Story
Trudy is a 10-month-old Lab mix weighing 35 pounds. She is a gentle, calm-natured pup, but she also enjoys playing. She loves other dogs, rides well in the car, and walks nicely on leash. She’s also crate trained, food motivated, and eager to learn. Trudy was found abandoned in a rural area of Eagle Pass, Texas, before making her way to Friends for Life Rescue. At first she can be a little shy, but once she feels safe, she warms up quickly and shows her sweet personality. She is well-behaved in the home and loves chew toys. This lovely girl enjoys being around people and pets and is ready to find a family who will give her the love and guidance she deserves. We can drive this pup to your area! Story
Ringo is currently at a rescue in Oklahoma. We are looking for a home in a state where people treat their animals well. He has to be prepaid and picked up directly from transport near one of the cities listed at bottom. If things don't work out for some reason, which rarely ever happens, he will go back to Oklahoma on our next transport until a new home is found. -Ringo is a male, possibly Lab/Terrier mix and has just turned a year old (January 5). -He weighs around 45 pounds on January 5th -Sweet natured and loves to be loved as you can see from his video -Typical puppy, but on the lower energy side of things. Not rambunctious. -Does well with other dogs. Has been kenneled with another dog. No aggression of any kind. -Since he's young, we don't think he would have a problem with kids -Needs work on walking on a leash -Is not housebroken -Video of Ringo from January 5: https://youtube.com/shorts/z5LyEuHQsUs Ringo is neutered, vaccinated (DHLPPx3, Bordetella and Rabies), has been dewormed and is on monthly flea/tick/HW prevention. Health certificate and exam will be performed less than 10 days prior to transport. Adoption fee is $700, this is including all vetting above and transport cost. Story
This sweet boy is Freddie he is very well behaved, just needs to gain confidence. He will do best in a home that has another happy dog to be friends with. He's also great with cats! He doesn't have any human kids at his foster home. Freddie’s mother was a stray and gave birth to her litter in a field. The entire family ended up at the local kill shelter, fortunately Freddie was saved from euthanasia and is currently living in a foster home with other dogs and cats too. He is house-trained , he plays wonderful with the other dogs. Will you give him a chance today? He's young and full of opportunity and he's eager to please. We can drive this pup to your area! Story
"Hi I'm Rusty, I'm a great boy but nobody wants me because of my ear and eye injury..." Rusty is a sweet, laid-back boy who loves quiet time and snuggles but lights up for walks and treats. He's living in a foster home with kids, cats, and another dog and he loves everyone. He's only about 40 lbs so he's actually not very big. He's also only two or three years old according to the vet, although his tattered ear and eye give him a more "mature" look. But he's a very healthy boy! He’s a quick learner when food is involved and pays close attention on his walks, especially if there are rewards. Rusty has a calm, easygoing nature that makes him a great fit for almost any family. He does wonderfully with children, dogs, and cats. After he and his friend Raven (also available) were abandoned and injured in a neighborhood, he’s eager for a second chance. Rusty’s gentle spirit and affectionate heart make him a wonderful companion ready to bring love and comfort to his new home. We can drive this pup to your area! If you like this cutie please send us an inquiry here and we'll give you a call and video chat with the pup! Story
ALPHIE - This action packed, incredibly brilliant black lab mix is ready and waiting for someone to spend the rest of his life with! When we say brilliant we really mean it. Alphie is wildly smart and eager to please. Alphie is an exuberant, happy boy who fills up every space he enters with fun-loving, zesty energy. He’s quick on his feet and super agile. This boy wants to go, go, go! He can’t get enough of fetch games and truly thrives being outside in the elements. Rain, shine or snow, Alphie is the best version of himself when his exercise and enrichment needs are met. The lucky household who comes to adopt or foster Alphie will instantly be drawn into his irresistible play bubble day after day! While Alphie is an athletic dog, he does have an excellent chill button. After a walk or romp in the yard, Alphie will totally take advantage of the opportunity to relax. You will almost always find him laying at someone’s feet or right by their chair. Alphie may even pop his two front feet on your lap for some extra pets! This affectionate boy is always seeking connection and wants to be near! He also wants to be your ONLY dog - he'll make it worth your while. 👉 Adoption fee INCLUDES: all vetting to age (including deworming, flea & tick etc), spay/neuter and microchip (if the dog is under 6 months, alter and chip will occur after they're 6 months, covered in full at our clinic or reimbursed partially at a vet of your choosing). If the dog is older than 6 months and not yet altered, we will schedule ASAP (normally within 30 days) at our clinic . We also provide as an incentive a $60 rebate for completion of positive-based training classes. Adoption also includes lifetime support of the rescue. (** ALPHIE comes with a partially sponsored adoption fee from someone who felt drawn to him but wasn't able to adopt, to help him find his perfect home. **) 💜 Please click PURPLE BUTTON above to apply or go to www.secondhanddogrescue.com/apply ! ✍ APPLICATION PROCESSING: We do most application processing virtually and dog meets will be individually by appointment with ONLY APPROVED APPLICANTS. We are not a shelter and are completely volunteer foster-based, so there is no central place to come see all of the dogs available. 📌 IMPORTANT NOTES: ** Housetraining with rescues is sometimes a work in progress and even if a dog is 100% in a foster's home, it should be expected there will be an adjustment period as a dog adapts to a new environment. This is even more true if the dog has not by chance had their altering appointment at time of adoption. ** Also, we highly recommend some form of 2-week shutdown and decompression for dogs going to a new home for best results. --> Lastly, breed guesses in rescue are just that (GUESSES!!) 99.9% of the time. We do not do DNA testing and our breed guesses are based on appearance and sometimes other traits, but we know the dog breed guessing game is a fool's errand even for those with LOTS of experience. 🗺ADOPTION AREA: Several hour radius of Rochester, NY (Canada within 3hrs IS allowed), except the young puppies need to be old enough to have gotten their rabies vaccination in order to cross the border- usually around 16 weeks).
