Story
Delilah is a 3- or 4-year-old Lab cross. She was found as a pregnant stray in Sandoval County, had her puppies the morning after she came into the shelter and raised 11 pups in foster care. The puppies are weaned now, and they and Delilah are moving toward their forever homes. Delilah likes taking naps, hanging out in the backyard, wrestling with her foster brother and chomping on chews. She gets along well with other dogs, as long as they're not near her food. She is food aggressive toward dogs -- but not humans -- so she'll need to be fed in a separate room from any other dogs. Delilah's docile and obedient with humans and often stays calm when the other dogs in her foster home are barking. She's good at taking her bathroom business outside, although she can't go for a whole work day without a potty break. She may chew things that don't belong to her if she's left alone or if she needs to go outside but no one is home to open the door. She's afraid of leashes, and so will need more work to get comfortable walking on one. She's very reserved when first meeting a new person, but will show affection once she warms up to someone. She was accepting of kids the one time she met some while in foster care. Unknown on cats. Please note that Delilah is an accomplished escape artist who will need to go out on a leash or have a secure yard with a metal or cinder block/rock fence at least four feet high, as she can jump 3-1/2 feet easily, open unlocked gates and chew through wooden fences. ##1609636##

Story
Queso is about 2, and about 35-40 pounds. His breed? Ummm ... we don't know, maybe a little Lab? He's a little nervous about meeting new people, but he warms up quickly and then is the most affectionate pup ever. He was part of a large, high-profile neglect case involving a local "trainer." After being confiscated by the City of Albuquerque, he arrived at their shelter sick and emaciated. PLR was asked to take him almost a month later, after he was feeling better. Queso's mission is now to soak up as much love as possible, and give just as much love back to his human. He does tend to jump when he wants attention, but he's working on learning to ask for lovin' with all four feet on the ground. He just wants to cuddle and be a lap dog. He's house-trained, crate-trained and leash-trained, and knows the command "sit." He rides in cars calmly and quietly. He gets along with every other dog we've introduced him to, and tends to take a submissive role. We haven't seen him with kids or cats. Queso's lookin' for love in a forever home. ##1649891##

