Name: Harvard Age: 4 yr Weight: 80 lbs Altered Status: Yes Heartworm Status: Negative Bio: Harvard is a special boy looking for his perfect home. Harvard has some behavioral challenges that will need to continue to be worked with ref: resource guarding.  We do not recommend a home with children solely due to the resource guarding- and kids sometimes don't remember to stay away from a dog when they have a toy/food. Harvard LOVES puppies. Adores them. He is good with most large dogs as well. He thrives on structure and once he loves you, he loves you so much! Harvard is at risk of being euthanized. He has been at the shelter over a year and we are OUT of room! May 2, 2025, 3:59 pm

Story
Meet Cotton! To meet one of our adoptable pets or to start the adoption process, please access the adoption application on our website, www.crossroadsanimalrescue.org or download and email it to crossroadsanimalrescuesc@gmail.com. We will then approve you (sending in the application does not obligate you to adopt) and we can set up a time for you to meet one or more of our pets. You can then pay the adoption fee and officially adopt after meeting your new family member. Alternatively, you can do the adoption over the phone before meeting your new pet. The benefit to this is that we will hold the pet for you. However, the adoption fee is non-refundable if you changed your mind after adopting over the phone. Most of our pets are obtained from animal control and therefore we are not certain of their breed or breed mix. We list breed mixes that they most resemble or that their former owners said they were. However, we don't make any guarantees about breed - it is a best guess! Our adoption fees include the spay/neuter surgery, deworming, vet exam, and up to date vaccines. It also includes microchipping as well as heartworm testing or feline leukemia testing. We are happy to adopt out-of-state (and even out of the country!) but transportation for the adopted pet is the responsibility of the new pet owner. If you cannot adopt a pet at this time but would like to support our rescue, please click on the "Sponsor a Pet" button. Your donation will help feed the dogs, cats, small animals, and horses at CARE. Please email at crossroadsanimalrescuesc@gmail.com or call us at (864)972-9906 for more information. This phone number will reach Crossroads Animal Hospital, which is the home of CARE. During business hours, a receptionist will be able to speak with you regarding our adoptable pets. After business hours, the only way to contact CARE is via email. Our puppies and kittens are also eligible for 10% off the rest of the vaccines in their puppy/kitten vaccination series at Crossroads Animal Hospital. Most adult pets are spayed/neutered prior to adoption. Puppies and kittens may have the surgery before adoption or we may have new owners return later for the surgery. For more information about CARE and to see our adoption application, go to our website, www.crossroadsanimalrescue.org

Story
Meet Clyde Handsome Clyde (was Raindrop) is a labrador mix. We pulled Clyde off the euthanasia list from a high kill shelter. We gave him a new name to go with his new lease on life. Clyde is a black labrador mix. He is less than two old, but it seems as if his first years on earth have been terribly difficult. Clyde was just a forgotten puppy, neglected, maybe abused, and tossed out early on with no one to love him. Sadly, Clyde found himself on his last call on the kill list. His defeated expression really got to us and we had to give him a chance. He deserved better than life offered so far. He deserved a chance to live. Since arriving, we’ve seen his personality come out more every day. Clyde is an energetic and athletic young pup. He is very smart and curious. He will do well in an active home, with a fenced yard, and a family that likes to do things with Clyde in tow. Like all labradors he is a bouncy, energetic boy. He is a strong walker when he’s interested in something and his puppy energy pulls him on. A gentle leader might help as well as some gentle training. Clyde is very smart and will learn quickly. Clyde may be best in a home without younger kids, older kids may be fine, but we have seen Clyde be a little protective of his space and toys. Completely understandable when you go from having nothing, to having a safe place to sleep and some toys to call your own for the first time. Building Clyde’s confidence through training, consistency, love and protective safety will go far to helping Clyde settle in. He longs for a deep bond with a special someone or family. He loves being outside in the fresh air where he doesn’t feel confined and the noises of the shelter lesson. He enjoys watching the world go by. He shows no reaction to other dogs. Clyde has so much potential. He’s young and impressionable. For a person or family willing to invest time in Clyde, he has the potential to be the dog of a lifetime. He is longing to show someone just how great he is, but we can also see he is a little scared to do so. Life has not been kind to him. If you are that special someone/family looking to give a wonderful young dog a second chance, Clyde deserves all the TLC you can offer. If interested in welcoming Clyde to your heart and home, please submit an application online at: www.charlessmithgallhumanesociety.org. On our home page, please select "How to Adopt" to pull up our online application. Please email our shelter (smithgallhumanesociety@windstream.net) or call our shelter at 706-865-4135 and leave a message to make sure we received your application. All adopters must complete an approval process which involves a reference check with current/recent vet and a brief home visit if located in the immediate area. We do permit out-of-state adoptions. Adopters MUST come to the shelter to transport their new family member home. We do not ship, nor do we transport them to their new homes. Adoption policies and application procedures are detailed at the shelter website: http://charlessmithgallhumanesociety.org/ under tab All Adoptable Animals. Charles Smithgall Humane Society (CSHS) is a No kill shelter. Animals in our care remain safe with us until adopted. Resident animals are either owner relinquished rescued from area Animal Controls or high kill shelters. The facility usually operates at capacity with a list of animals waiting for space to open.

Story
Meet Rocky Rocky is a wonderful one-year-old lab mix. He is gorgeous and weighs 50 lbs. Sadly, he was surrendered when his mom went into hospice care. He used to stay on the bed with her and keep her company, but when it became too difficult for her, she asked if we could take Rocky in and find him a new loving home. Of course we’d take Rocky. Making sure that her beloved pet was cared for is the least we could do to give her peace of mind. Rocky misses his mom so much. He wasn’t ready to let her go and for the first week he wouldn’t leave his kennel. Dogs grieve terribly, and we do our best to help them through the process. After watching the other dogs and meeting our staff and volunteers, Rocky is coming out of his shell. He is still sad and unsure, but many of our dogs have welcomed him, especially Hazel. He loves Hazel! They stop and kiss each other as they walk by. Hazel has really helped Rocky cope with his new situation. Rocky loves attention. He’s very friendly. He loves everyone who walks him and plays with him. He adores walking on our forest trails and is so happy there. He accepts pets and full body scratchies. He walks easily on a leash, no pulling. He is completely house-trained. He has terrific manners. Rocky is dog and cat friendly. He’d do great in a home with another dog who can help him move past the sadness he’s felt for one so young. Rocky feels deeply and is sensitive to others. Helping him be a young pup who gets to play and be carefree will be important. We know there is a perfect home out there for this precious young dog. Might Rocky be the one you’re looking for? If interested in welcoming Rocky to your heart and home, please submit an application online at: www.charlessmithgallhumanesociety.org. Please use the downloadable application found on our homepage.
