix weighing 63 pounds.Skinny is a gentle soul who’s ready for a fresh start. Skinny was found as a stray after spending about a week on the run before animal control was finally able to bring him to safety. Since arriving, he has shown himself to be a very sweet boy, though the world is still a little overwhelming for him right now.Everything seems new to Skinny, and while he can be nervous in unfamiliar situations, he truly wants to please and looks to people for reassurance. Despite likely having very little experience before coming in, he has already surprised everyone by walking nicely on a leash and trying his best to learn.Skinny will thrive in a patient, caring home that can give him the time, love, and socialization he needs to build confidence. With some TLC, gentle guidance, and consistency, this sweet boy has all the potential to become a loyal and loving companion. This pet is available for adoption on 5/24/2026 3:22 PM at the Yakima Humane Society adoption center.
