Story
Rocky first appeared in my neighborhood during winter. He was thin & wary of people. I began leaving food out for him. I could see him watching until I was far away before eating. He finally allowed me to approach & pet him. I checked him for a microchip using a scanner & found he was chipped. I contacted the registered owner by phone, email & went to his house. He never responded or answered the door. When I brought Rocky to the LASPCA, they told me he had already been returned once by a previous owner & this man was his second. They said Rocky tested positive for heartworm but would not begin treatment until he was adopted. They hinted that due to his age (8), heartworm & history of being abandoned, he was at risk of being euthanized. I decided to pay the second-chance adoption fee, begin his heartworm treatment (which I’ve covered) & try to find him a safe & loving home myself. Rocky has been a calm & loving companion. He gets along well with my dog, cats, rabbits, turtle & kids.
