Story
Hi, I’m Theo.I’m a gentle, sensitive guy looking for someone who understands that some of us need a little more time to feel safe.New people and new experiences can be overwhelming for me, so I’d love a quiet home with a patient person who won’t rush me. I came in with my friends Kumura and Ludo, and I still enjoy play dates with them. Having a friendly, confident dog around helps me, so I would really benefit from having a canine friend in my new home.I’m not looking for someone to change me overnight. I’m looking for someone who will give me the chance to learn, trust, and blossom at my own pace.Sometimes the quiet ones just need someone willing to wait for them.

Story
Hi, I'm Butch.I've been told that patience is a virtue, which is great, because I've been practicing it for almost three years here at the shelter. Don't get me wrong, I've made lots of friends, perfected my sunbathing skills, and become somewhat of an expert in spotting lizards. But I think I'm finally ready to retire from shelter life and move into a home of my own.I'm about 50 pounds of goofy charm, loyalty, and optimism. I love adventures, appreciate a good snack (okay, a great snack), and firmly believe that every sunny spot was put on this earth for dogs like me to enjoy. I can make ordinary days a lot more fun, and at the end of the day, I'm happiest just being with my people.I'm not in a hurry, but I am hopeful. After almost three years, I'd really love to know what it's like to have a couch that's mine, a routine that's mine, and a family that's mine. I know my person is out there somewhere. Maybe they've just been taking the scenic route to find me.If you're looking for a loyal, funny, big-hearted companion who's ready to trade kennel life for forever, I think we should meet.Shelter Notes: Butch is an affectionate, adventurous dog who has been waiting nearly three years for his forever home. He enjoys exploring, relaxing in the sun, and spending time with his people. Butch is available for adoption or foster and is also eligible for the Pets for Patriots program for qualifying veterans. To meet Butch, please give us a call at 928-634-7387.

Story
Max was discovered alone, on a remote road on the Navajo reservation at about 8 weeks of age, waiting to be a coyote meal. The great folks at RezRoads Rescue took him in, and he was then transferred to BLC. Max has been raised and is cared for in every way possible to set him up for a long, healthy, happy life. He started on a complete raw food diet as a baby and continues today. He gets a daily raw beef neck bone and as a result his teeth are immaculate. He has not been neutered but instead has had a vasectomy to maintain his sex hormones, as we know these are key for proper musculoskeletal development and a healthy life. Max gets daily exercise which includes off-leash treks in the desert and at the river, as well as formal leash walks around town. He weighs 70 lbs, is fit, very athletic, and a competent swimmer. Although his DNA breed test shows he has a significant amount of Great Pyrenees, he really is more typey of the traditional American working labrador retrievers (as opposed to the English show dog type), very athletic and likes to be be working or doing something. Max has been vaccinated for parvovirus, distemper, canine hepatitis, and received a thimerosal-free rabies vaccination. He has been titer tested for parvovirus and distemper. He has never worn a flea collar or been given any flea or tick products. He is 18 months old. Max is a sweetheart and not only adores his people but loves his dog pals. He doesn't have a bad bone in his body. He is very attached to his people and will always make sure he is in the same room or at least very close. He can be taken anywhere in public spaces and he'll be a complete gentleman. He is not bothered by high traffic, crowds, or loud noises. Thunder and fireworks are meaningless to him. He's been around highly reactive, aggressive dogs and maintains a calm state. He has great house manners; no counter surfing and no resource guarding. As much as he enjoys eating, he knows to never bother another dog's bowl of food, even if the other dog has not finished eating and left. He has never been in a crate, rather he has been taught to have proper manners in the house. He's been around livestock and does not bother them. His impulse control is outstanding. Max has had a DNA test for both breeds and health. The health results show he has one variant of gene ATP7B, which is not uncommon in Labrador Retrievers, and which may put him at a higher risk of copper accumulation in the liver. He is not fed any food which has added synthetic copper or foods naturally high in copper such as beef liver, shellfish, or supplements with added copper. The test for possible liver issues due to excess copper storage is a simple liver blood panel. A rise in ALT is a possible indicator of excess copper accumulation. Max had his liver markers tested in February, and they were all normal. Feeding him for this genetic variant will be easy for anyone who already feeds a species appropriate diet (real food, no synthetics/fillers). Here is what he would like in his perfect world: A family seasoned in caring for every aspect of a dog's well-being, including providing training, structure, rules, consistency, rewards, and corrections. A family that incorporates him into as many life activities as possible. He would like to go everywhere with his people. As a youngster he still has a lot of play in him and another young dog in the family as a playmate would be ideal. His family will be ecstatic at the opportunity to adopt a healthy, unneutered rescue dog since they understand the importance of sex hormones for both healthspan and lifespan. His family will be dialed into a proper canine diet as well as the truths and myths of vaccinations/immunity. BLC is a follower of the many immunology studies and science of Dr. Ronald Schultz and the University of Wisconsin School of Veterinary Medicine's Department of Pathobiological Sciences. It's very important to him to be able to snuggle with his people while sleeping at night. The screening process may include an online application, telephone discussion, meeting the dog, references checked, and home check. If you are interested in learning more about Max, please send an email to bigluckclub@gmail.com to introduce yourself.

