RESCUE ONLYMeet Mickey, a handsome Great Pyrenees/Kangal Shepherd Dog mix that arrived on 12/27 at the Mesquite Animal Shelter as a stray. Mickey weighs 68 pounds and is 3 years of age. He is listed as Rescue Only due to the fact that his behavior is somewhat unpredictable. We have a volunteer that has come to work with him, and Mickey is seeming to relax and feel more comfortable. However, he is a work in progress as he is fearful and uneasy in the shelter environment. He needs to develop trust and confidence. His foster will need to provide plenty of patience and TLC and of course decompression time. He appears to have been well cared for. It seems as though the shelter environment is overwhelming for this boy. He does have herding tendencies and possibly has been a working dog. Shelter staff will continue to assess his progress.
