Story
Bear is about 4 years old. He is a gentle dog and is excellent with kids. He is always happy and eager to meet new people and to show-off his toys. He is a quiet dog who likes to sleep a lot, he will not bark to be let in. The only time he really barks is when he is inside and "protecting" the house, he'll bark if he hears outside noise and go to a window to check it out. Bear has hip dysplasia so he is not an active dog and he can't go for anything other than short walks so it would work best if Bear has an enclosed backyard to play in. To help with the hip dysplasia Bear is kept at a low weight around 50 -55 lbs and takes Nutramax Cosequin Hip & Joint Maximum Strength Plus MSM Chewable Tablets Joint Supplement with his daily food. We are sad to let Bear go but there has been a change in Bear's human family that makes it really hard to give Bear all the love and attention he deserves.

Story
This is Lucky. We (two young adults graduating college) adopted him about one month ago from the shelter where we fell in love with him. Prior to being adopted, he lived in a rural home with a backyard. We brought him home into our apartment and knew there would be some adjustment periods, but thought we could do it. We regularly take him to the park where he LOVES to play with other dogs and owners, and then come home to nap for hours once hes tuckered out. We have yet to hear him bark, and he loves attention from anyone, and is super gentle with kids. He’s never bit (but does chomp his jaws when he’s excited). Unfortunately, we think we’re doing a disservice to him, he needs a backyard to be able to go out in rather than just 1 hour a day at the dog park. It’s our hope that someone with more space than we have can take him in and love him as much as we do. We have all of his papers and supplies (bed, toys, leashes, cage blankets) Please give our boy a chance at a loving home.

Story
** PLEASE NOTE, THIS IS A COURTESY POST AND KADY IS NOT AT THE SHELTER. For more information on Kady please contact Sarah at sbincali@yahoo.com **    We are looking for some help placing a sweet girl with the perfect human! (We are in West Sacramento) Sweet 8 year old foster Lab/Great Pyrenees mix seeking single female human companion “Kady is a healthy 8 year old Pyrenees/ Labrador spayed female. She has enjoyed life as a daily companion to a single older female from the time she was a puppy. She spent her days on a horse farm part time, where she interacted with horses and cats- so knows the ropes in a rural setting. The other half of the time, she lived in the suburbs and enjoyed long daily walks and hikes with her owner, while at night she would curl up on the bed. Tragedy befell her in August when her owner suddenly became ill and died of acute onset myelogenous leukemia within just 45 short days. Kady has lived in a boarding kennel since then, but recently was moved into foster care while she looks for her new loving family. She is very personable and friendly, but has only ever known life with one owner. She is a very smart dog and walks well on a leash (she’s a big girl & can pull or get excited when she sees something she wants to go after so you need to pay attention while getting to know her mannerisms). She has not had health issues and currently is not on any medications. She is a bit overweight from sitting in a boarding kennel for several months, but some daily walks are helping correct that in short order. She is current on her vaccines and deworming and is ready for her new forever home. Can you be that person?” We had hoped our family would be a good fit for her as we receive y lost our 13+ year old fur baby. Unfortunately, she’s been telling us she needs a home closer to what she had with her previous owner. My husband is home all day but I work outside the home Sadly she will howl & bark inconsolably while I’m gone and has started to exhibit protective behaviors of me when I get home. She did great with a house-full of guests at thanksgiving but it’s very evident she gravitates to women & she would prefer not to share her human on a daily basis. (We think she may be hard of hearing ..either that or she has selective hearing like a two year old ). We know the perfect human companion is out there just waiting for her unconditional love     ** PLEASE NOTE, THIS IS A COURTESY POST AND KADY IS NOT AT THE SHELTER. For more information on Kady please contact Sarah at sbincali@yahoo.com **  All animals are up-to-date on vaccinations (including rabies if over 4 months old), microchipped, and spayed or neutered. All dogs have been been vaccinated with DHPP and Bordatella (kennel cough) and heartworm tested negative (if over 6 months).    All cats have been vaccinated with FVRCP and current on flea control. Lucky is a super sweet, gentle giant. He was great with the other dogs at the event: he tolerated the super playful ones, and was respectful of a little dog who did not want him in her space. He was awesome with the children at the event, too. He took treats gently and let them pet him. In general, he was extremely friendly with everyone, and loved get pats and lean on people.  All animals are up-to-date on vaccinations (including rabies if over 4 months old), microchipped, and spayed or neutered. My name`s Frank! This shelter place kinda freaked me out at first honestly, but the nice people here have made me feel better. I`m still a puppy so I`d like to grow up in a nice warm home if I could! I`m warming up to people petting me, and I am getting better on a leash. I`m a little scared of loud noises still though. One thing I do like is toys, since I`m just a pupper. I`m kenneled with some other doggies now so might do OK with your dogs with a slow intro. Come meet me today!

These pups are in Davis, California too!

Story
We are open to Foster-to-Adopt program for Gavin. We will do our best to find a perfect home for Gavin to avoid any possible return. We are looking for a family who could give him unconditional love regardless his size and strength. Gavin is a perfect family/companion dog who enjoys any type of activities that the family may offer. ***ATTENETION*** We are looking for an experienced owner who is able to handle tugs at the leash when Gavin gets excited, direct Gavin when he barks, create a safe environment when visitors visit, able to follow trainer’s recommendation to continue train him. After 3 years of adoption, Gavin was returned to our organization due to owner’s age. Gavin is a Golden Retriever Mix with a very mellow personality. He is a calm dog that adapts to a new environment very well. He gets along with children (from toddler to teenager) and strangers (regardless gender and size). Anyone can pet him and he also loves being pet. He is a smart dog and knows to use doggy door within 3 days by learning from other dogs. He is potty trained and never had any incident when living in a new environment. He knows commands “sit”, “paw” and “down”. He does not beg for food and always patiently wait for his food. He fits in parties/large gatherings very well. Breed: Golden Retriever Mix Gender: Male Age: 6 years (DOB: 10/01/2017) Weight: 80lbs (as of 01/30/24) Dogs: Neutral toward dogs. Gets along very well with dogs with all ages and sizes. Cat/Guinea Pig/Rabbit: Would take a little bit of time to get him used to a certain cat. Not recommend for families with active cats/guinea pig/rabbit or any prey animals. Adults/Kids: Gets along well with adults or kid Strangers: Good with strangers Unfamiliar Sounds: Will alert owner of incoming noise to the house. Car Engine Sounds: Might bark when hearing specific engine sound, for example, pick-up truck. Will stop when the owner asks him to stop. Food Aggression: None toward humans or dogs Potty Trained: Yes Energy Level: Low to Medium Food Motivation: Medium, not picky on the food he eats
