Story
Hello… I’m Joan, and I’d love to share a little bit about myself. Maybe my story will sound like exactly what you’ve been looking for. I’m a gentle, two‑year‑old girl weighing around 25 pounds, with a soft white coat decorated by tan patches that make me look a bit like a watercolor painting. I come from a big family — my mom, my dad, my three siblings, and me — and we all ended up together at a California shelter when our world suddenly shifted. We’d spent our whole lives side by side, and then everything changed overnight. Even with all that uncertainty, I’ve held onto my quiet optimism. I’m naturally curious, hopeful, and ready for a new beginning. Right now, I’m staying at Central Arizona Animal Rescue, where the volunteers have been incredibly kind. They say I’m one of the “light-colored girls” in the group, and people often stop to admire my soft markings and sweet expression. I don’t think much about how I look, but I do know I love gentle hands, calm voices, and people who move slowly enough for me to understand what’s happening. I’m friendly and social, just like the rest of my family, but I’m still learning what it means to live in a human world. Before arriving here, I don’t think I ever lived inside a home. Everything indoors feels new and a little mysterious — couches, hallways, the strange hum of appliances, even the idea of walking politely on a leash. Words like “sit” and “stay” are still things I’m figuring out, but I’m smart and eager to learn. I just need someone patient who understands that I’m starting from scratch. I promise I’ll give you my whole heart and try my best every day. I’m not a noisy dog, and I don’t have a wild, high‑energy personality. I’m more of a calm, steady companion who likes to watch and understand before jumping into anything unfamiliar. I warm up quickly once I know you’re kind, and I love being close to people who make me feel safe. I haven’t met cats or small children yet, so I’m not sure how I’d feel about them, but I do wonderfully with gentle humans who give me time to adjust. The rescue has taken excellent care of me. I’ve been spayed, vaccinated, and microchipped, so I’m all ready for my next chapter. What I need now is a home where I can truly grow — a place where I can learn what it means to belong, to be loved, and to have a family of my own. I imagine quiet mornings with soft sunlight, cozy beds where I can curl up, slow walks as I practice leash skills, and peaceful evenings resting nearby while you unwind. I imagine trust. I imagine routine. I imagine finally feeling like I’m home. Maybe you’re imagining that too. I may not know everything yet, but I do know this: I have a gentle spirit, a big heart, and so much love waiting for the right person. I’m ready for a fresh start. I’m ready for someone who chooses me. If you’d like to meet me — or even meet the rest of my family — you can email mike@caaronline.org to set up a visit. We’re all here at Central Arizona Animal Rescue, each of us hoping for a forever home where we can grow into the dogs we were always meant to be. Maybe I’m meant to be yours.