Story
Hi, I am Meggie. That’s short for Nutmeg, the color of my ear spots. I am a girl and about two years old. MEGGIE JUMPS A SIX FOOT WALL. IF YOU DO NOT HAVE A SEVEN FOOT WALL OR AN ELECTRIC FENCE, SHE CANNOT GO TO A FAMILY WHO IS UNABLE TO KEEP HER SAFE! Foster mom says I need to say this first. I can jump a 6 foot block wall. I can climb chain link. I should be called Houdini. I need an electric fence or a really tall fence. REALLY tall. Okay, now to the important stuff. First love: I love humans and love to cuddle. Tummy rubs are my idea of a good way for you to spend your time. I love playing with playful dogs. Old dogs may not love to roughhouse but I play gentle with the seniors. I have a 13 year old lab friend and his mom says I taught him how to be a playful dog again. Remember, I am still a young dog. I play and chase with the other two year olds dos in the house. I would like a yard and need a secure 7 foot fence. I love kids and my Grandlittles love me. I hang out with them (ages 2 to 10 years old). I do have a big loud bark so I might scare timid kids but I would certainly not mean to. Sometimes when FM isn't looking, I do try to sneak up into their laps for a cuddle. I am very good in the house when mom is home. I love toys, love, love, LOVE toys. Balls, squeaky toys, split antler chews, rubber chew toys, stuffed toys. I have not met a toy I don’t love. Every morning, I grab a toy and run to my FM to show her. Her job is to tell me how clever I am, to admire the toy, and to play a few minutes of tug with me. I am pretty gentle with her and it is super fun. My Foster Mom recommends crating me when you leave, since I was a bit of a chewer when I was at first here . Now that I am comfortable and confident that FM always comes back, I am fine without being crated . If I am in the crate, I am perfectly comfortable. I could get a little worried when I am left alone and my crate is my safe place. I go to my box (crate) when I am asked but still like a little bribe or Kong chew when I am there. My favorite crate treat is a peanut butter stuffed Kong. Delish! And I stay nicely in my crate until my FM gets home and then we have a welcome home party. THIS MEANS IF YOU GO OFF TO WORK FOR LONG HOURS, I AM NOT THE RIGHT DOG FOR YOU. I CAN STAY IN MY CRATE 5 HOURS TOPS BUT THEN I NEED TO BE ABLE TO HANG WITH YOU, PLAY AND GET EXERCISE THE REST OF THE DAY. I have good manners obedience so I sit and wait for my dinner until I hear FM say okay. I know sit and lie down. I know drop it and I do and I know what leave it means as well. Plus I know the words inside and outside and where are the cookies? I lead FM straight to them. I am good about coming when I am inside. I know it means a cookie. Outside, my come is getting better in the back yard. When I get loose in the front yard, I forget all about come. I go crazy when I see other dogs. I know it is because I want to visit and play but I sound like a barking fool to everyone else. Dogs like me just fine but it makes Humans nervous to hear my big bark. Mom takes me for walks wearing a halti (head halter) and I behave myself but I still can do a happy dance if I see a dog that could maybe play with me. FM says that is rude and I need to mind my own business. Sigh. I do best going on play dates and I love all my doggie friends. At my FM’s house, I don’t have access to front windows or front fences so I stay calm and happy when I am in my yard and home. I REALLY do like birds and spend most of my outside time trying to watch them. I want go to an obedience class (FM is an obedience instructor and thinks ALL dogs should go) but I like being smart and I like making my humans happy. I pull on a leash like I am trying out for the iditarod unless I am wearing my Halti., so I need to learn to walk politely on leash and ignore all the other walkers. A class is a good place to work on ignoring distractions. I don’t jump on people but I really want to. Instead, I bounce in front of them. I don’t jump on my Grandlittles and when I am calm, they give me cookies so I know how to sit in front of them quietly. I get excited when someone new comes into the house but I calm down after a few minutes. We have lots of Human and doggie visitors here. Unfortunately, I haven’t gone many places out of the house to socialize with people and get used to strange things. I do need that practice of getting out to Lowes or Home Depot. It’s just my FM just doesn’t go many places right now. Boring details: I am spayed, UTD on Vaccinations, Heartworm negative, and housebroken. I weigh about 50 pounds and am a very good girl. Call my FM if you want to talk about me.

Story
Skip is a handsome lab/pit mix who would love to meet you! He has a great smile, which spreads across his cute face when you give him pets or throw his ball ?? He is 6 years old and weighs about 54lbs. Skip is affectionate and endearing. He loves to play! He is very strong on a leash, and will pull especially hard if there is something to chase (like a rabbit). Skip is very picky about canine friends, so a doggie companion would need to be a specific match - most likely a large dog who is calm, confident, and keeps to themselves. 𝗞𝗶𝗱𝘀: 12+ yrs, he likes to roughhouse 𝗗𝗼𝗴𝘀: highly selective𝗖𝗮𝘁𝘀: not a good fit

Jasper is a lab mix about 1 years old. He is neutered, up to date on vaccinations and microchipped. Jasper is currently in a foster home with small dogs and Sugar. He does good with both big and small dogs. Cats are unknown. He is good with children. Jasper has what is called an odontoma, which means he had a tumor in his mouth with extra teeth. He should be all set and won’t need anymore surgery. He will always have a perfect smile!

