LAB MIX AVAILABLE FOR ADOPTION Meet handsome Lab mix Ozzy, who found himself in need of a new home when his owner passed away. He didn’t come with any background information, so his exact age is unknown, but he’s around 2.5 years old. Ozzy is a playful guy and is currently being fostered with two other dogs. He has also lived with a cat, although he would also be fine as an only pet. He’s energetic and can play fetch for hours, so a home with a fenced yard would be ideal. Being a Lab mix, he might even like a kiddie pool to cool off in on hot summer days. Ozzy is good on leash and greets other pooches nicely and is also great in the car. He can be left loose in the house without issue while his people are at work. Ozzy loves attention and being close to his people, so be prepared for an affectionate companion. He has lived with children aged 12+ and will make an awesome pet for an active family, couple or single. Ozzy was examined by our vet and got a clean bill of health. He received his vaccinations and was recently neutered and microchipped, which is all included in his $675 adoption fee. If you’re interested in adopting Ozzy, please complete the adoption questionnaire on our website at www.kikodogrescue.ca. We are active in the Greater Montreal and Eastern Ontario areas and are also open to applicants from elsewhere willing to drive to us.

Story
Hello, I’m Sebastian 🐾 A 3-year-old Labrador–Doberman mix, about 27 kilos of love, elegance, and joy. I’ve got the long, lean body of a Doberman and the warm, food-loving heart of a Labrador — truly the best of both worlds. My journey hasn’t always been easy. I spent too long in a city shelter and eventually found myself on the euthanasia list. Just in time, Dream Tails stepped in and gave me a second chance, bringing me to their training center — and now I’m ready for the next chapter of my life. I get along wonderfully with other dogs and communicate beautifully with them, showing my feelings clearly and setting boundaries in a calm, respectful way. I walk nicely on leash and don’t pull, making our walks something we can both enjoy. I’m often told I’m very handsome — but what truly sets me apart is my heart. I’m overflowing with love, and every bit of attention makes my heart feel like it might burst. I can’t wait to experience the comfort of a warm home and to finally feel safe with my forever family. Because I haven’t lived in a home before, I might show a little puppy mischief at first as I adjust. With patience, guidance, and understanding, I’ll settle in and thrive — I promise my love will make it all worth it. All I’m dreaming of is a family who will give me time, kindness, and cuddles… especially cozy moments on the sofa with my mommy and daddy. 🫶🏻 Could you be my forever family?

Story
My name is Blackie, and I’m a 4-year-old female Labrador mix weighing around 22kg — a healthy, comfortable medium-large size. I may have a black coat that stands out, but what people notice first about me isn’t just my appearance… it’s my gentle eyes and the soft, warm energy I give off. I tend to quietly melt into people’s hearts without even trying. 💛 I’ve always been the kind of dog who prefers to live close to people. I feel happiest when I can breathe, move, and simply exist beside someone I trust. In structured kennel environments, I found it difficult because I had to spend a lot of time alone and follow strict routines without much human connection. During that time, I showed signs of loneliness — because what I wanted most was simply to be near people. Since moving into a foster home, I’ve changed a lot. I’ve become much more stable, more relaxed, and much happier. I love being close to my caregiver, following them around the house, and resting nearby. My expression has softened, and I’ve started to show my affectionate side more and more. I truly enjoy “being together” — that’s where I feel safest and happiest. I may have experienced neglect and hardship in the past. No one knows all the details of my earlier life, but I carry quiet traces of it with me. Even so, I never gave up on people. I didn’t become cold or distant. Instead, I slowly learned that human kindness can feel warm and safe. And now, I’m learning how to love again. I’m not looking for someone who will only feed me or take me out. I’m looking for a family — someone who will share time with me, talk to me, look into my eyes, and make everyday moments feel meaningful. I feel happiest in those small, ordinary moments. There is one important thing I still need help with: being alone. Because I love people so much, I may struggle a little when I’m left by myself for long periods. I’m not severely anxious, but I do form strong bonds, and I need gentle practice learning that being alone is safe too. If I’m introduced gradually to alone time — starting with short periods and slowly increasing — I can learn to feel more secure and confident. What helps me most is consistency and reassurance, not pressure. I may also still be learning parts of home life — walking routines, house rules, household sounds, and daily rhythms. But I am very motivated by human connection. When I feel loved and encouraged, I naturally try to understand and adapt. At first, I may want to stay very close to you as I adjust to a new environment. Instead of forcing independence too quickly, I need patience and emotional safety while I build trust. A calm routine, regular walks, and gentle companionship will help me feel grounded. I’m not just a dog who needs care. I’m a dog who wants to belong. Somewhere along my journey, I learned what it feels like to be loved — and now I want to hold onto that feeling forever. I want a home where I can finally relax, where I don’t have to wonder if I’ll be left behind again. I may have started my life with loneliness, but I’m hoping my future will be filled with presence, warmth, and love. I’m Blackie, and I’m waiting for the family who will let me stay close… not just for a while, but forever. 🐾

