Story
ADOPTION FEE WAIVED! ALSO AVAILABLE TO FOSTER. No doubt you’ve seen those stories about dogs waiting 200, 300 or even 500 days before being adopted. Gilley (short for Gillian) has been at Save the Strays for more than 1,825 days – an incredibly long time to wait for that special someone to come and take her home. Why is she still here?   At 7 years young, Gilley still has a lot of stamina. She’s just crazy for toys and can destroy most of them within 5 minutes. But she has slowed down a bit over the past year and is quite happy to just hang out, get a belly rub and take a nap. She’s really quite sweet and very loyal.    Because Gilley has been here so long, she may need a little time to adjust to a new home and owner. She’s lived in a rural environment with few visitors, so she should be introduced to new sights, sounds and people in small doses. Gilley’s also initially a little uncertain around other dogs, especially if they’re also nervous or too forward. She might do best in a quieter home where she’s the only dog or in a home with only one other laid-back dog of similar size because she will play with other dogs once she’s comfortable with them.     At Save the Strays, we consider the first two weeks (longer, if needed) following adoption to be a trial period and will take Gilley back if the adoption doesn’t work out. We are also waiving Gilley’s adoption fee because we really, really, really want to see her get the home she deserves.    Not quite ready to give a dog a forever home? Gilley is also available to foster if you live within 75 miles of our location. If you have questions or want to apply to adopt or foster Gilley, email us at info@savethestrays.org.        Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.April 25, 2024, 10:27 am

ADOPTION FEE WAIVED! ALSO AVAILABLE TO FOSTER. Peri has a lot going for her. At 3 years old, she has enough energy to be a great playmate or hiking companion but is well past the puppy stage and will hang out on the couch with you if you’re having a lazy day. She’s house trained, crate trained and getting better at leash walking. She's good with adults and children, men and women, although she may be a little shy or skittish until she gets to know you. Peri is also good with other dogs. She's spayed, up to date on vaccines and microchipped. Peri has been here a while, and we really want to get her a good home, so we are waiving her adoption fee. If you can give Peri the great forever home she deserves, email info@savethestrays.org for our application. She's also available to foster, if you're not ready to give a dog a forever home and live within 75 miles of our location. Story
I am relocating out of the country so I have to rehome my dog. I got Sasha in January 2023 as a private rehome. She is approximately 5.5 years old according to vet records. Her markings make her look older. She would do best as an only dog. She does not like other dogs and why is unknown. She showed up at the home of the family I adopted her from as a 9 month old stray. She loves people, adults and children, and loves to be with her people in whatever room they are in. She has a lot of energy and is eager to please. Because she is eager to please, she is very trainable and very adaptable. She is very well crate-trained. She goes in her crate at will and also if I say, "Sasha, go house." If I leave her at home alone, I will crate her. She came with the crate she is used to and I will make sure she retains her crate when she is adopted.

Story
Sasha was acquired as a private rehome from a family who was relocating out of the country. Sasha showed up on their doorstep she was 9 months old. Unfortunately, I myself am relocating out of the country. Sasha's markings make her look like a senior dog, but vet records (which are available) put her age at approximately 5.5 years. She is spayed, microchipped and up to date on all vaccinations. Sasha needs to be an only dog as she does not like other dogs. She is, however, a very loving dog and she is a velcro dog, loving to be in whatever room her people, adults and children, are in. She is housetrained and crate trained. You say, "Sasha, go house," and she will go into her crate. She would be great for a retired person or someone who is home a lot, although she can stay home alone if crated.

Story
Bobby is an 8 month old male Lab/Shephard/collie mix and is as sweet as can be. He loves people and is friendly to new faces and loves to play. He is even tempered, gentle, and curious. Bobby is crate trained and does not bark. He is also house broken and hasn’t had any accidents inside. Bobby is a great listener and is really receptive to training and is still learning. Bobby is up to date with his shots but not yet neutered at this point in time. His cage, toys, bowls, collar, and leash are all included. Unfortunately my landlord will not allow me to keep Bobby and my career requires me to be on call 24/7 so I usually have to leave the house sporadically on my days off which prevents me from spending time with Bobby. He might be a little shy at first but quickly opens up!

Story
Dolly is a sweet girl but unfortunately does not see eye to eye with her current owner. She is great with kids, dogs of all ages and even cats. At 4 years old Dolly is still super playful but also likes her lounge and relaxation time. She currently lives on acreage and was being used as a working dog to guard chickens, however, her current owner thinks she would be best suited as a live in house dog or perfect as an apartment dog. Dolly was taken in at 1 year old and has lived with other dogs since and loves to play. She has bit her owner in the past when getting scared of shouting and sudden movements but I sincerely think that is a trainable issue. I also think with the right gentle owner she would make a great addition to anyone's family. Dolly is up to date on all vaccinations and will come with her current flea, tick, and heartworm preventative medicine. Her male owner is the only person she has ever bit and has always been very gentle with kids and her female owner.
