Story
Hello… I’m Joan, and I’d love to share a little bit about myself. Maybe my story will sound like exactly what you’ve been looking for. I’m a gentle, two&#226&#128&#145year&#226&#128&#145old girl weighing around 25 pounds, with a soft white coat decorated by tan patches that make me look a bit like a watercolor painting. I come from a big family — my mom, my dad, my three siblings, and me — and we all ended up together at a California shelter when our world suddenly shifted. We’d spent our whole lives side by side, and then everything changed overnight. Even with all that uncertainty, I’ve held onto my quiet optimism. I’m naturally curious, hopeful, and ready for a new beginning. Right now, I’m staying at Central Arizona Animal Rescue, where the volunteers have been incredibly kind. They say I’m one of the “light-colored girls” in the group, and people often stop to admire my soft markings and sweet expression. I don’t think much about how I look, but I do know I love gentle hands, calm voices, and people who move slowly enough for me to understand what’s happening. I’m friendly and social, just like the rest of my family, but I’m still learning what it means to live in a human world. Before arriving here, I don’t think I ever lived inside a home. Everything indoors feels new and a little mysterious — couches, hallways, the strange hum of appliances, even the idea of walking politely on a leash. Words like “sit” and “stay” are still things I’m figuring out, but I’m smart and eager to learn. I just need someone patient who understands that I’m starting from scratch. I promise I’ll give you my whole heart and try my best every day. I’m not a noisy dog, and I don’t have a wild, high&#226&#128&#145energy personality. I’m more of a calm, steady companion who likes to watch and understand before jumping into anything unfamiliar. I warm up quickly once I know you’re kind, and I love being close to people who make me feel safe. I haven’t met cats or small children yet, so I’m not sure how I’d feel about them, but I do wonderfully with gentle humans who give me time to adjust. The rescue has taken excellent care of me. I’ve been spayed, vaccinated, and microchipped, so I’m all ready for my next chapter. What I need now is a home where I can truly grow — a place where I can learn what it means to belong, to be loved, and to have a family of my own. I imagine quiet mornings with soft sunlight, cozy beds where I can curl up, slow walks as I practice leash skills, and peaceful evenings resting nearby while you unwind. I imagine trust. I imagine routine. I imagine finally feeling like I’m home. Maybe you’re imagining that too. I may not know everything yet, but I do know this: I have a gentle spirit, a big heart, and so much love waiting for the right person. I’m ready for a fresh start. I’m ready for someone who chooses me. If you’d like to meet me — or even meet the rest of my family — you can email mike@caaronline.org to set up a visit. We’re all here at Central Arizona Animal Rescue, each of us hoping for a forever home where we can grow into the dogs we were always meant to be. Maybe I’m meant to be yours.   PLEASE e-mail (do not call) mike@caaronline.org for more information and to set up an appointment to adopt. Do not e-mail us with a request to call you, if you have a question, please ask in the e-mail.   All dogs are adopted on a first come - first served basis. Story
Meet Shirley — A Sweet Soul Ready for Her Forever Home Some dogs have a way of capturing your heart the moment you meet them, and Shirley is absolutely one of those dogs. With her soft blond coat, gentle eyes, and warm, hopeful spirit, she’s the kind of companion who makes every day feel a little brighter. Now, after an unexpected journey that brought her all the way from California to Central Arizona Animal Rescue, she’s ready to find the loving home she truly deserves. Shirley’s story begins in California, where she ended up in the pound along with her entire family — her two sisters, her brother, and even her mom and dad. It’s rare to see a whole canine family come through together, and it speaks to how closely bonded they were. Thankfully, caring people stepped in to help, arranging safe transport for Shirley so she could start fresh in Arizona. She’s now safe, healthy, and waiting patiently for someone special to discover her. About Shirley Shirley is about 2 years old, a wonderful age where she’s past the puppy chaos but still full of youthful energy and curiosity. She weighs a comfortable 25–30 pounds, making her a great size for someone who wants a dog who’s sturdy enough for outdoor fun but still easy to handle and snuggle. Her coat is a beautiful light blond, short and smooth, and very easy to care for. A quick brushing now and then and the occasional bath are all she needs to stay looking her best. Her soft coloring gives her a gentle, almost angelic appearance — and her personality matches it perfectly. Based on her siblings and their features, Shirley may be a mix of Jack Russell Terrier and Shiba Inu, a combination known for intelligence, alertness, and a sweet, loyal nature. Whatever her exact mix, she’s a lovely, unique girl with a look all her own. Her Personality Shirley is friendly, social, and eager to connect with people and other dogs. She enjoys meeting new friends and has a calm, approachable presence that makes her easy to love. Whether she’s quietly observing the world around her or wagging her tail at a visitor, she radiates a gentle charm. Because her past is somewhat unknown, there are still a few things we haven’t been able to test. We don’t yet know how she feels about cats or small children, simply because she hasn’t been around them in our care. She may do wonderfully — we just haven’t had the chance to find out. She also may not have lived indoors before, so she’ll need a patient adopter who can help her learn the routines of home life. With kindness and consistency, she’s sure to adapt beautifully. ‍♀️ Training & Care Shirley is spayed, microchipped, and current on all vaccinations, so she’s fully prepared to start her new life. She’s working on her leash skills and could use a bit more practice, but she’s eager to learn and responds well to gentle guidance. With a little time and encouragement, she’ll be a wonderful walking companion. Her short coat makes grooming simple, and her size makes her a great fit for a variety of homes — whether you have a yard, enjoy daily walks, or simply want a sweet companion by your side. Ready to Meet Shirley? Shirley is ready for a home where she can feel safe, loved, and part of a family. She’s the kind of dog who will reward your patience with loyalty, affection, and a lifetime of companionship. If you’d like to meet this beautiful girl and see if she’s the perfect match for your home, please email mike@caaronline.org to set up an appointment. Shirley can’t wait to meet you and start her new life.   PLEASE e-mail (do not call) mike@caaronline.org for more information and to set up an appointment to adopt. MEET  JACK #11!!! Jack is a sweet boy. He does love to play! Jack loves to learn and learns new things quickly! Jack is not real fond of strangers so he will do best in a home that does not have a lot of new people coming into the home on a regular basis. Meeting new people is just a bit too scary for him. Jack is house trained, crate trained and walks well on a leash. We recommend only older, (teen and up) considerate children be in the home. This little boy just wants a person who will love him and give him a safe space to be himself. Give Jack a little time to trust, and he will be an amazing boy! Meet Jack today! Story
Hilda is looking for her knights in shining armor! This darling damsel is 9.8 pounds of pure sweetness and curiosity. While she might not know what toys are, she enjoys following her people around the house and getting pets while she’s sitting beside you on the couch or cuddling into a cozy blanket on the bed. She’s had her heart broken in the past so she needs a bit of time and patience, but that just means that you’ll get to see her blossom as she learns how wonderful you are! As her foster mom so eloquently put it, this precious pup just wants to be loved. At five years old, she has lots of love left to give, so come be Hilda’s hero and adopt her today! Good with: Other dogs, snacks, cozy blankets, tagging along to see what you’re doing, gentle pets Not good with: Leashes. She’s a bit scared of leashes, though she’s fine being carried! Housetrained: Yes Breed: Terrier and Schnauzer Size: 9.8 lbs Gender: Female