Story
Meet Chester — your tall, gentle adventure buddy! This handsome boy is Chester. With his long legs, shiny brown coat, and soulful eyes, he is truly a stunning dog. Chester is estimated to be around 2 years old and has already shown us what a resilient and sweet soul he is. He was found wandering in the forest and had been spotted there for over a month during freezing winter weather. When he finally arrived into foster care with our rescue, he was very thin, with frozen paws and torn, bleeding paw pads on all four feet. Despite everything he had been through, Chester remained gentle and trusting. His tall, lanky “teenager” body is now slowly filling out, and he’s becoming healthier and stronger every day. He has beautiful shiny brown fur, great teeth, and the sweetest personality to match. We searched everywhere to find his family, but sadly no one came forward. Chester has since been fully vetted, vaccinated, microchipped, sterilized, and treated for fleas and ticks, so he is ready to start his brand-new life with a loving family. His favourite snacks are apples and pumpkin! Chester's personality: • Has enjoyed playing with other dogs in appropriate settings. • Never aggressive and very gentle. • Not a big barker. • Curious about cats, but respectful. • Calm and easygoing in the home. • Crate trained. • Affectionate and eager to bond with his people. Important things to know: • Chester would do best in a home without young children. • He has recently developed leash reactivity towards other dogs and has become wary of strangers and children while out on walks. • Because of this, Chester should currently be walked on his own while these behaviours are being worked on through positive reinforcement and training. • He will need an adopter who is patient, understanding, and committed to continuing his training and helping him build confidence. • As with many rescue dogs, it may take time for his full personality to shine as he settles into a new home. Chester is the kind of dog who quietly steals your heart. He’s tall, graceful, affectionate, and ready to leave his past behind for a warm home, a soft bed, and people who will never abandon him again. If you’re looking for a loyal companion with a big heart and long legs to match, Chester might just be your perfect match. Chester is vaccinated, microchipped, has received flea, tick and heartworm prevention, is sterilized, and will come with his medical booklet. Sometimes a dog takes a little more time to open up. You may see them showing more and more of their personality over the course of the first few days, weeks, or even months. We don't know all that they've been through before they were rescued, but they are so forgiving and full of love, and it's worth every tough moment in the end. Developing a trusting relationship with your rescue dog is one of the most important things. Stability, patience, positive reinforcement, and love are the keys to helping them thrive.

Story
Sasha is a beautiful brindle mixed Dominican dog, who turned 1 year old at the beginning of June. She is really good with other dogs, and was found with her brother who is currently being fostered with her. She can be stubborn and when she doesn’t want to do something try to get away or grab you with her arms like a human to try and stop you. With people, she can be nervous at first then warms up fast. She adores children and rolls over on her back for pets when she sees them. She likes to be in her crate, as she feels safe there. She can play or be independent, and she loves her dog siblings. She is not very leash trained so that would need to be worked on. Sasha can be a dainty little princess and she loves to cuddle. She is food protective with other dogs, will growl if eating in her cage and a dog passes. She has never met a cat. Sasha is very smart and will need a more experienced adopter who will have the patience and knowledge of how to best train her as she will test you. She can be vocal when she plays, and is overall a sassy lady. She weighs about 25-30 pounds and can be protective and will bark to alert. She is fully vaccinated, sterilised, dewormed and microchipped. Sometimes a dog takes a little more time to open up, you may see them showing more and more of their personality over the course of the first few days, weeks or even months! We don’t know all that they’ve been through before they were rescued, but they are so forgiving and full of love and it’s worth every tough moment in the end. Developing a trusting relationship with your rescue dog is the most important thing. Stability, patience, positive reinforcement and love are the most important things!
