Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.Mouse King is one of the Nutcracker Suite puppies who looks more like his dad, a purebred Komondor, than his mom, an Anatolian Shepherd. In their first home, these puppies were living with chickens, ducks, geese, a couple of goats, dogs, barn cats, and a few assorted other animals so they have had a great diversity of exposure. When he was VERY young (just a few weeks old) Mouse King suffered a traumatic brain injury believed to have been caused by a goat either kicking him or head-butting him when his skull was still puppy-soft. He seems healthy and robust, and he is growing like a weed, but his intellectual development seems delayed compared to his siblings. For example, he loves taking treats from my hand, but he doesn't seem to comprehend the concept of SIT, which his sisters learned in just a couple of days. Mouse King is really playful with other pups and sometimes seems a little more rambunctious than they are, as though he has no inhibitions. If another pup corrects him to tell him he's being too rough, he cries and backs off. He settles very quickly in the barn, but is more rowdy when outside. With all of this in mind, we don't think Mouse King should be adopted as a future LGD. He could be a wonderful PET on a small homestead where he could live around livestock. But he could also go to a traditional suburban home with no livestock, with another playful dog as his companion. In our experience with another dog who had a traumatic brain injury as a wee pup, her developmental delays did not inhibit her house/potty-training, so our expectation is that Mouse King could learn house manners too. If you have a heart for special needs pups, we hope you'll consider Mouse King. In our experience, the only real accommodation needed was to keep expectations reasonable -- to be willing to love the pup and not worry too much about obedience training. Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.Lady Pink is the most skittish of the Apple Dumpling Gang pups. Her mom is a pinto Anatolian Shepherd who is an excellent LGD, and dad is a Komondor, also an excellent LGD. These pups were born on a small homestead in the Texas hill country with a few goats, LOTS of chickens, geese, and turkeys, plus a few other types of livestock. Lady Pink was bullied by one of the adult dogs on the property, so she spent most of her first few months of life hiding under the house, not interacting with people. She gets along well with other dogs, but even after many months here with us, Lady Pink is still very skittish. She will take a treat from me, but it takes a few minutes of coaxing her to sit still for her to let me pet her. I've been trying to teach her to walk on a leash, but she still thinks it's an instrument of torture, so she fights the leash. Because of her background, she might be OK in a home with a flock of backyard chickens, but she is too small to be considered for a job as a livestock guardian. She does have a big bark, and she barks at strangers, whether human or canine. What she really needs is a home with someone who is home most of the time, and has the patience to work to overcome her fear. She also needs a home with a confident dog to be her friend and mentor, to show her that people can be trusted. If Lady Pink's sweet face touches your heart, please consider submitting your application. We would be glad to move her into a foster home in case you are not sure if you're cut out to adopt a skittish dog. Just to be clear, she has never shown any aggression -- she's just not sure about humans and you really have to work to earn her trust.Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.March 7, 2026, 7:05 pm

Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.SugarPlum is one of the Nutcracker Suite pups and is a solid whitish/biscuit color like her Komondor dad, but has a smooth coat like her mom Sasha, an Anatolian Shepherd. In their first home, this family lived with chickens, ducks, geese, a couple of goats, dogs, barn cats, and a few assorted other animals so they have had a great diversity of exposure. Since coming to Bluebonnet, SugarPlum has lived part-time in the pasture with our Nigerian Dwarf goats, and part-time in the house. SugarPlum weighed 74 lbs at her last vet visit, and we think she should stay about that weight, maybe gaining a couple of pounds by the time she's 3 years old. Her mom is currently about 80 lbs and dad is over 100 lbs. SugarPlum is playful with other dogs, but actually seems to prefer the company of an adult dog (Tyana) who looks very much like her. Maybe there's truth to the old saying "Birds of a feather flock together."  SugarPlum settles nicely when she has the opportunity to get attention/petting from a human and she is quick to sit for a treat. We think SugarPlum would be great as a family pet or maybe on a small homestead where she could be trusted around the livestock (with proper introductions and supervision) but would be primarily a pet and not a true LGD. Apply on our website to make SugarPlum part of your family!Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.May 30, 2026, 12:13 am

Story
Meet Lainey— the sweet star of the “Western Singer Sisters” trio, rescued from a rural area east of Dallas and now ready to trade survival mode for the good life! At just 5 months old and 28 pounds, Lainey is already proving she’s the full package: beauty, brains, and a little bit of Pyrenees-style opinionated charm. This Great Pyrenees/Shepherd mix is expected to grow into a large breed dog with an even larger personality. She’s incredibly smart, eager to learn, and has quickly mastered the important puppy priorities: playing hard, eating enthusiastically, and napping like a professional. Lainey absolutely loves other dogs and would thrive in a home with a playful canine companion to continue teaching her the ropes. She’s happiest when she has room to stretch her legs, people around who adore her, and a comfy spot to crash after a busy day of puppy adventures. Now, let’s talk Pyrenees. If you know, you know. These dogs are loyal, intelligent, hilarious, and wonderfully stubborn. They don’t just live with you… they supervise you. Because of her breed mix, Lainey is looking for experienced dog owners with a large securely fenced yard, another playful dog, and humans who are home more often than not.  We recommend placing female pyrenees in homes where they will be the only princess, meaning only female, as they do tend to be a tad bossy with other adult female dogs.  If you’re searching for a loyal sidekick with movie-star looks, a brilliant mind, and just enough sass to keep life entertaining, Lainey may be your perfect match. Ready to be owned by a Pyrenees? Complete an adoption application at www.dsda.org/adopt.   To meet Lainey in person visit us at www.dsda.org/adopt and submit our online adoption application.  ADOPTION FEE Covers: Core vaccines plus Lepto and Flu, all boosters, microchip, dewormer until clear fecal test & spay or neuter when completed by a DSDA vet partner plus any necessary medical care.  All dogs are on flea, tick and heartworm prevention and you receive the following month's preventatives complementary with your adoption!  * Adoption Fees: Puppies (12 months and under) - $325  Dogs (over 12 months) - $275  Qualifications for Adoption:  No dog is alike and each dog has different requirements based on breed, age, energy level and life experiences. Story
Rose is a 5 year old 85 pound gorgeous calm & sweet Great Pyrenees/Cattle Dog mix (best guess!).  She is happy and healthy and would love a home with an owner willing to take her on 2+ daily walks.  if you are looking for a dog who enjoys helping you get your steps in Rose is your girl!   A home with a fenced yard & owner who is home a lot who looks forward to spending time together is ideal. Rose would do great in a family with older kids who dote on her or no kids at all is perfrct, too.   She likes to hang with her people whomever that might be.  From her foster mom, "Best Dog!". She just celebrated her 5th birthday!