Story
Hi, I'm Axton! Much like my brother, I've been told I'm pretty handsome, and honestly, I'm not here to argue with that. I'm a puppy, which means I'm full of energy, curiosity, and big plans that usually involve running around, playing, and figuring out what absolutely everything tastes like.Nobody knows who my mom and dad are, but based on my size and looks, I may grow to be 40 pounds or more. What I do know is that I'm looking for a family who wants an active, fun-loving, and very good-looking best friend. I'll need training, exercise, patience, and plenty of attention while I learn all the important dog things. If you're looking for a puppy who can keep you laughing, keep you moving, and look adorable while doing it, I think we should meet. Plus, I hear having a handsome face is a pretty important life skill, and I've already mastered that part.**Shelter Notes:** Axton is a young, active puppy who will thrive with a family committed to training, exercise, and enrichment. If you'd like to meet Axton, please give us a call at 928-634-7387.

Hi, I'm Hercules! And yes, I know that's a pretty big name to live up to, but I think I'm doing a pretty good job. I may not wear a cape, but I do have a wagging tail, a goofy smile, and enough personality to keep life interesting.I've been told I have a face that's hard to resist, and honestly, I don't disagree. I'm a happy, energetic guy who loves to play, explore, and make my humans laugh. But don't let all that superhero energy fool you, when the adventures are over, I'm more than happy to cash in on some cuddle time.My dream home has a yard where I can run, play, and show off my heroic zoomie skills. I absolutely love attention and may secretly believe that I deserve my own fan club. I'm also a pretty smart cookie and enjoy learning new things, so training isn't really work for me, it's just another way to spend time with my favorite people and show off how clever I am.I'm looking for a family that's ready for fun, laughter, adventures, and maybe a little bit of harmless mischief along the way. In return, I promise loyalty, love, and enough personality to fill your entire house. If you're searching for a handsome sidekick who's ready to be your best friend and personal superhero, I think we should meet.Shelter Notes: Hercules is an affectionate, active, and intelligent dog who will thrive with a family committed to providing exercise, enrichment, training, and plenty of attention. He would love a secure yard where he can run and play. Hercules is also eligible for the Pets for Patriots program for qualifying veterans. To meet Hercules, please give us a call at 928-634-7387.

Hi, I'm Scrunchie! Yes, like the hair tie. And just like a good scrunchie, I'm pretty sure I'm exactly what your life has been missing.I'm a 60-pound lover boy with a big personality, an even bigger heart, and enough energy to keep things interesting. I love to play, I love adventures, and I especially love people. In fact, after all the running, playing, and zoomies are done, my favorite thing in the world is soaking up affection and giving out plenty of love in return.I've been waiting here at the shelter for over 2½ years. That's a really long time for a guy like me, and honestly, I'm ready to find my forever family. I know my perfect people are out there somewhere, hopefully with a fenced yard because zoomies are one of my specialties. I'd also be happy to meet any potential doggy siblings because making friends is always worth a try.I know I may not be a tiny puppy anymore, but what I can offer is something even better: a loyal best friend who already knows how much a forever home means. If you're looking for a dog who will fill your days with laughter, adventures, and unconditional love, I think we should meet.Shelter Notes: Scrunchie is an active, affectionate dog who enjoys playtime, exercise, and spending time with his people.
