Story
(DOB 01/05/2024) Due to Femoral Head Ostectomy (FHO) surgery Barney will need surgery and our rescue will cover the cost. For this reason, he is available for adoption within a 1-hour drive time of Wake Forest NC. Barney is a small, chill sweetheart who is all about the quiet, cozy life. With his calm and laid-back personality, he’s the perfect match for a retired person or couple or anyone who’s home most of the time and not looking for a high-energy dog. Barney’s idea of a perfect day is simple: snuggled up on the couch with his favorite person, soaking up love and giving kisses in return. This gentle boy is happy, loyal, and incredibly affectionate. He’s a true lap dog who loves attention, pets, and being close to his humans. Toys don’t really interest Barney; he would much rather relax beside you than play. He’s social with people and other dogs, easily redirected, eager to please, and has a sweet mix of independence and devotion that makes him an easy companion. Barney could thrive in an apartment, condo, or townhome and doesn’t need a fenced yard. He’d do well with other dogs around his size and similar low energy, but he’d be just as content as your one-and-only couch potato partner. Wherever he is, as long as he’s with you, he’s happy. Like many little dogs, Barney is still working on a few things and will need a patient, loving home. He has some separation anxiety, so a home where someone is around most of the time or wants to take him along on outings would be ideal. The good news? Barney loves car rides and is an awesome travel buddy. He’s not a fan of the crate and is still improving his leash skills. He’s also continuing to work on house training and will need regular potty breaks (about six times a day) to help him succeed. Barney is on the shy side when meeting strangers, so just give him a little time. If there are kids in his next chapter, they should be older, calmer kids. He has not had an opportunity to meet cats yet. He lives with his foster mom and her little doggies.  If you’re looking for a little, loyal, lovable companion who’s happiest curled up by your side, Barney just might be your perfect match. As part of Barney’s $300 adoption fee, he will be neutered, microchipped, up to date on age-appropriate vaccines, and current on his monthly flea/tick and heartworm preventatives. If you have questions about this sweet pup, you can email: Dogteam@pawsforlifenc.org. If you wish to adopt Barney, you can complete an online application for him under the Adopt a Pet Tab on our website: www.pawsforlifenc.org. ##2633251##

Story
If you’re looking for a little sugar with a sprinkle of sass, Candy might be your perfect match. This petite sweetheart has settled beautifully into her foster home and gets along well with her dog siblings—she loves a good play session and happily tosses toys around like it’s her full-time job. Candy could absolutely be a devoted one-person pup (she loves having “her” human), but she can also thrive in a home with others. When it’s snuggle time, though, she prefers VIP access to her favorite person—sharing the spotlight isn’t really her thing. 😉 She’s house-trained and will politely let you know when she needs to go out. Candy sleeps quietly through the night in her crate like a perfect angel. During the day, she can feel a bit anxious if crated for long stretches, so she’d do best with someone who’s retired, works from home, or simply isn’t gone for extended hours. The good news? She’s not destructive when left alone for shorter periods. Candy walks fairly well on leash and truly enjoys her strolls—though polishing up those leash manners would make her even more of a superstar. She already knows “sit” and is working hard on “come.” Smart and eager to please! One important note: Candy is vocal, so she’s not suited for apartment or townhouse living. She likes to use her voice and would be happiest in a detached home where she can express herself without bothering neighbors. Candy is sweet, playful, loyal, and full of personality. With the right family who appreciates her cuddly devotion and gives her the companionship she craves, she will make a truly wonderful addition.