Approximate DOB 08/05/2020 Size - 50-60 lbs History- An awesome woman and her family took in a couple dogs and before they could get them fixed they had puppies. Luckily they reached out to us for help. We accepted her into our mother/pup program so now that the puppies are old enough to leave mom we will have mom spayed and she can remain with her owner and we will place the babies. Mom is a Red Heeler/Mastiff mix and dad is a Labrador Retriever mix. We have named all 8 babies after the cast from Lucifer as that is what we are currently watching - Lucifer (Shadow), Mazikeen, Ella, Kane, Amenadiel, Linda, Chloe, and Dan.   Temperament- Very, very high energy - loves kisses.  Loves learning and is eager to follow instruction. He might be amazing for someone wanting an agility dog, a running partner, a hiking partner, etc. He is overall well behaved but does get over excited meeting new people. He is also a tad tricky - So when meeting strangers he will act excited to meet them and he will be sweet and act as though they are friends however if they leave and then come over later when you are not home he does act like he does not know them and will act like Cujo. So just be aware he is a fierce guard dog when it comes to his home and family - if his family is not there. Currently he is left inside when I am not home as people can't be trusted to not put their hand in the fence to pet him and I am not sure if he will bite but suspect he might if they don't listen to the growls and barks to move back away from the fence (told to me by our neighbor who thought they were friends as she always gives him treats and pets him when we are standing at the fence talking- she truly loves him and thought they were bffs until one day I left him outside while I ran out for a bit and she thought she would give him treats and pets at the fence since he had nobody to hang out with since i had left and she said he was a different dog than she was used to loving on).  So that is his only major quirk which isn't all that bad if you have him inside loose and live alone you know you will be protected.    Energy Level- Very, very high energy! He runs and plays all day outside with Phoebe and then will continue to play fetch with me. This guy would do great with a very active family maybe that goes on 4 wheelers or something he can run with and hop on when he gets tired.  Dogs/Cats- He is super high energy and freaks some dogs out but then does calm down with time. He does do better with females than males.  He is good with all sizes of dogs but yea we do say females better than males as he is a very dominant dog. However, upon saying that he is scared of my male chihuahua but he grew up with Tug being the boss so that is just what he is used to. He did get adopted with the family that adopted his brother but the two started fighting badly so he was returned so a female would be best for him as he never fights with the girls here. He loves the girls and all the puppies.   Housetrained-  Perfectly house and crate trained. This boy has never marked or had an accident. However he does rip up his bedding if he does not get enough outside playtime. A tired dog is a good dog definitely fits him.    Shadow will make the perfect addition to an active family wanting a large active dog to take on adventures- hiking, 4 wheeling, hunting, etc.  He would do best in an adult only home due to his guardian instincts possibly from the mastiff in him. He gets way to excited with kids- for instance when my 2 year old granddaughter comes over he jumps on the couch to where she is so he can lick her to death but he doesn't realize how big he is so knocks her over she now goes in my room when he is being let in or out. Not because he is mean but because he will barrel right over on top of her to give her love- so she gives him treats in his crate. So he loves kids but just a little too much and I've tried to stop it but she prefers to not deal with him. My other granddaughter is 11 and puts her knee up and tells him to sit so he doesn't jump all over her and so he does good with her but she has been around him since he was a baby so even with his size and hyper behavior isn't scared of him and knows how to control him but he might scare kids so adults are best. So yea he is an amazing dog with his family and people who know him -  he never jumps on me, he does as he's told, and is just perfect for me but is hyper with strangers (though has calmed down a lot as he's gotten a little older) and can act like Cujo if his family isn't around.       Adoption fee $200 includes neuter, age appropriate vaccinations (4 for puppies), deworming, microchip, rabies, collar and leash, training information, and all the support you need.  Send us an e-mail to adopt@almosthomenm.org requesting an application to adopt this sweetie!! Story
Thor and Grizzly are brothers who were rescued locally from someone who couldn't care for them anymore. They must be adopted together, as they are very bonded. They are around a year old and look to be a mix of Black Labrador and Australian Cattle Dog/Blue Heeler. There is a large breed mixed in also...but that is a mystery that could only be solved with a DNA test! These boys couldn't be sweeter! They love giving kisses and are such goofs. They are both potty trained, good on a leash, and really smart pups. These two would be an excellent addition to any home! Not sure how they are with cats, but they could potentially be in a home with another dog with the right temperament. Thor and Griz are neutered and vaccinated. Thor and Grizzly are courtesy listings and do not belong to Me and My Shadow Dog Rescue. We are assisting another rescue group in getting these special sweeties adopted.
