See me in action during the Great Puppy Play off https://www.facebook.com/HighlandHumaneSociety/videos/874551722124163🐧 Skipper – Madagascar Penguin Puppy 🐧He’s a little shy at first, especially in new situations, but he warms up quickly and becomes social, friendly, and very affectionate once he feels safe. He’s always so happy to see people, even if he needs a moment to build confidence.Personality-wise, Skipper lives right between couch potato and wild child. He enjoys playful puppy moments, but he’s just as happy snuggling once he’s comfortable. He loves being held like a baby (and may whine if you stop 😆) and is especially affectionate with people he trusts. This curious fellow loves to check out new rooms and sniff everything, always eager to explore at his own pace. He’s food motivated (he loves any food, with Bacon Strips being a top-tier favorite 🥓) and already knows how to sit, making him a great candidate for continued training.Skipper does well with kids who let him come to them and would thrive in a home that offers patience, positive reinforcement, snacks, and toys. With training and confidence-building, he’s going to grow into a wonderful, loving dog with a sweet, loyal personality.🐧 Madagascar Penguin Puppies 🐧Kowalski, Private, Rico & Skipper are ready for their next big adventure—wherever life takes you! These four adorable boys are sweet, social, and full of puppy charm. A couple have a cute little underbite, and all have scruffy coats (not expected to be long-haired).We were told they may be a Labrador Retriever/Husky mix, though genetics like to keep us guessing. Kowalski’s striking black-and-tan coloring even gives off Rottweiler/Shepherd/Doberman vibes—so who really knows? 😄📏 13 weeks old | ~15 lbs each📈 Estimated adult size: 50+ lbsHe's ready to go home on Saturday, February 14th. 🩺 Medical & Care Info:✔️ Vaccinated✔️ Flea & tick treated✔️ On heartworm prevention✔️ Microchipped & neutered before adoption💲 Adoption fee: $300Ready to add a little penguin energy to your life? He’s the least brave of his litter, but make no mistake: this boy is all love. He’s truly a lover, not a fighter, and prefers comfort, kindness, and cuddles over chaos. He’s food motivated and his all-time favorite treat is Bacon Strips 🥓. Kowalski already knows how to sit, making him a great candidate for continued training with positive reinforcement and snacks (lots of snacks). Story
🌈 Meet Rainbow Brite! 🌈Rainbow Brite is a 1½-year-old, 24-lb, small-to-medium-sized momma dog who raised her eight puppies like a champ—and now it’s her turn to be spoiled. She is fully grown (though she may gain a pound or two now that mom life is over) and is believed to be a mini Labradoodle mix, meaning regular grooming will be needed. ✂️🐩She rides great in the car, walks on a leash (with a fun little zig-zag style 😄), and is a good alert barker when someone’s at the door. Rainbow Brite does well with cats inside the home, though she may bark at cats she sees outdoors. 🐱Rainbow Brite is house trained and can comfortably hold it 8–10 hours. One thing to note: she isn’t fully used to pottying while on a leash, so a fenced yard would make things easier, or adopters should be prepared to help her learn that leash pottying is okay. She’s a gentle, sensitive, velcro-style pup who loves being close to her person and excels in a calmer home. She may take a little time to warm up—especially to men—but with patience and kind guidance, her confidence continues to grow. She does well with other dogs of all sizes when they are polite and not overly pushy, and she’s happy relaxing in a quiet room during busy gatherings.🩺 Rainbow Brite is:✔️ Vaccinated✔️ Heartworm & Lyme negative✔️ Flea & tick treated✔️ On heartworm prevention✔️ Microchipped✔️ Will be spayed prior to adoption💲 Adoption fee: $250If you’re looking for a loyal, affectionate companion who just wants to be near her person and enjoy a peaceful life filled with cuddles and love, Rainbow Brite may be your perfect match. 🌈🐾You can apply on our website www.highlandhumanesociety.org OR stop into the shelter 12- 5 pm Monday through Friday or 11 am to 3 pm on Saturday to meet who is available at that time. He’s the kind of puppy who reaches out to you—literally—and would likely be super easy to teach “shake.”He’s very vocal and enjoys “talking” to his people, making him endlessly entertaining and full of personality. Rico is food motivated, absolutely loves treats, and is eager to engage—especially when snacks are involved.Once he feels comfortable, Rico is friendly, affectionate, and social. He loves kids and genuinely wants to be their friend, making him a great match for a family with respectful, puppy-savvy children. Story
RCHS does not conduct DNA tests on dogs who enter our facility therefore we are unable to guarantee breed or breed mix. Information provided by shelter staff, volunteers, and veterinarians is used to give a best estimate as to a dog’s breed make up. We do our best to inform adopters about the potential breeds for each dog.We are a dog only facility so we do not know how most of our dogs will be with cats. Even if a dog is surrendered to us and said to be good with cats there is no way to be sure the dog will be good with your cats. We do have a 7 day foster-to-adopt program so that you can see how the dog interacts with your cats before adoption.
